"She was well aware of the obstruction ahead and chose her lane with this in full view, obviously with the intention of smoking me and getting in front of all the other traffic like a smartass."
But she did....
Look at the end of the day, she probably wasn't racing, just floored it off the lights. You felt the need to prove your manhood, and that you are quicker than a luxo-barge. So you floor it too. Me thinks YOU were racing.
I agree with some of the earlier comments, that if a 4.4 X5 goes flat out, you wait then floor it, you are toast matey although you do have the quicker car.
Out of interest, were you undertaking her?

skittles,
Nothing like stating the obvious mate eh?
Like another poster above said, we were both "racing" if you want to split hairs.
and your comment
I assume you are getting at lane priority, i.e. lane 1, 2 and 3 etc.
This only applies to a motorway or dual. This has no relevance on a one way street with 2 lanes.
You don't exactly get cars parked up every hundred yards in the fast lane on a m/way do you?

Not cool..
1) Scoobs should not lose to X5 from the lights!
2) IF you fall behind from the lights you need to sit back and wait for a bend or bout!
3) Don't moan about racing, nobody forced you to chase her, could of just kicked back!

talizman- we all know which is the faster car- next time either blitz them or wait for a safe opportunity and then toast them. I've been in exactly the same situation but as I was in a company car so I let the to55er hit me and the outcome was 100% in my favour.

Racing is one thing, but to be so intent on getting ahead that you'd risk an accident is something quite different. As is being so sure you are faster than everything else on the road, you feel you don't need to look to see if anything is alongside you before you encroach on another lane.
She may have got ahead, but by causing another person to brake hard and swerve, by the sound of it. Not a very impressive thing for anyone to do IMO.

"Nothing like stating the obvious mate eh?"
You are missing the point. I am saying she was probably just flooring it off the lights, regardless of what car was next to her, and was not thinking "I'm going to burn that car off the line".
There is a difference. From her POV, she gets some guy burning it up the inside, totally unexpectedly, and probably well over the limit.
If you were actually BOTH racing, she would be well aware of you.
Don't mean to be a pain in the a$$, but just pointing it out from the other person's POV.

As far as I can see, the other persons point of view was as follows.....
I am sitting at a red traffic light all on my lonesome.
The lane to my side is clear.
Across the junction, this particular lane is obstructed by a double parked car.
The X5 drives up behind me and instead of pulling in behind me like every other ****, she takes the postion to my side, seeing full well that she had nowhere to go.
The lights change and she blasts off, simultaniously pulling into my lane causing the aforementioned near-miss.
Bear in mind that this whole thing from take-off to near-miss took all of say 3-4 seconds.....![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
I fail to see what your point is....
She was well aware of her intentions and I of mine.
Call it racing if you want.
I call it blocking a smartass with a flash motor.

One of the things I quickly learnt when I got my scoob was reading the road ahead and looking for hazards as the car was MUCH quicker than anything I had driven previously.
Not wishing to sound like the old defensive driving instructors but if you were looking ahead, you would have spotted the hazard and made allowances for the other drivers stupidity.
I'm now off to put my flame suit on.

Having to make allowances for other drivers' stupidity is something that really shouldn't be necessary, but so often is these days. You need to treat everyone else on the road as a total prat.
She should have looked ahead and seen the hazard (she did), but she should also have weighed her chances of blowing off the car next to her if she was going to pull that manouevre, and she got that bit wrong.
I've had the same thing, with lux-expresses trying to blow me off. Had a guy in a CL600 try it on the other week - we were side by side at the lights, his lane disappeared after 50 metres. I knew he was going to go for it by the aggressive way he pulled up to the stop line, so I gave it some. He was about half a length behind and had to drop in behind me, and then flashed me for it. He was trying it on and lost, big deal, live with it. Should have know what he was getting into.

CL600 guy needs to get a faster car instead of flashing his lights. Unless of course he was flashing to say "I was beaten fair and square, next time it's an AMG for me"-I doubt it somehow. I say either stick it to em good and proper or just let them get on with it. I must be getting old as generally I let them waste their petrol and save the heroics for empty roads I can enjoy myself on.

Your both to blame. You for not realising a wench in an X5 can be dangerous and her for being such a dumb 'not looking' cow.
If you crashed you both would have been to blame, you for trying to catch and take her, leaving her unaware of your whereabouts or panicked into making a rash decision. Her's for starting off in a lane with an obstruction and just driving at you like a mad woman!!
You however receive extra points for the use of '****' in an earlier post. Nice touch!

I nearly had a head on with a BMW driver on Sunday night.Having just left my parents house after a slap up Sunday roast on the way home to watch top gear.Approaching a T-junction when a 7 series comes racing around the corner on my side of the road.Luckily i was probably only doing approx 20mph at the time but still had to hit the brakes hard to the point of ABS.The disbalief soon turned to anger so i flashed the guy and hit the horn. After swerving past me he hit the brakes,i went into reverse and pillued along side at wich point he asked what my ******* problem was,my reply you cutting the corner causing me to brake so as not to hit you,and his reply "you should just keep out my way".Can't believe the atitude of some drivers.Unfutunatly for me i seem to come across quite a few bad BMW drivers and when i'm out on the bike it seems to be VOLVO drivers. This is just another one of those evryday incidents and i don't want to tar drivers with the same brush. As far as i'm concerned we all have a responsibility to drive with care.
