The early, pre WRC rule GroupA Impreza was a top mount configuration, as is the current STi9 Spec C groupN car used in the Production car WRC championship as driven by Toshi Arai and Martin Rowe etc.
Temp into the intercooler depends on turbo used, boost level, gear, rpm, atmosperic presure, relative humidity and inlet temp, i have seen over 170 degrees C on some of my turbo cars. I dont log the inlet temp on my current Impreza, just the outlet temp of the air the engine uses to produce power.
The outer temp of the IC or the rate of airflow over the IC isnt the important thing to measure, what matters is the resultant charge air temp. Of course if you make the IC eficiency increase, the charge air temp will fall, but if you said to me the IC outer temp was 55 degrees and airflow rate was 1000 grammes/second i would say, so what, whats the charge temp reading?

Dan, the scoop looks wider but it looks no taller than std so as you get faster more air will flow over the top of it. This is what John was saying "from 120-150mph the temps don't change" because there isn't more air going throught the i/c, its going over it.
Why do you think the STi8 has such a high scoop now???

if it isnt sealed around the IC on its exit (the OEM one has a rubber seal), it will actually make things worse. Not saying it isnt, because i cant see from the pictures.
In fact, looking at this picture i would say that scoop doesnt seal on the top of the intercooler. oops!

well dont you think you should. For the amount of time you have been spending on here telling us how airflow matters, you could have had your car using that airflow properly. Doh!

I love the look of carbon fibre and I personally like the look on your car.
The only things I'd add is - the point of carbon fibre is to save weight ?? By having a triple coat and admittedly rigid bonnet - you've negated the advantage....and the bonnet just becomes an expensive cosmetic piece for the car.
...oh and doesnt carbon fibre fracture over time ? while its strong in some ways isn't it a double edged sword with CF - it can crack if stressed in the wrong way..???

no, but mine has sound deadening cloth, like all other imprezas.
You need heat shielding cloth for a composite bonnet, it has shiny alluminum coating on it to help prevent heat damage. My alloy bonnet wont warp with heat, your carbon one will.

IMHO, that looks awful.
If you painted it, to actually match the car - then it would look much better. The carbon look just looks tacky if you ask me. Especially when it has a wonky grain...
Fair enough, if you want to build an entire car from it - for reasons of good weight loss - and you'd seriously notice the difference from it, then fine. Carry on. But, if you just think it looks 'cool' (though as has been mentioned, tends to look more like a frontal impact fix that hasn't been painted yet) and justify it by saying "it weighs much less than a standard one" then something is wrong...
If it is triple thickness, blardy blar, and therefore weighs about the same as an alloy STi one - then why not get an alloy STi one? At least it would be less prone to heat damage from that hot engine. Either way, it would look much better if it matched the car's colour.
If it is lighter than a standard bonnet, I reckon I could probably find the same weight difference by emptying my bladder and bowels prior to driving - so is it really worth it?
Just MHO anyway - sorry if it sounds a bit harsh...

Like the bonnet a lot , although agree with some that it suits the darker cars better when unpainted.
As for the larger depth scoop - not too keen, BUT.... looks good with the original classic scoop on!
Quick question though – does this modification affect insurance? or has nobody actually asked!

Nice on black...but I would paint it if I have a white car. But it might be a little better looking on a wagon for some reason. You will need hood pins. Here's what I used to have:
I no longer have it since I went aluminum for my hood replacement after someone backed into me. I also have plans of mounting light pods, so an aluminum hood will be more supportive than flex down. The weight difference is a tad noticeable, but by not much.
