31 MY96 with 5yNCD. Was with Direct line and they wanted £680 on renewal. I tried the "quote me happy mob" and they were good at £670. L/V quoted me £705, so not really much to choose between them. I then got some new MY01 17" wheels fitted just before renwal date and DL/ NU both went up to about £900!!
L/V stayed the same!!!Woo Hoo!! Seems like if your over 30 with any mods to car L/V is the place to go!!

Default However....

Just be careful with L & V if you change from an Impreza to any other model (ie. boring normal ford pish or something )

ie. 34 years old Full no claims etc = £670 for my impreza (my99 with mods @ 250bhp ish)

Then ....

Ford Focus 1.8zetec

Eh.... that will be £420 pounds sir

Goodbye and no thanks

Talking

"Always helps when you cut the middle men out and deal directly with an underwritter I guess"

Not really.

That is true if you are a standard risk and have a standard car. I.e. are not excluded by all the exclusions listed by LV in their website for example. Or even more so - you get a quick quote and then call them - it will typically be more expensive as they will have more data to underwrite against.

Using a middle man - i.e. a broker (and you need to find a good one!) is the best route if you are a non-standard risk - i.e. modifications, convictions, age, whatever. You will also find that different brokers have different areas of specialism.

The reason why it can be cheaper, or more affordable with a broker - even tho his commission is included in your price - is that he will negotiate your price directly with the underwriter and agree a deal. Brokers are far better at this than teleagent computer systems!!
