The Type R is faster than a P1 (not that all this matters a ****)
Yes, I am planning on blowing mine up in the near future, it's easily done in a sub 5 second car

seriously dont go by the prodrive figures, they seem to be nearly 1 second out in some cases compared to the 'real' world they must use professional drivers etc etc look at my post and youll see. Put it this way if you believe their figures then come up against another scoob that CAN do 12.2 0-100 then you will be embarrased in an sti8 ppp

A lot of people confuse a P1 as being the same car as a Type R.
I've never driven a P1 so I couldn't tell you, but I have spoken to a couple of people who have driven both. They say P1's are quite different to a Type R, correct me if I'm wrong.
They are all excellent cars, it's horses for courses.
Talizman, like I said before, enjoy your new car M8.

Here we go again....
Type R - lighter and gearing different therefore better figures - but unless you have it "uk geared" it maxs at around 118mph i think.
Plus with the STI 9 you get aircon as standard - excellent crash protection - better build quality etc etc

Sounds like you had a great day choosing talizman and I for one found your report of all three very interesting.
While never having the pleasure of driving a P1, I think you will be very happy with a Sti8 - I know I am with mine.
The trader / dealer sounds top as well, quite happy to let you drive all three. Couldnt you have wangled a quick go in the lotus as well though ?

OK, so now what if you take a P1 and throw on a full stainless decatted exhaust system with an SS backbox? Does that get it into STi8 territory for pulling power?
Still prefer the look of the classic P1 face over the bugeye; and think the bonnet scoop on the STi8 looks a little OTT!

It's only the very very early RA's that have stupidly short gearing, as these were homologated for rallying.
Plus with the STI 9 you get aircon as standard - excellent crash protection

I've just sold my P1 due to my brother taking me for a test drive in his RA V Ltd. My P1 had a full decat and green air filter, it wasn't a slow car. Bought a version 6 RA Ltd and its a different car altogether. The acceleration of the RA is different than the P1 as you don't seem to be in the gears for long, like being in a rally car
Not tried top end and don't want to, but would not beat the P1 top end I don't think. P1 for top end, RA for pure power and acceleration. But for handling/braking I go with the P1, it was excellent and got me out of a few situations. May be I need to change the wheels/tyres/brakes on the RA as they are in standard form.
There is always this warranty issue with the P1, if you modify it will it void the warranty, I was so pi$$ed off with this
The P1 is a possers car which I enjoyed and MISS VERY MUCH !

Face it the P1 looks old! Its dated and it looks it - Thats the bottom line , yeah we can discuss 1000th of a second times but put the two together on the road and with the exception of the die-hard classic owners EVERYONE will say an Sti8 or in fact a Bug Eye looks better. When we were kings....... Move on ffs!

A bug eye looks better than a classic! Excellent, I needed a laugh!
I had the choice of either of the 3 and went for a classic (Type R).
I'd have a STI8 (Spec C), but you couldn't give me a bug eye!

Mad Gypsy,
I always thought the same until I was at the BB Grading in Chatham last month and in the car park there were 2 P1's. MMMmmmmm, heaven. But then I saw Gadget Daz's Bugeye STI 7 and I was converted, it made the P1's look ancient, completely dated.
The clasic shape will always hold a special place in my heart though!

What's wierd is that the Prodrive performance figures for '03 WRX and '03 STI are similar in some areas.
eg.
0-60
'03WRX PPP 4.8 secs
'03STI PPP 4.62 secs
1/4 mile
'03 WRX PPP 13.7
'03 STI PPP 13.44
I'm not saying that a WRX PPP is as good as a STI PPP (many differences). But it's interesting to see the two sets of figures being so similar in some cases.
I get my PPP fitted tomorrow hopefully...
Cheers,
chris.

I guess it's just personal preference. I have seen a bug eye up close and I didn't like it any more than previous.
The STI8 (blob eye?) has grown on me a lot, like I said, I will be looking at the Spec C as a possible next car (I don't keep them long!)
When the bug eye was released sales dropped by 22% in a growing market, so I'm not the only one to think they look like a giant but plug.

Mad Gypsy,
Off topic slightly, but are you interested in any of my modifications I'm selling.
Lots of let-downs means some things are still for sale.
Need someone with Integrity to buy them!

I was thinking of
Turbo timer
Pedals
Tax disc holder
STI Rears
Side repeaters
Multi changer (maybe head unit?)
Was interested in the wheels but think I've found some 17" Prodrive's
I haven't followed the thread so not sure what you have left.
How about a 95% TKD discount? Sounds fair to me
