I've cracked it!!!
Following on from a previous locked thread, and because he always defends Tony the taxer, and his cronies, I think PSLewis is.....................
Tony Blair
No, PSLewis is obviously ACampbell. Ajax is Tony Blair. I'm amazed he's not contributed so far - anyone want to call his name three times?

Thats a vote winner.Unless you earn at least 20k you are not allowed to have kids..........
May not be a vote winner, but it is total common sense when you look at it in the cold light of day. Trouble is people don't like a dose of reality and would rather stand there with their hands held out as usual.

Tiggers...

I am certainly not wet behind the ears or forgetfull,

after growing up under a labour govenment . the electricity strikes and the winter of discontent.. it made a change to have a govenment that did make changes,, i purchased my own home ( not council, before that one pops up) and managed to lead a very enjoyable life, i worried about normal things, the cost of living, whether the scum who murdered children would be found guilty etc and enjoyed a reasonably happy life..

contrast this to what i have to put up with today.. tax increases that are becoming a joke ,, everytime i travel anywhere i always have the worry of the two week wait for the proverbial NIP..

I dont seem to remember having this under the last Tory government!!

No political party is ideal, they all promise to give you what they want and very quickly fogrt to deliver...

Mrs T stood up to the opposition during the falklands and had the ***** to do so.. tone has tried to do the same, but then has to make sure its ok with everbody! its the same old story .. they see the eu table and get misgivings about becoming the president!!! and the power thing blinds them to the job in hand.

tb likes to posture on the world stage,, pity he didint give as much attention back here...

I travel frequently throughout europe as part of my job, and the feeling there is that we are going in..... funny i thought under a democracy the needs of the many were listened too??..

Still once he's sold us out ,, ooh sorry signed us up, its to late... pity he cant see that as soon as he does his eu buddys will drop him like a ton of bricks.... we as a country are still world leaders and have many specialist fields that are the envy of the world...

if he wants an indication of how well he's doing,, give us the referendum that the rest of the eu are saying we should have!!!

I look at that bloke and think of the the film "The dead zone, cept its not martin sheen, its (tb)

As i said, wet behind the ears or forgetfull .. not really,
just dismayed that we dont seem to learn, but happily role over and play dead.. and then complain when its to late..

Mart,

Sorry, but I think you are looking at the last government through very blue tinted spectacles.

My point here is very simple - be careful what you wish for.

I hear what you are saying about the current government and some of it is very valid, but as I keep saying there was a reason for a record swing against the Tories in 1997.

Just as some examples the Tories when last in power were responsible for:-

Biggest ever single increase in petrol prices, high lending rates, abolition of mortage tax relief, introduction of speed cameras to the UK, wasting enormous (and I mean enormous) amounts of the country's reserves trying to keep us in the ERM when it was obviously impossible, systematic dismatling of UK manufacturing industries, wider application of VAT, general increase in VAT rate, demise of great ideas like the poll tax by poor implementation, cancellation of nearly every major road building scheme in the UK such as the M62 relief road, covert support of the black economy by distorted benefit schemes ..... and the list goes on.

I'm not saying Labour are perfect by a long way, but I just don't know if the Tories will be any better.

The 'new' labour government have lied to us simple as that, not saying the tories didn't before, but these days with accountability being a scale in which public and private sector business's are measured there seems to be none at the highest level, performance related pay is OK as long as we don't have it seems to be the answer in government. I pay more tax now than I ever did FACT, no argument over that if I saw improvements in the public sector but I personally don't and all I hear is complaints about local services. Labour's manifesto did say there would be no increases in direct taxation, and yes they were (and have been) true to there word, pity the voters didn't realise that indirect taxation would cause the money left in there pay packet each week to drop and drop. I never have voted Labour not that I fear change just have never agreed with there policies.

didnt the labour manifesto propose to revise the licensing laws? i bet their landslide had a bit to do with that. imagine how many punters votes they got from that scam.

watching tony blairs cringeworthy theatrical attempts at scincerity is disgusting. the first completely unbearable occasion was on the day of diana's death.

you can argue on technicalities all day. the bottom line seems to be:

conservative = plan it, work for it, get it.
labour = just do it, some other idiot can pay for it.

tiggers,

I may be wrong but regarding...

Just as some examples the Tories when last in power were responsible for:-

"Biggest ever single increase in petrol prices"

...over what period? And how did that compare to international market prices?

"high lending rates"

...cough, i think that Labour hold the record here!!!

"abolition of mortage tax relief"

...er, the Tories started it, but New Labia took it to it's conclusion (i.e. ZERO)!!

"introduction of speed cameras to the UK"

...but hypothecation????

"wasting enormous (and I mean enormous) amounts of the country's reserves trying to keep us in the ERM when it was obviously impossible"

...Dunno?

"wider application of VAT, general increase in VAT rate,"

...er, wasn't it Labour who introduced a TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT luxury VAT on items such as refrigerators??

"demise of great ideas like the poll tax by poor implementation"

...true, due to the vandalism caused by the "great unwashed"!

"cancellation of nearly every major road building scheme in the UK such as the M62 relief road"

Juts like the M6 Toll, that Labour opposed 100% - er, until they got into power!!

"covert support of the black economy by distorted benefit schemes"

..well New Labia are experts at this (asylum seeker cheap labour, incapacity benefit fraud etc.).

"and the list goes on"

It sure does!!!!!

Wifeswap on Channel 4 tonight demonstrates why I am so pi55ed off with my tax situation. That **** gets £37k for doing absolutely f all, yet I loose £333 because I EARNED more than £30k.
To put it in perspective, this guy gets £711 per week for doing nothing more than having eight kids.

As I said earlier in the thread if you can't afford kids you shouldn't have them. Unfortuntely people in this country think it's their divine right to be able to have kids and the rest of society backs them up hence £37K in benefits because they've 8 kids to feed. You can't have it all ways!

A quick point on the benefit family last night as I've been up since 5am and will be up again at 5am tomorrow. I was appalled as anyone that they received £37,000 in benefit each year. But I suspect that if the parents of that televised family were not dysfunctional, as they obviously were, there would be more sympathy to the large family. As a stereotype, large families are often seen as scroungers, when the reality is, that just as many large families are parented by well-balanced parents with a positive outlook.

At the end of the day as far as I have seen with the Tories they are against benefit and also against immigration.

How old are you at the moment? I guess between 25 and 50. If so, who exactly will be paying your pension/ NHS care in 20-40 years from now? since we are an ageing population.

If you in fact 'sterilise' low income/no income families by sticking two fingers up at benefit, you are denying a good proportion of your next generation of potential earners. Coupled with a 'hardball' attitude on immigrants, you will find that the economy will grind to a halt, future tax payers burdened by past generations of ignorance. I’m not in favour of open door policy to immigration, but a selective approach, as a good number of those entering are skilled and objective (if they didn’t have a modicum of either, how did they get here?)

I find this little Englander view of politics and economics most amusing. If people actually bothered to look at facts and not rehashed rubbish from dubious brainwashing tabloids, our island would be a much better place. Sadly, avid readers of trash papers and 'Trisha' fans seem to replicate opinions of others rather than thinking for themselves.

I am as fed up as many a person that the same political party can win three elections in a row (as labour will next time around). I would like to see a credible opposition in the commons challenging Blair on every issue, sadly this is not happening, and won't happen under the current Conservative party, whose current leader was chosen by an ageing backward looking membership (average age 60+). Are people on here seriously in favour of a Tory party run by a biddy pin up, or a forward thinking obviously articulate and cunning incumbent PM?

The thicko comment of the week has to go to the person on here (?) who suggests the electorate will not be fooled again by Blair and will be voted out. Get real. Blair is still the most favoured leader amongst all the party leaders (FACT), and this is DESPITE the recent setbacks that have happened to his administration.

I keep going back to the fact that there is no credible opposition, and at the moment Blair is the best we have got.

Bull****. Just open up yer ears and *listen* to the new Conservative policy ideas. There is *more* than a credible opposition there.

You're kidding right?

I listened to Michael Howard yesterday - what a wishy washy waste of space that guy is. The basic synopsis of their stance on tax is 'we're not opposed to the idea of tax cuts, in fact they sound like a great idea, but we aren't promising any".

Yeah that'll get them elected.
