Cue music.....
A little bit of Monica in my life,
A little bit of Erica by my side.
A little bit of Rita's all I need,
A little bit of Tina's all I see.
A little bit of Sandra in the sun,
A little bit of Mary all night long.
A little bit of Jessica here I am,
err whats the rest?
Strangly I fancy a guinness now![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

what it says on the back of the speaker is probably peak power handling. most speakers will chug away with a 100w or 200w amp. but that will be hitting peaks (if it's a good amp) of 500w or 600w in loud bits in the music. plus the resistance of the 'speaker isn't uniform over the frequency range.
better go to bed now before i get really boring

With the sensitivity of Cerwin Vega's (I've seen several with ~100dB at 1 Watt, 1 Metre), 100 Watts of decent power would be plenty to attract most people's attention from a fair distance. With my little power amp (an ATC SP2/150, for those who have heard of it), I don't doubt you could attract the police if that is your main aim in life. I'd rather live with something that it is quite loud enough and sounds great.
Personally I've always liked Ruark speakers when driven well, my Equinoxe's sing along quite nicely. But speakers are very personal things, listen to anything, preferably with your amp, CD player etc, before buying.

Always liked my ancient tannoy's (609's I think), have some Rega EL8's courtesy of a mate who upgrades far to oftent, nice and detailed but they donr 'ROCK' like the Tannoys.
However, now with three small kids I only listen to music in the car, no late nights of wanton volume abuse or gigs, just moderate volume in a car that produces too much noise to hear it anyway !

yeah but what do you think CL70s are? bookshelf type size on spiked stands. would be a waste to put them on a bookshelf, obviously. VdH cable etc etc

"The ones I remember about forty years ago were like an electric radiator."
Quad 57's ...had a pair. Maybe the worlds finest speaker of all time. The bass was an issue due to some of the amps used...Poxy quad 22 etc which didnt work well...unlike the Leak stereo 20 which did. If the bass panels where working fine and the speakers where on stands ...trust me the bass was good.
You can get a new modern rebuilt set for around £1500.00 that are better than the originals due to better frames and stand.
Nothing works like a pair of 57's
