"scoobyecu" is a re-map from a couple of guys on this bbs. See www.scoobyecu.co.uk for more details

Edited to say it's only for 93-96 model imprezas, both uk and import models. Do a quick search and see how many happy customers there are on this bbs. I'm not associated with the guys, just a convert to their re-map

Sorry to digress everyone, but with regard to the scoobyecu - if 270-280bhp is what most people have after the scoobyecu fitting - why bother! If you are changing ECU why not go for a LINK or MOTEC which gives much higher figures than this?

I can see how that might be attractive to someone with a UK spec car but surely a jap spec WRX must produce more than that. My MY93 WRX (240bhp model) produced 287bhp and 258lb/ft at 1.0 bar boost with a simple change to a type RA ecu (from a 260bhp model) and the addition of a Mongoose exhaust system albeit full system and decat.

Maybe I'm missing something - is the scoobyecu very very cheap?

Had a look at the link to scoobyecu but there is nothing there - just a picture of a circuit board and an e-mail link.

Not having a go at anyone just wondering if I am missing out on something! Pavlo - does a jap spec car produce more than 270-280bhp with the scoobyecu?

Wink

To get back on subject if anyone else is suffering a similar problem to "the gus" ask yourslef if the engine has been changed in your car or is their any other reason that the Lambda sensor wiring might be loose. On early cars the Lambda sensor is located by the headers and if the wiring is not secured the wiring may make contact with the hot surface and cause a short circuit. This sends an incorrect voltage signal to the ECU which results in your car running like a dog!!! It can also lead to a failure of the ECU due to the incorrect voltages.

Symptoms are irregular boost - car runs rough as £$%"!!!! - runs better after ECU reset but then degrades very quickly - all of the above but intermittently runs OK!

Hope that helps anyone else suffering from this - it bugged me silly for a couple of months!!

An ECU is nothing, it's the mapper that is 'the product'.
The the price, the ScoobyECU is phenomenal, and is quite as capable as getting the power available from the car as a Link would be. Then it's a compromise on the mappers' behalf - the power given is a safe, reliable one, which is what any good mapper should produce (unless for specific things, such as a 1/4 mile run where ultimate power is more important than longevity). Also, the JDMs do not produce the power 'on the packet' because of the fuel we have here. Also, the UK models typically produce more than 'on the packet', although of course all of these numbers are largely meaningless due to the fact they are measured on RRs...

NOM - thanks very much - that's exactly what I thought which is why am having Bob Rawle map my car. Had never heard of the scoobyecu and wondered if it had something diferent to offer.

I think I prefer to stay with a known product so I don't think the scoobyecu is for me.

May thanks for your input though!!

Highlander- in my case I wanted a re-map for 97RON fuel NOT 100 as my wrx was mapped for. I didn't want to nor could I afford to spend $500-£1000 on a re-map so I went for the scoobyecu. AFAIK this ecu was developed by guys on this bbs using maps taken from "proper" re-maps from big name companies so they are pretty good and at around £65-70 are a lot cheaper too.I too was concerned about reliability so I waited until I had fitted a boost gauge, knocklink and AFR before getting one but it runs like a dream and in fact the knocklink doesn't even light up at full revs like it did before the re-map.

I don't have any major mods so I feel the ecu is perfectly suited to my car as it doesn't need "fine tuning"

I realise that if I want to squeeze every last bhp from my engine then a full ECU set up would be the way to go but there are a lot of guys on this bbs running this ecu without problems.

These aren't just "cheap and nasty" boost upgrades, they are the full monty and even off boost my car feels so much better thanks to the improved timing

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a pre 96 model

AFR link
knocklink info

These are taken from the website I bought mine from but I'm not associated with them in any way. There are other suppliers of these products, this is just for example

i dont have a picture bt if you open the bonnet look at the front of the engine on the o/s . look between the chassis leg and the head and look down and you will see the exhaust . you should be able to see the lamda sensor sticking out. also the wires for it should be clipped to tho o/s cam belt cover. good luck and hope it cures it e

Are your coil packs ok? I've heard they can cause a slight misfire when it's damp if the insulation around them has cracked.

I've not managed to find my Lambda sensor but I think I've cured my problem. I found the clicking thing under the boost pressure solnoid has a hose that goes to a type of air box. The hose had come out of the airbox, I screwes it back in and re-attached the hose and everything seems ok
