thats purely because of the torque curve peetering out at such high revs, the STI would be pulling 7k+ at 60 due to the gearing, the WRX would be at approx 6.5k thus giving it more pulling power still.

No one has ruffeled my feathers, I just find it hard to beleive, also those figures on prodives site bare absolutely no resembalance to those figures quoted by Subaru themselves, last i checked a standard STI was doing 0-60 faster than 5 and a half seconds.

CTR you've misunderstood part of what was said, i.e WRX+PPP is quicker than a STANDARD STi not the STi+PPP.
You're right the figs on Pro-Drive are a bit off the mark but they have to give an average 0-60 time. Gear change, weather conditions, driver ability and above all else each car will be slightly different to others.
Years ago I worked for a company which povided us with Escort 1.4lx as company cars. The difference in performance between them was rediculous. Whatever marque of car you look at there's always going to be a slight difference in performance between cars.
My heart still says if I didnt have to do so many miles then an STi type C for me

Exactly Supercue, the miles (40k/yr) are the deciding factor - MPG and the all round driveablility factor - I stirred up a response alright with this thread but to all those STi owners I would definately have bought one of those if I did less miles, it's a brilliant road going race/rally car where as the WRX PPP is a brilliant and fast more everyday car. Did I really say that... will 4.7s 0-60 and 13. whatever seconds ever be everyday!!

I wasn't having a dig maybe a few more of these will help !
That's fair enough,I am not trying to rub anyone up the wrong way it was just there were a few figures being thrown about earlier that i found quite hard to beleive, not that the WRX is slow but would subaru really make their flagship car the under dog, also the thing about the STI's SUS it is actually progressive the faster you go the smoother it becomes, which is good because you really don't want the car to be thrown about to much when your on an A or B road at 120mph with a tight corner approaching.
These cars especialy the STI are designed to be driven hard and the harder you drive them the more rewarding they become, I think it all boils down to driver abillity, and how you can control the car, if your doing motorway miles and that is the deciding factor then why haven't you bought a Golf TDI or a 3 Series BMW they are far more comfortable than Scoob and produce better MPG.
Horses for Courses and all that I know but, you have to see where I am coming from, don't you ???
and to reasure myself that no one takes this the wrong way this is just an opinion and no offence is intended and i am not uptight,

I know exactly where you're coming from. To be honest (and this makes me sound camp) the STI was too extreme for the every day driving I do, plus the wife didn't like the ride at all. The WRX is a fantastic compromise - and mine has 5 doors
After driving an STI for the first time, I came home determined to have one. Then I realised that I actually wanted something a little bit more comfortable. The STI is utterly, utterly fantastic and quite a bit more rewarding - the WRX feels quite "inert" back to back, and you can have a lot of fun on the handling limits in an STI (Tom, this was another car naturally, not yours mate ). The WRX is still fun, but isn't as rewarding as it doesn't have the handling finesse of the STI. However, the suspension is a *lot* more compliant so what you lose in handling you gain in day-to-day driving.
So, after thinking about it I decided on the WRX... The STI is unbelievable value for money (6 speed box, great brakes, better seats, ...) but if I had one it would need the PPP and handling kit. The WRX that I've got has a backbox, and that's it. Oh, apart from quite a bit of ICE . PPP will come sometime, but I think it'll be next year in the summer to deal with the massive power loss in hot weather.
It is horses for courses. The WRX, WRX PPP, STI and STI PPP are all fantastic cars - drive em all and make your choice. If there was one "best" car for everyone, we'd all drive the same car and there'd be no point in making anything else
Cheers,
Nick.
