Convent's Mini Metro
The convent had been presented with a new car, a red Mini Metro, the pride of its breed. Sister Lucy, the only qualified driver, became the chauffeur for all and sundry. Every Saturday she would drive Reverend Mother into town for the shopping.

All went well till Bank Holiday weekend when the town was so packed with people and cars that it became evident that there was no earthly place to park.

'Don't worry, Mother,' said Sister Lucy. 'You go into the supermarket and I'll drive round the block until you come out.'

Off sped the car, and Reverend Mother bustled round the store quickly, picking up all the necessary goods and then rushing back to the kerbside. There she stood for five minutes, ten, fifteen, twenty. No sign of Sister Lucy. Where could she be?

Eventually Reverend Mother approached a patrolling policeman.

'Excuse me, officer,' said she, 'have you seen a nun in a red Mini?'

'No,' replied the copper, 'but these days nothing would surprise me!'

look for the nice white one (pre spray job) that does 13.2
if elvington is good enough for sky tv and totb1&2 then its good enough for me

Top Gear mag ran a totally standard UK MY97 turbo 208bhp (two hundred and eight) and got a 14.5 1/4 so with nearly 50% more power you are looking at a low 13 for a 290-300bhp classic.

the car above which did 14.11 is a later model which i belive had a bit more power? maybe about 215? (im not sure of it)
also a lot depends on the driver, tyre choice, just how hard u want to rag a 4wd from the start line etc etc

times seam pretty acurate to me

what i find with my car is that as im crossing the line the revs are @ about 6.5k in 4th gear (from memory)
i always get the same dilema as i aproach the line
"do i shift up to 5th or not"

as i actualy cross the line its normaly reving past 6.5k which is past its peak power, do u shift and lose a bit of time but continue to pull hard or leave it and rev past peak power

i would asume that type r/ra gearboxed cars will be well into 5th gear as they cross the line

Im on micky's list as cossiejohn but i havent got a full de-cat it's standard bar back box. So my standard spec car can do 13's all day long as it usually does. So a 290 scoob should be low 13's no probs. Look at peccy's ran low 13's all the time at the pod and that was 280 bhp.

Std STI V with exhaust, RRed at 280ish hp.

12.9 @ 106

stdish STI V, approx 360hp - 12.2 @ 116

You don't need 400-500hp to get low 12s.

P20SPD and me are proof of that.....some horses are real, some are pony

Question

Wasnt it Evo or Car that ran an MY98 bog standard scoob at the pod and got 13.9? (we are talking 208bhp here btw!)
Ok it didnt have a lot of fuel in it but 13.9 is very achievable in a uk car with 250bhp.
You also have to take into account that places like crail dont have the race spec tarmac (i believe its called Silverstone tarmac) that the pod has, nor do they make the concrete anywhere near as grippy by adding to it.
Also, 4wd transmission losses..... its still a bit of a myth, its never been proven as it has only been seen on rolling roads, which would be programmed by someone who wouldnt actually know everything about the way transmission works (ie a software engineer and not a mechanical engineer) but the scoobs down side is actually power to weight and normally a very restrictive exhaust.

Nice one Craig

What a load of childish twaddle.

I have been running consistently all year in the 12's, odd low to mid 13 on a screwed up run, but a month ago i was consistantly putting in mid 12's. Recorded a few low 12's, one being 12.16s.

2 Weeks later my car was Rolling roaded, same spec, and it produced 361bhp at Well Lane.

Have a look here at the 2003 page and you should see some representative figures.

was at santa pod at run what u brung a few weeks ago and it was my first time on the pod and yep i got beaten by a metro, he did it in 14.3 and i did it in 14.9 due to my messing up on the 2nd to 3rd gear change.. but besides that 14.3 for a metro is pretty good. not sure what he had under the bonnet my cars running 244bhp with 271 torque

Well scooby fame at last!!!!!!

It was I that got beat by the "metro". Sorry abiut not replying earlier but be away working all week. I'd better give some sort of excuses.

Who said my car is 290 bhp???? When asked the power I said I thought it would be BETWEEN 270 and 290 with the mods I have, Its not been RR'd. Still sounds better if you beat a 290 car.

So you experts, namely ThickyMicky what power do you think my car is running???

94 WRX 240 on 100 ron
Scoobynet ECU
full decat
dawes at 16 psi
itg panel filter

Yes first run I stuffed you 13.87 to 14.28
second run 13.91 to 14.00, you won by having a quicker reaction time.

This was only my second time of doing the strip so perhaps I have not quite got the knack yet and also have a bit of respect of a 10 year old car regarding the clutch, gear box and engine.

"My" person goal of the day was to get in to the 13sec and 100 mph terminal speed which I did. As to what all you other scooby drivers do at other strips is up to you and I raise my hat to you all as you must be better drivers than me and have far superior car than my old heap of crap.

It's a good job the shopping trolly that went up the strip, I kid you not, didn't have a cossie lump in it or all you "fast" lads would have been made to look silly.

Two weeks before I stuffed a V 12 Ferrari at santa pod, it was a 1979 400i but hay who cares, a Ferrari scalp!!!

As for being a ***** driver who tows aan invisible caravan there must be alot of scooby drivers like me about, take a look at the scooby shootout results 24th and over

24 25 Matt Bedford Impreza Turbo 13.73 93
25 24 Sam Bennion Impreza WRX 13.76 94
26 30 Graham Parry Impreza Turbo 13.80 95
27 2 Adam Lunn Impreza Turbo 13.82 99
28 26 P Copley Impreza S202 13.87 99
29 33 Mark Stewart Impreza WRX 13.97 94
30 20 Simon Davidson Impreza STi7 13.98 99
31 6 Martyn Richardson Impreza Turbo Wagon 14.04 92
32 54 Peter Varey Impreza WRX 14.04 92
33 11 Paul Hopwood Impreza Turbo Prodrive 14.06 93
34 7 Simon Davidson Impreza Turbo 14.08 94
35 53 David Wrest Impreza Turbo 14.16 94
36 28 Phil Beckwith Impreza Turbo 14.25 91
37 12 Paul Dodsworth Impreza Terzo 14.31 94
38 29 Roy Cook Impreza Turbo 14.37 92
39 10 Mike Baty Impreza Turbo 14.40 90
40 34 Simon Roe Impreza Turbo Wagon 14.52 99
41 9 Peter Sincock Impreza Turbo 14.75 91
42 17 Mick Clark Impreza Turbo Prodrive 14.82 96

So I'm starting a new web site for scoobies, you can apply for membership at the following

www.pussyscoobydriverstowinginvisiblecaravans.co.u k

Any body can apply except expert drivers like Thick Micky and Buzzer cause you don't like caravans

And all you with extra large portions in the trouser department can **** of as well.

This is of all said in fun, I take my hat of to Iparkes, but as said in a previous post it's not really a "metro" is it

Sorry if I have embarrassed any scooby drivers on here by beind beat by a "metro", don't lose any sleep over it, I won't.

1/4 mile 13.87 @ 100.61 and proud of it

The End

at last :>
thanx for the reply mate !

o,k well maybe i said the higher bhp , u should get it on the rollers and we will know then .

u can call it a metro , it is useing all the same mounts , and a least i didn't go down the line of gutting all the trim .

might do for the 2nd tho , see what the shed can do

at the end of the day it's no wicked car i know that , but its by no means a kit car ! its just a little shed that ows me 600 quid !!!, with some mods , if we are going down the lines of saying it's not a metro due to the mods ! then we can say the same about your cars !

but lets not go down that line

All said in jest.

Hi Ian

Like I said I would have come up earlier but I been working away.

Not knocking your car at all mate, it was some thing I wanted to do when I was younger. Bet you have lots of fun on the road.

Might go to the pod on sunday, depending of course on the weather, then I'll give it some 6k launches and see if I can beat you again.

At the end of the day we are all car enthusiasts enjoying different cars
