Would you really want to buy an rx8 with such a poor advert- ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM? This all seems pretty gay to me, totally wrong type of advert for such a performance car. Bit like Chris Rea on the Ford Probe ad.

Interesting grammar Scooby_Si but well made point!
The RX-8 is more of a sport-coupe than an out and out sports car. That's the main reason I'm replacing my CTR with one.
Apparently they are very good on track though - not that I'd ever consider this obviously

I am sooo jealous!!!
Another 26 days to wait for mine... and the CTR is sold in two weeks so I'm having a Laguna - it's going to be torture.
Mind you, Platinum has to be the better colour here

How do you guys who have got an RX8 feel about the engine rebuild at 60,000 miles at a cost of 6000 pounds. A close friend is a mazda salesman and many people are cancelling orders and loosing there deposit due to this very reason.

Stam who told you that ?!?!?!?
RX7's has an engine rebuild at 60k as a guide but the RX8 has the renesis engine which has overcome, it would seem, the minor issues with the RX7 rotary engine. But woahaha 6k for that you can get a superb rebuild a basic refresh will only cost £1500 or so, again depends which bits you need/want to replace but thats a hell of a lot cheaper than rebuilds on similar performance skylines, supras etc etc. Whoever has told u that has followed the basic BS on rotaryies that floats about to extremes IMO

My research comes from a Mazda salemans (a close friend) and i was shocked. I asked him if they were shifting and he said they were until people were told about the engine rebuild. He must be lying i apologise for posting the infomation i recieved. You all must have a vaster knowledge than a person employed to sell them!

Feel free to wander over to the Mazda Rotary Club site where there are some people who know about rotaries Even better if you can point the salesman in that direction
3rd Gen RX-7 Owner - who will be gutted if he doesn't get 60k out of his current engine despite it having a couple of turbos on it.

PMSL not being funny but even if that was infact true, which it clearly aint, what sort of salesman would tell that to potential customers to see if it would put them off just found that idea amusing that's all. I'll get me coat....

ah reading it a different way though they were being told by other sources & it is true to say most people have the opinion that roatries need rebuilding every 60k so from that angle i guess many might cancel orders on that info alone

Being diplomatic i'd still read what he's said a different way now in that dealers are having many people cancel order when potential customers been told, wrongly by some pub talk/other source or sumin, that rebuild needed at 60k.
Wood however still p!ss myself laughing if a dealer had said that to a customer

FYI: I actually asked this question to the workshop manager where my RX-8 is coming from before ordering. He told me that the new Renesis engine has a new type of rotor tip that Mazda say will last 150k and longer if it's kept well oiled all the time. They have also changed the low oil warning for the RX-8 so that it now means 'please add some oil shortly' rather than 'panic, panic need oil or explode'!

i agree car salesman do exaggerate. However he is one of my best friends and what does he have to gain by lying to me, i dont want an RX8.
When selling the car he doesn't just come out with the rebuild for no reason, it comes up when the question of servicing is raised. He also said if you have a full Mazda service history Mazda will do the work for free. Mazda will look for any floor in that history so not to pay however.
The reason i assumed this would be true is because what type of salesman would lie about a something that is detrimental to the car? If anything he would just not mention it.
When on the two day course he attended on the car infomation he gained whilst there must also be inaccurate. The people who put on this course only built the car!

Yup the rotor tips have been upgraded which was one of the main reasons for needing a rebuild.
Top gear quoted it as have rotortips made from the hardest thing known to man, dried on wheetabix
