If you give SW a little bit of time, it makes a truly excellent addon and really breathes a bit of new life into BF. Makes an excellent change. RTR is regarded by a very small minority of bf users as a good addon, but SW is miles above it IMO.

Just got SW yesterday Nick but havent had a chance to try it. What about the Desert Combat mod, is it any good?

Desert Combat.. what can i say.
I downloaded it only last week.
And havent stopped playing, its fantastic !!
New weapons !
New planes F14 swing wing - and the wings swing LOL !!
It was on the Cover DVD of PCZONE this month !
Marxsman - Home page with a forum on would be a great idea,
We can promote on the scooby sites and chat on the TEAM FORUM.

This is true Brian, but the Clan would still be called Clan ScoobyNet, but in battle would be shortened to Clan [SN]. We could still plaster the webby with the ScoobyNet name etc
My old Q3 clan was Voodoo Glow Skulls, shortened to [VGS] for games. I guess this is how lots of clan names are abbreviated.

ive bin playing Desert Combat for about 5 month.
going back to the plain game is dam hard, as although good, it just isnt a patch on DC.
it seems prehistoric and cumbersome in comparsion

Right forum is up - only took an hour so it'll do to get us started. Register and post any changes you want to see. I'm sure it'll develop over time anyway. It'll be a good way for all of us to plan stuff for the clan (practices and stuff).

I was hoping we could kick off something this Sat night perhaps. I'm not sure how we can work this, I use Mirc usually to arrange online games, perhaps Messenger might be better to begin with but having our own Mirc chan would really be the way to go.
You can dl Mirc here if you dont have it already.

I use All Seeing Eye to find servers with decent pings and this would be a good download for those who dont have it already. Its very easy to use and much better than 1942's in game app. You can also set up a buddy list where we can track each other and find out which server we are all using etc.

Teamspeak is also worth nabbing, its a voice over Ip app and seems to work well with minimal lag.

I thought we might like to hit a quiet or even empty server (depending on numbers) as a 50/50 split allies/axis and then if it became busier we could gradually all move over to the allies. This would give us a fair bit of praccy before the game hots up and would get us all on the same side for the real action. Dunno how this would go down with the other non SN players though, like a tonne of bricks no doubt
If only a few of us can make Sat night we could just jump on a half full server perhaps. It would be good if we could all be on the same team but we might get asked to split to make the sides even. Another problem is if we all used the [SN] tag and were on the same side we would possibly be targeted by our own side, if you know what I mean.
This approach is obvioulsy because we dont have a server of our own. Rex's offer sounds great and if I'm about I'll pop in tonight. It would be great if we could play Rex's/Nicks Clan as they could help hone our skills as a team and obviously they have a nice fast servers as well .
Long term though I think we will need a strat for meeting up, and for how we handle joining games etc.
Getting our own server would be great but would cost a fair bit and this would mean we would have to be fairly into the Clan thing as well as setting up payment methods and admin of the server.
I'm a long term Quake/CS player but at 1942 I'm a relative novice, I've never played as a team/clan at it, just jumping on servers for fun, so perhaps someone else can shed some light on how this might work.

You are all MORE than welcome to frequent our server. there is only one thing that may hinder you, we have auto balance teams enabled, as back in the day on our old clan server that was packed out most of the time, we had to keep things fair and rule with a bit of an Iron Fist.
If things are quiet and a FTA member is on with you that has admin access, you can ask him to temp switch off auto balance and also swap to a map of your choosing, If he is arsey, just say Mr Footlong says it is ok to do so

We only ever tend to password protect it when we have to play a match on there m8
The most likely match times are wed 8-10 and sun 8-10
We do have some others occasionally, but she is public for the most part.

1 thing. The 1.5 bf patch has been released but unfortunatly our server has not been updated yet. It uses nasty freeBSD and apparantly the 1.5 server install/patch doesn't work on that yet

I've installed a Team Speak Server so that anyone with a headset can chat. If you install TeamSpeak and then search for Scoobynet Clan Server. Password is scoobynet.
We can then use this in game.
Might also be worth transferring the chat of this to our forum so not to **** off the admin to much on here? FORUM HERE

What spec PC you need to play this as Ive got a measly Athlon 1.7 and a lowly GF2 GTS 64mb? Need a new game to play after 4.5 years of CS until they ruined it with 1.6 release.

Personally, I have used a Geforce 3 Ti200, which is a fair bit stronger than the GTS and on a XP2000 I found it barely playable tbh with a few colour anomolies etc.
CPU that you have is bareable for BF, but it is going to be a little doglike with that VGA tbh
Saying that, I have a guy in our clan that is still using a Gf2MX for BF
. He is also one of the very best pilots about.
