Bravo we were meant to be using Teamspeak, but as of yet I dont know if anyone has, even though marc set up a server. I think the problem is there is not enough of us online at the same time to use it. If we ever get a few peeps on the same server it would be great using teamspeak.

A word of advice, dont practice flying the planes or helis online in a busy server, your likely to get kicked or flamed if you keep taking one and crashing etc. I've given up on piloting atm as I prefer the vehicles and leg work (i.e. flying is atill too hard ) and hopefully I wont kill as many of my own team m8's

I'm usually on barrysworld servers as are a few others, mainly I'm playing the DC .5 maps like Basrah Nights.

I found a good manual yesterday which I though was pretty good. I'm still new at DC and I found this mucho help:

http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~sa...l/dcmanual.htm

If anyones about tonight I'll prob be on one of the BW DC servers.

If you guys are going to be having matches eventually, be it friendly or competition, you will find that a sniper is not of that much use if deployed for a whole round. I have yet to come across a single decent clan that use a sniper for any more than one spawn before and we have played a fair few.

Yeah as Footlong says snipers have limited use, they cannot cap flags so are used mainly as spotters for heavy artillery etc.

I have had some limited success with snipers on busy infantry based maps, picking off enemy troops from a distance letting my team advance. The main thing about sniping is to make sure your well hidden (use the diff views to make sure you cannot be seen from any angle) and make sure you're near an area of relatively high activity without spawn camping.

Im talking conquest here as its all I really play. Its not so much base camping, which is kinda part of the game, to take over control points anyway, but spawn camping, i.e. sitting in front of spawn points killing people as soon as they appear, not even giving them the chance to 'play' the game as intended. Which sucks

The only one that we kick/ban for it Main Base camping, as in bases that cannot be captured at all.

Example: Both bases on Gazala, El Al, Market Garden. Come into those bases on track or foot and go raping and you get treated accordingly. When I was frequently playing, I used to account for about 85% of all kicks/bans, as I ruled the server with an iron fist. Helped to make our old BF server one of the most popular in the land.

Cool

I disagree with the notion that Snipers are of "limited use" in games. In other games where the sniper character is limited to only that role, then yes, maybe.

But in BF1942, you aren't limited. Snipers can drive tanks, fly planes, crash jeeps as well as the next player. I personally love being in the role. And afterall, it's a game and is supposed to give you enjoyment. Hence, if you want to be a sniper, be one.

The main disadvantage of being a sniper though, is revenge. If you're involved in a tank battle, you are killing lots of opponents, and it isn't (usually) personal... but snipers tend to take it that way, and take great pleasure in hunting you down, just for the revenge killing. Tis truely a great game!

Hence why I said 'MATCH'

being a sniper and driving around in a tank that you cannot repair unless you kill an engee and nick his pack is pretty pointless. We have played a clan in the past a few times that had 2 dedicated snipers and even had the cheek to send them jeeping into bases with enemy infantry and tanks there. Complete waste of time m8.

When playing on publics etc, of course do whatever gives you joy, I was merely trying to help your ragtag bunch when it comes to matches with a little advice from the last 1+ year that I have been clanning in this game.

Hi,

As Jye said I installed Team Speak server on my PC when we first started all this but no one was using it so i turned it off. I've turned it back on now and will endevour to keep it on if some people are going to use it. The address is Scoobynet Clan Server and the password is scoobynet I haven;t tried my comms yet so if anyone wants to connect then we can test it.

It can also be a massive 'fair' advantage when playing online so i think perhaps we should make the effort to try and use it?

Cheers
Marc

i have the teamspeak programe installed just need to get gamevoice, mmm i did have that somewhere ??? ill have a look.

OK then, the PUBLIC servers are a bit of a FREE FOR ALL. have to admit that.
No real meaning to the game u8nless you have a few mates and you know what you are doing.

MATCHES are strictly " youre there to do a mission " so no taking a jeep for a spin to see the 1/4 mile times LOL !!

OR takign the jeep out on the Runway to see if you can beat the plane off the runway! as you wont be very popolar.

does anyoknow the banwidth the Voice overlay uses ?? as i only have a 128K ISDN connection here, and it seems to struggle just with the game !!.

LOL it reminds me 500 meg DC download better get on it !

speak laterz all on our Forum ???#

Duck_Pond snipers cannot cap flags. In a game where capping flags is how you win a sniper 'will' have a 'limited' use when compared to engineers or medics. I play the sniper rarely as I have found my team has more use for engineers and medics on most maps.

If 1942 is played out with individuals becoming more interested in personal points/choices than with what the 'team' really needs to win a map, then I guess it becomes much harder for team orientated players to get much out of a game.

1942 is a 'team-centric' game.

All IMO.

I also think that the map used determines how effective (or not) a sniper (or any other type of player) is.

On desert maps such as Gazala, then yes, snipers are pretty useless, as the map is orientated towards tank and plane warfare.

On some of the island maps, where tanks are absent, and planes are a rarity, then things are different, and sneeky (tree hugging) snipers can be invaluable for capturing spawn points across the map.

I'm yet to try the secret weapons version - a mate says the sniper's gun is much better. Maybe it'll take some of the enjoyment factor away though - afterall, snipers have to be extremely accurate to get a kill.

Now the weather is getting bleak again, and the nights have drawn in, I suppose I'll have to dig out the old battle uniform, and see what new trees are on the new maps for me to hug.

Brian you dont need the Gamevoice software. In fact you dont need the Gamevoice unit, just the headphones/mic. I used to have a Gamevoice myself but its a bit of a con as all you get is a decent planatronics headphone/mic and a useless base unit never gets used.

Rip the phones off and stick em into yer soundcard, its all ye need.

The 128k isdn users will have to have you guys running a low quality codec to use bf and that with any real success. We used to have a playr on 128k isdn and if a lot was going on comms, even with low bandwitch codec used, he used to get awful ping spikes, with TS and the old one we used to use, I forget the name now. Hopefully your guy will fair better.
