NM Bravo, I never managed to get into my game and played like a complete moron

I think I'll keep practicing one or two maps for a while, rather than attempting to learn them all while my KTD ratio plummets incrementally

Unhappy

I still cannot use M$ Gamevoice software. I've read every article about not being able to connect and I'm still no wiser.

NP m8, I've nothing to hide!!

/me quickly puts his **** onto external HD

I dont use XP's firewall Bravo, I use Norton Pro and its been configured to allow for the Gamevoice ports.

The port forwarding on the Netgear is a dawdle to set up so I doubt its the router playing up. I'm stumped at the min with this Gamevoice software, Rodger Wilco and Teamspeak work fine for me. The only ports I've ever needed to forward before were the ones Bittorrent uses

Worse comes to worse Bravo if I dont get it working by Fri if you could have look at the router interface I'll sort you out with a password np.

LOL @ Bravo. Hey if Gamevoice takes up less bandwidth I'm all for getting it working. Plus I hate not having something that others have

I WILL crack this

TS is excellent through firewalls....

We have used it for over a year now and our members have various kit and firewalls and they have no issues. The choice of codecs is far better too tbh.

Yeah Nick, never had probs with it mesel.

One think I meant to ask, who do you use to host the TS server. Is it someone who isnt playing or is a decent ADSL connection OK for hosting and playing?

Same here Bravo, perhaps we should try TS once more. Mr. Footlong makes a good case for its use, its just the hosting I'm wondering about.

/me looks up TS's webby

Echo is caused by users not getting their sensitity, voice trigger level and output volumes setup correctly

Have a look at what the default channel codec is that you are using on the TS server for the breaking up issue, but that again could be voice trigger level

Both GSM16.4 and the Speex codecs are excellent, but GSM 16.4 is going to be a little heavy for the ISDN user..

We have dedicated 32 player teamspeak servers on our rented box, but before all of that I ran a TS server for us from the office on 20:1 512/256 ADSL with perfectly acceptable results. Used to default that to GSM 16.4 most of the time, but ping spiked our ISDN user to hell back then in game.

Cheers,

Nick

again, the echo is down to headset stup within TS and also quality of headset plays a VERY important part along with soundcard with TS especially.

Before the guys slowly sorted their setups out, some of the stuff was hilarious that we heard. Guys using bog standard ac97 onboard sound for example used to create all sorts of funk down the line, like harleys, choppers etc. Like I said they all sorted themselves out in the end tho.

So how did you set up the server in the office Nick? I'm using NAT behind a snide BT router at work. The BT router doesnt seem to have any configuration options for port forwarding etc. I would happily set up our works server for TS if I could.

If you have a BT black box set up in NAT config you are borked.

The full firmware versions of those are perfect, but in BT firmware form are very dumb.

If it was in Non- NAT setup as you know, you would be fine, but need more firewall gubbins prob .

Damn it, thought so. Hmm, I dont need to use BT black box though. Perhaps it might stop working

Found this on TS site re echo Bravo:

There basicly are two ways echos can occur:

a) Sound from your speakers/headphones being recorded by your microphone.

b) Your sound driver recording all sound that you hear for you.

Now, 'which one do I have' you might be asking yourself...You can quite easily find out, just turn your speakers/headsets off (volume = 0%), and ask your mates if you are still echoing. If you are not, you got (a), else (b).

Howto fix (a):

This type of echo is nearly impossible to fix completely, but you can minimize it greatly if you follow a few general points:
- Switch your speakers off when TeamSpeak is on, use a Headset to hear.

- Use Headphones that shield well, meaning they prevent as much sound as possible from being audible to the outside.

- Try and keep your Microphone as far away as possible from the Headset (or more general, the sound-source).

- Lower the Volume of the sound-source

Howto fix (b):

These echos are produced by your sound-drivers, they should be configurable by your driver too (its not a bug, its a feature). From windows users I have often heard there is a checkbox in one of the recording menus called "what you hear", or "stereomix". If you uncheck this, the driver-echo should be gone. As windows is *insert*curse*, there doesnt seem to be a way to change this on all machines - it depends on your driver/OS combination, you just have to search around. Good luck.

The 'What you hear' one is famous on the mixer settings of the Audigy series cards. I too suffered from that in the beginning.
