Go to Germany and buy a 300hp 6 cylinder BMW Alpina B3 all-wheel drive sedan or wagen.

Cool

Make sure you drive a 996,then take out the 993 to put a smile on your face again!
The 993 is the last true 911,built lovingly by engineers, not a bunch of suits trying to get down to a budget.

Just wondered what the relative service costs are like for all the cars so far mentioned?

Cool

Menu based servicing for Porsche from specialist dealer.

Ranges from £125-175 depending on what miles. Porks don't go wrong often but make sure you get a good'un as if they do go wrong you will be poor!

General servicing about the same or cheaper than main dealer Scoob. Consumables vary - shocks cheaper than Scoob, but exhaust or clutch a lot more.

Hmmm the R32 golf has a lot more room than a porker! Anyway a c spec scooby would be my choice if 30k was burning a hole in my pocket, i wonder how much an E55 merc would go 4 second hand?

Go for the Skyline R34 GTR V-Spec, Bayside Blue - Top motor, very nice colour too!!(A bit like Sonic Blue)

And they pretty much rip any motor off the road

Mmmmm...

My votes would be:

Porsche 911 (993)
Skyline R34
Saab 9-3SS Aero
MG ZT V8

Yum!

S4 or S6 - great quality and performance a bit Q as stated previously and go for one with Bose and Tiptronic with tip steering wheel. (very thirsty tho!)

If you're not going Audi then the S60R is a belter - 300bhp and 400NM of toque (on the manual transmission). The adjustable suspension (three settings) is fantastic you can cruise in comfort or change it on the move to a setting akin to a scoob!

Word of warning - the volvo auto box isn't up to the huge torque of the motor so if you order it in auto they restrict the torque quite a bit - which is naff. They are all 4 wheel drive but its auto sensing so when you're just rolling along it dissengages to save fuel etc - clever eh!

Ditch the Porche idea - overrated IMHO and 30k will only buy you a shed

A 993 is air-cooled. A 996 is water-cooled.

Macka,

30k will buy an excellent Porsche - but go to a decent specialist!

Porks that are cared for and serviced regularly will do very big miles!

993 is refined old school Porsche - involving, faster than the power output would indicate, phenomenal grip once you get used to having the engine in the rear, and brakes to die for!

996 is an excellent car, much more modern inside. Suspension is harder and not so well suited to British roads, it is also bigger all round and does not look so good (IMHO). C4S and GT3 II are both excellent cars but you will pay for it. Turbo is unreal - very fast indeed. As fast as Noble GTO across country and a lot more relaxing. Overall tho the standard 996 is more of a tourer than sports car and they are not as desirable.

A good early 996 is cheaper than a late 993, and 993s are depreciating a lot slower than 996s - shows you where the fans put their money - but of course I am biased.

Now if you had the money - a 993 turbo or a 993 RS are possibly two of the greatest drivers cars ever made - other than really silly money.

993's are super-schweet. But be aware that they cost more to run than 996's...ie servicing came down tonnes when the 996 was introduced. I want a 993 or the first GT3 (better suited to real world driving than the current one), but I'm just too damn sensible to buy one...and I don't have the garage space.
Bugger.
Colour..Silver or dark metallics are the easiest to sell..
Later Varioram engines a must.
Carrera 2 is the 'purest' one, and slightly faster/less understeery than the C4..the ideal drivers one without spending big bucks on a turbo/RS. The 993 C4S is amazing looking but widely regarded as poor handling and the dynamic runt if the litter. The 'targas' are cool, had a full glass roof and much improved from the 964s.
Oh and you *have* to get a 3-spoke steering wheel fitted if it's not there.

My bro has had an unfortunate encounter recently and he is retiring his scooby life,

he is ordering the top Toyota Rav 4, it looks nice fully loaded with all the body kit he's gone for black with black leather, and you'll get change out of 30k, and they aren't bad performance wise either, ok it's never going to be a scoob what else can be ? apart from an EVO or Skyline,

but they aren't bad cars
