PPP MY02 = PPP MY03 ?
#31
Prodrive state the car will lose around 25bhp when running on 95UL
20mins ago now, I picked up my new MY02 5dr, PPP. No proper idea about the performance yet, traffic on the M42 got in the way somewhat.
Incidentally, can't remember ever seeing a Red Mica MY02 5dr, then on the way from the dealers after picking mine up, another one trundles past me on M42. Wierd....
Happy Halloween.

I read it in a road test before I had the PPP fitted, but I'm sure Mike Wood told me too when I spoke to him, He was trying to source a PPPd WRX demo car for me to drive. The dealer told me as well once it was fitted.

Hi STi8 Mate
Still not sure that this is correct. I thought that the slight increase in power from MY01/02 to MY03 WRX was due to tweaks in the ECU, to optimise the MY03 for 97/98 RON fuel.
On the Subaru UK web site, it doesn't mention AVECS for the WRX, but it does for the STI8. I think the dealers don't know their a*se from their elb*w..... I'm still convinced that only the JDM spec WRX has AVECS (plus the STI7 and 8 of course).

Cheers Toonman. When I picked up my new PPP'd motor the dealer had put 95 in it. I've now run that tank down and fed it BP Ultimate.....hence my interest in your comment. Must be down to the ECU (?)

Hi Paul
I think the ECU retards when lower octane petrol's used, hence the drop in power. I remember it was the same with the original Saab 99 Turbo. You could run it on 2 star, but it was more powerful on 4.

The power figures etc are important but so is how the car feels. To make the decision you need to drive both car and see which you prefer. I’ve currently got an ’01 WRX wagon and am about to change it for an ’03 salon. When I brought the 2001 Wagon I also drove the ’03 and on the test drive didn’t notice the subtle differences. It’s only after driving the ’01 Wagon for 6 months that I picked up on the changes to the ’03. –for example a better ride from the suspension set up , more torque in lower gears, better seats (IMHO). However these are personal preferences my wife still prefers the 01. Just beware on test drives you will be so blown away by the car you miss the little differences between the models.
