Offical reply from GEMS UK is Steve Simspon is the man to talk to.
They have forwarded my enquiry on to him (I have also e-mailed him anyway).
He is on holiday just now but we should have a reply within a week say GEMS.

Hang tight people

Can you also contact Bob Rawle for a quote? I'm sure he'd like to do this and I for one would feel comfortable with him mapping my car, given his reputation with Subarus.

BTTT

What's going to be the deal with mapping these? Is someone lined up or is it a work it out for yourself job?

Exclamation

E-mails gone down today of all days

Not sure if Bob has replied, but will check in the morning again as I'm off out for the night.

Mapping will probably be included in the price in the group buy.
There are only a select few in the UK who can map the GEMS.
Bob and Steve are the only 2 I know of

From: West Sussex-Scoob stripped :( Hello Audi A6 4.2V8 Quattro :)
Talking

I am definately interested in a gems unit and I know of one other scooby owner who definately wants a gems unit, we've already contacted Steve Simpson, only enquiring on general prices, so this will give you a rough idea, also this is before any group discount.......
For early cars upto 96 ( I have a wrx95),you will need to buy a three bar map sensor to replace the two bar one...£60
And the gems unit, plus him fitting it and mapping the car, £1700.
For my mate who has a Terzo 98 (I think?) the price worked out to about £1600.....slightly cheaper than the early cars!!!!!
Then the last cost is about £60 to £65 in petrol for Steve to come anywhere in the country to map your car.The above also includes the anti-lag switch/option if you want it?
Hope this helps, The link from memory is around £1300 fully fitted so depends on what you can afford?
Cheers Kev.

Kev, mailed you twice but your email addy comes back invalid, apologies as I would not normally post in this way .. mail content pasted below.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, like for like the Link would cost £695 inc vat for the ecu and £350 inc vat for install and map, any additional cost comes from customer specific extras.
So total is £1045 inc vat supplied fitted and mapped as the retail.

many people talk about the £1200-1300 "Link" however, as you can see that is not the normal case.

cheers

What i could realy do with is somone to put down all the pro's & cons for the GEMS and the Link as im not sure if a GEMS will or will not be over kill for my car and what i want to achieve.
Im not intending to extract mega power from my "R". A ball park figure would be somthing like 300lb'ft, to get rid of the MAF and not worry about using O.B.
I dont want anyone to go to the agro of getting involved in a huge debate or anything, just the basics would be handy!

RB5 245

Thanks for pointing me in that direction
One things for sure, going with a FCD and Dawes is deffo out the question, i can see that ending in tears before bedtime!
From what i can make of that lot, the GEMS does seem to be highly favoured, especially from the people who have it.
Its downsides do seem negligable.
I still have to figure out if there is any real advantage in me using the GEMS over a Link for my application.
300lbft/330bhp will be my waterloo as i dont want/cant be bothered to get involved with pistons, rods, cranks ect.
Cheers Dave.

Gary, looks like you've got pretty much the same target as me.

What turbo are you using? boost pressure?

TMIC or FMIC? Water injetion? What exhaust system?

Sorry to steal the thread a little, Dave.

RB5-245, engine wise shes standard at the mo Dave which is a good atarting point i reckon, apart from a large Jap back box. standard boost 1 bar, turbo is the VF28.
Il possibly be looking at WI and the obligatory de-cat, the de-cat will only come probebly when im ready for the re-map or ECU as i cant be doing with boost spikes or leaning out and associated possible probs. Im hoping il get away without a FMIC as i reckon they can be a ball ache to get rite, (unless ya lucky) cant be doing with that either
