0800 access ISP?
#31
OK, I've just signed up to BT Internet and we're online lots - so guess what - nobody can phone us up and we can't tell if anyone's trying to ring us...and the answering machine is in the phone so no-one can leave a message
We'd normally be happy to drop the Internet call to answer the phone - so are there any gizmos/software that give you incoming call warning?
..and no, I don't want a second line. I believe BT will run an answering service for you for a few squid a quarter, but I've just spent loads on a cordless digital with answering machine. Doh.

Not much use to you but there are loads of free numbers in the US (well, local calls), and since some local calls are free there internet access is basically free...
e.g. freelane.excite.com
But none of that here? I've been looking for totally FREE access since I'm back in the UK for just a couple of weeks and need my scoobie bbs fix.

I have been told that there are ISPs around now that offer free calls 24/7, support dual channel ISDN and have no time limit??
Is this true and does anybody know of one?
Cheers
Simon
PS. Sorry it's way off topic!

Hi Simon,
Freeserve do a an unlimited free call and free ISP service for £10.00 per month and this applies anytime, day, night and weekends. Also they are planning a new fast line arrangement in conjunction with BT which will apparently vastly speed up the whole internet access, plus you will be able to use your phone simultaneously, all with the same line

Dean,
How to disable call waiting....
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:<HR>
Select the My Computer icon on the Desk Top, select the Dial-up Networking option, and select the connection used for your ISP. The connection properties should be displayed, click on the Dial Properties, and check the To disable call waiting, dial check box, and type #43# in the space provided.[quote]
