The Saxo VTS I saw on Friday didn't corner very well

Was about 100 yards behind a VTS full of teenage kids wanting a race - no way was I going to waste my fuel on them so I stayed back, and glad I did. One tight corner on a country road and the driver skidded out, over compensated, clipped the grass verge and rolled it a couple of times down the road. Damn lucky there was nothing coming the other way.

As with most tin cans the VTS crumpled pretty badly once upside down. They were lucky to get out with just cuts and bruises. I left them in the capable hands of the old bill

had a 172 (2003 not the cup) before my scoob (2003 STi + PPP).
Fun little car for the money loads of fun but then i got my scoob ...
... and goal posts moved
... would i buy another Clio .... no, for the money i'd find a older scoob
through the twisties you'd be hard pressed to lose a Clio (weight is the factor here) but on a straight the scoob will blow it away ... but just for the grin factor i'd take the scoob any day

I had an Integra Type R...wish I still had it, it was a lovely car, quick when you wanted it to be and very well built. Loved to be revved, I never had any trouble with it unlike the MY98 I have now.

A4 2.8 Quattro is miles slower than a scooby, understeers even more and wallows around due to it's weight, poor brakes and steering.

i love the way people talk about being able to keep up with scoobs in the saxo, 205 etc etc....

until you have actualy driven both (which some on here have) how the hell can you compare them. There totaly different driving styles for a start. you might have the scoob handeling down to a T, but then if you were to get into a FWC car straight after it, i doubt for 1 minute you could get in and use a VTS for example to its full potential.

The VTS is a quick nimble little car, the 172 or the 182 is more again. But dont you think this is more reflected in the price......

If i were to say how about, WRX Vs AUDI S4 (06 model), you would say your probs not far behind it, but the scoob would be the better option as you can buy one from motorpiont for a fiver..... is this not a similar kind of situation???

I have driven alot oif the cars in that list

Intergra Type R

Clio 182
BMW 328 Sport 330 not 328 though
Impreza Sport

Evo 3

Saxo VTS

and i have to say, also putting my own in there

306 RALLYE
MY05 WRX PPP
MY98 UK running at 292 ft/lb torque

The integra and the 306 would be my choice. more smiles per pound as well

Both of the above have good driver involvement, easy to drive quick and both feel alot more positive.

overall, it would be the ITR DC2, V-tech.... my word, what can i say, free reving all the way to 8,500 rpm is crazy and i like it. sounds amawing.

Only downside, its a little harsh to be living with as a day to day car....

So drop the silly comments on the saxo boys, just beacuse you have a SUBARU IMPREZA doesnt mean you have to look down your nose at everything with a smaller ticket price. unless its a pulsar GTIRotbox than you have my full approval lol

So I just pressed the POWER button on the auto gear stick and waited for the lights to change. The second they went to amber he was off, I just pressed the accelorator to the floor and let the car and gearbox do the rest, by the time I had reached 70 he was a good car length behind, at which point the road narrowed back down to one lane so I eased off back to the speed limit.

Now he probaly can not tell the difference between a turbo and a sport, so probably was thinking he did well to only end up one car length behind, but to be beaten by the grandad flat cap version of the sport He would not have lived that one down at school the next day.

Don't get me wrong I love having the auto box, and I reakon on the road it is faster than the manual, despite having a slower 0-60 time.

As for owning the sport in general, the handling in not quite that of a turbo when the sport is standard, but changing the wheels for 16" or bigger and geting eibachs and geometry done will bring it into the same ball park on the corners, but you will be left with some to make up on the straights. The difference is not as much as you think it might be.
I dunno, I reckon a VTS driven properly would quite easily keep up with you (Assuming yours is standard and it is a dry day). Also to add, not a lot of people know the difference between a VTR and a VTS looks wise. Also they do a 1.4 which is identical to the VTR/S styling wise apart from the alloys and badge.

I would also like to add I hate Saxo's, I owned a VTS for 2 weeks and had to chop it in because it was that nasty

I dont rate scoobs as the quickest cars around by far but i used to eat saxo's up in a series 2 rs turbo day in day out and my scoob does have alot more pull than the rs.. the burberry cap adds 20 bhp to a saxo tho!!!
