Okay, thanks for the replies
Would someone be able to post a pic of the BMW 330d mentioned, can't find a pic anywhere
I'm not gonna get into the Evo debate. For what its worth, I think they are a nice car, but the running costs are just ridiculous. For this reason I won't be getting one.
I DO like the STI8, and believe that you do get "plenty" of car for the 25k price tag.
However, the reason for the post is I'm still not 100% sure this is the car I want, and wasn't sure what else was on the market for this price tag.
Amount of doors is not important, although I do want a "performance" car. Seats isn't really important either I suppose. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Clio V6, which is also fairly high on the list.
Anyway, thanks for the replies and keep em coming.
No more Evo bashing though eh

The rumour about the rebuild comes from a Mazda salesmans (a good friend of mine). He also said that if you have a full Mazda service history they will do it for free! However he also added that they will look for any floor in that service history so not to pay. Once told this many pre orders have been cancelled and you can get one in three weeks! Like he said he would hate to own one due to residuals. He also did say that they are an excellent car.

I would get an STI 8 but i'm biased
However my brother has just got his Golf R32 and i've driven it a few times and I am really impressed its so much better than his S3's he had before that, its not as quick in a straight line or through the infamous twisties as the scoob but there is something about it that I really like

no "wittering" from me...just giving my opinion! Or is that not allowed if I like evos? If I had mentioned german cars you would have agreed with me and not called it "wittering"?????
And on the point of the evo not being an "all round" car. I too drive mine every day and the only problem would be the cost. As I have enough money to run the evo it is not a problem at all. My wife is not so sure on this point
The evo is my dream car...but obviously not everyones cup of tea!
My requirements were simple...(in no particular order)
1) must be fast enough for me in a straight line (sub 6 seconds 0-60)
2) dont want to see loads of them on the road
3) must seat 5 adults
4) good handling
5) sub £35k new car
6) within budget running costs.
That got rid of most of my short list cos they were 2 seaters or too slow. I was then left with scooby V Evo and the evo won easily as you dont see as many on the road.
We all have different requirements and the evo meets mine and surpasses all expectations after 12 months of trouble free ownership.
With 25k to spend on a new car, I would have got a CTR and kept change for a few years insurance.
Have fun with your choice of new car, and test drive all your short list. Take your pick and enjoy.

Here's a pic for you:
If you want any more information on the car, ask MattOz on here, as he's just got one, and it's really, really nice.

Agree with EVOfan but then im biased too. If I did high mileage I'd go for a 330d
Tiggs -car mags refers to your 'one trick pony' comment which is your opinion but not one shared by the motoring press in comparison with the STI8 genre.
To the query:
Other choices : CTR, R32, Seat, Renault V6, std scooby,VX220T
330d would need to be be 2nd hand at 25k
Drive them all and try an find unbiased opinions

Yeah, that BM looks fine and smart... but not as a sports car or a flash car or anything out of the ord. Sure its a great family or high mileage car with amazing quality and comfort. I thought he was looking for a performance car of some sort.

330d - a performance car of sort...
204bhp
0-60 7.2 sec
150mph top speed
410 Nm torque
all with a combined mpg of 42.8.... I'd rate that as a performance car.
Only problem is, you'd probably have to go abroad to get one for the £25k price limit.

lol- calm down evo boys.
buying a car because it goes quick but is a dubious all round car is like buying a tent in Henley-On-Thames because you heard that house buying was all about location-location-location!

"Tiggs - Easy to say here, have you read any car mags lately?"
err, no..i have never read a car mag in my life (seen some in dentists though?)....i have driven the cars though...it was a car he was after wasnt it? if this was a "what mag can i buy" post then i have take it all back!
