I agree that his driving style looks twitchy & not as commited as the old Stig but you cannot argue with that time in the Lambo on a wet track

Boro is absolutely right. The quickest way round a track is always the smoothest without all the hanging the front or back out, sawing at the wheel which only wears the steering out for nothing, and swapping from full throttle to idle etc. A good driver will anticipate the car's next move and will start putting a small correction in almost before it happens. All this screeching around is purely to try to impress and achieves very little. The man who can do this and really look good of course is Tiff, but he would be the first to admit that smooth driving is the key to a fast time.
Those who remember the really fast drivers such as Graham Hill, Jim Clark, and a real master, Jackie Stewart, will also know just how smooth they were. Damon Hill was similar. Watching Stewart at the old Woodcote Corner at Silverstone was amazing. From the stand you could see him absolutely flat through the corner, way faster than anyone else, and see his minor corrections just before the car moved out of line. There was a significant bump in the middle of the corner which was only apparent at F1 cornering speeds. It was also impressive to watch Jim Clark at North Tower Bend at Crystal Palace. he was so smooth and way faster than the others, especially Jochen Rindt who was usually sideways before he got there! Entertaining though.
I was not that impressed at the new Stig either.
I am rarely impressed by Clarkson, but he was right about Phil's beard

I agree the new stig does look twitchy but then he has only just started and that time in the lambo murcielago (sp) was impressive as a lot of other people have slagged the car off performance / handling wise. so maybe the car is twitchy on the limit ??. or maybe he's not use to 4wd.
what happened to the bike engined xtr that was faster than the zonda, its disappeard off the chart.

Drumsterphil,
How did you get tickets mate? I've put my name and the GF on that Applause website twice now and nothing back?
Do they pick people at random or what?
And I'm sorry VBH is lush and if you think she's too fat stop using yer fancy widescreen telly

Looks twitchy??
Don't you think your driving would be a little like that, driving on the limit in a Lambo? I've never even seen a Murciolago (sp), let alone driven one, but think how fast he was going....
I know he's supposed to be a professional driver, but I doubt it's that easy. Whether he looks bad or not, you can't argue with lap times
Bad driver indeed...

Q So who has a better time than the stig in the Lambo ??
The least impresive about the stigs run was how out of shape it was on the entry to the long sweeping tight righthander and how he panicked and didnt hold that in a slide, that could have looked awesome, instead it looked rubish.
I wrote to top gear last year, asking them to put an STi Spec C up against the EVO and STi8 PPP and to investigate why we pay more in the UK for lower spec cars than the japanese and USA get, and also to do a bit on how the older generation cars like the STi5RA are quicker than the new cars, I also asked to have a go at the track in my own car. They didnt reply.
