Just a small point for those who don't want to tell the insurance man and own a 97/98, taken from the PE website mentioned on the first page...

For 97-98 UK model cars, we use an additional board which fits into your ECU and allows us access to the complex software inside
IE. if they know what they are looking for and check, they'll see and you'll be up **** creek

I've now pulled out of the GEMS group buy, and am now considering either this one..or the Link ECU..

I'll keep you updated.

Cant go wrong with the PE phase/tek2. They program it to your cars mods and your requirements. Basically its what some tunners call a Tek3. PE said that the TEK3 dont recognise the termanology Tek3 so thats why they use Tek2. Also you wont get any problems that you will with the link/gems as these are general ECUs designed for lots of cars. Meanwhile the one supplied by Subaru in your car is designed for your car and all the sensors it uses.

If you are not sure contact Robert at PE. Number on their website.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Just been to PE and had great results. Chris did a fantastic job on the car. Power increased by 31 bhp and torque a whopping 41 lb/ft.

Great job

Sorry to barge in here but I've got an MY00 Impreza and was wondering what sort of benefits would I get by having this done to my car?

I've got a d/pipe and de-cat and for chrimbo I'm buying her an Induction kit and maybe a DV. Now I know the filter and DV won't make any big difference but should I do this first before the re-map?

Also, if on 97/98 cars PE use a daughter board, do they do the same for MY00 meaning its easily seen by insurers if they take the top off the ECU?

Sorry for the questions but might have some cash just after christmas.

TIA

Edd

Acording to PE website you should gain about an extra 30bhp, + gains in torque.
I think with your ecu, they can just plug in and play, so there will be no visible signs of an upgrade.

I dont think the dv would make any difference to the mapping,
but the air filter would.
If you are interested in the group buy, why not give pe a phone call or drop them an e mail to clarify this.

If you are interested, then e mail neal as per profile.
You could arrange to take part in the group buy, but get your car re-mapped in the new year when you have your new parts fitted.

Hope that helps

Hi all

Johnny, I am not at home or work until Friday so I can not read any mail until the

Blue Scoop, nice one mate many thanks for posting your results. Did you get a rolling road print out ? If so any chance of seeing the results, either by digital pic or scan !!!

Edd, get your Zaust and induction sorted first so your remap will benifit from the better breathing !!!! With this done you will be looking at STi figures plus a few lbf torque more.

cheers

Neal

To all potential upgraders

I have had an ecu remap and filter done by Power Engineering and I would like to say that they were absolutely fantastic. I have never spent a better £600 plus (or whatever it was?)I strongly recommend anyone to go for it.

The car felt completely different afterwards and so much power!!!

I would strongly recommend upgrading the springs (which I did) on a basic 01 wrx. This gives the car proper control and increases the enjoyment. The basic Subaru setup is completely inadequate (Don't mention the crap lights - How do they get away with them!)

After the initial remap the car developed a fault which was nothing to do with Power Engineering - but because I was nearby I limped in and they diagnosed a dealer error on recent servicing and upgraded the cars power again! They gave me a choice of changing boost by pressing the rear window demister (Totally James Bond!)I was charged -but a very nominal amount..

(Apologies to PE as I did say I would do a testimonial on this site a long while ago)

Thanks Matt, you'd better get your name down because you know 300 is well within reach

Perhaps I'll wait until the closing date for this has passed so your forced to pay full price

Well, the car started out with Vf28 turbo, Tsl downpipe, decated center and group N backbox. The itg was replaced by a massive custom fit K+N cone filter.

The first run was basically cr@p only 260bhp
Second run had a base map done from similar mods and got
297bhp and 265lbs/ft

I thought that was it but Chris made a few tweaks and ended with...
309bhp at 6175rpm and 285lbs/ft torque at 4100rpm

The best thing is I get 270lbs/ft torque at just little over 3000 revs
The difference is just amazing....worth the hard earned notes

Hi all can i just ask a couple of questions, where abouts is PE? as i'm in North Wales and wondered how far it was, and when is the latest this group buy will go on to? the reason i ask is i have an M.O.T due in the new year and wanted to get that out of the way before i put on my downpipe, then i would be interested in getting this re-map. I was going to go for the tek postal map but this possibly sounds a touch more accurate.

Cheers James.

Hi Neal,

Thanks for the info mate, i think i am defo gonna be joining up for this one, i was trying to get hold of a postal tek 2 map second hand but at this price this seems like the better option, and i can get around the missus by booking us into a hotel down there for a couple of months.

The cheque would need sending to you i guess, who does it need to be made out too? and can i pay more than £60 as a deposit?

Cheers James.
