You must take your time to grieve properly.... but don't be ashamed to move on.... its what Shrimp would have wanted!

He has probably been reincarnated as a youthful prawn at the local pet shop just waiting for you to come and buy him!

Mary Rose can be made using tomato sauce and salad cream, bit of salt and pepper and lemon juice...

Sorry about the tragic news and just remember the good times, it should help you over the grieving process.

workshy_fopp - Salad cream works and surprisingly well! It is also better for you than the egg overdose that is mayo!

Seriously it does work my Mum is allegic to eggs (some people) so we had to come up with an alternative!

cool, nice Oscar!

I can recomend piranha, they have very quircky personalities and don't deserve the bad reputation at all, they are very shy in reality.

Here are my 5 little trouble makers:-

Thanks! Here is a pic of the whole tank...

There aren't any real problems as such... the main things to look out for are:-

* when they are very small (i.e. less than 3") they need feeding twice daily

* fin nipping is always an issue, the fish are a bit territorial and they like their personal space. They recommend 80ltrs per fish for adults, but still expect bickering between them. My ones constantly squabble over one end of the tank - why that end is any better than the other end I don't know! I have had to physically break up a scrap on one occasion!

* the occasional disaster can happen, if one fish is weakened or is wounded significantly you need to get it out or it will become tea! This is more likely when mixing genuses of piranha, or putting piranha in with another species!

* Don't expect them to be water boiling killers. They are shy by nature and when they are not particularly hungry they often won't eat with people watching them, it really depends on their mood. One day they can be chilled, the next they can go mental at the slightest movement - bouncing off the glass, knocking things over, the works!

* Water quality is paramount. Piranha are very hardy and heal extremely quickly... after a nip one of mine just grew back half its dorsal fin in about 6 days, but they depend on very good water quality and that means good biological filtration - especially considering that they are very messy eaters and prolific poo-ers! I am running 2 filters in my tank to make sure! I also do a 30% water change/gravel vac weekly.

* It sounds weird, but pirhana "sleep". You need to try and make sure the tank lights go on and off at the same time daily. When it goes dark they will swim around a bit, find a comfortable spot to float in and go into a kind of trance. If they aren't allowed to get this rest you can end up with some very stressed out fish! Also, if they are rudely awakened they tend to go mental, I turn on the room lights for a while before turning on the tank lights.

Thats all I can think of for now, they are fairly hard work but very rewarding. When I sit in the chair next to the tank and they come over and give me a big toothy yawn it makes it all worthwile!
