Was it a E36 M3-or M3 EVO,or an E46----or in other words what age was it.
Ive just sold an M3 EVO,and have to say that when its "on song" its definately faster that my 01 scoob, but the scoob REALLY gains on its traction.
I personally would have a scoob over a M3 anyday because of the pure grin factor though![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Dare i say it,i even think the new age has fairly good build quality, even compared to the M3 EVO!

Erm, Spec C ***** on an M3 - test after test and objective times.
Under 140mph, its bye-bye german barge![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Incidentally, I had a run in with an M3 yesterday, J-Reg (289bhp?) - I was pulling away (nothing bigtime) from him in 2nd and 3rd, then ran out of road.

Franko,
You probably have just over 300 bhp, I think the M3 is 340bhp? The M3 weighs a lot more, but then the scoob has wwd loss. I think it would be closer than people think. I went in my boss's M3 the other day, and wasn't blown away with it in sport mode.
Think the STi4 0-60 is 4.7? Nick a tiny bit off dor having a decat. Not sure on the M3.
He may have been running it in though?!![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

J-reg?! E30 then was it?
E46 M3 has 343bhp... 0-100mph in 11 seconds. Need a fairly swift Scooby to pull "30/40 meters" on one to 120mph!! Sounds like it was a 325Ci to me
Or maybe a 330Ci if your Scoob ain't standard ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Chris, if we're going to be pedantic (
) the latest copy of "Evo" has the M3 CSL doing a 0-100 in 10.9 seconds, with 60 coming up in 4.5 seconds. One of the other monthly mags had the normal E46 M3 down as 11 point something to 100 (can't remember which, sorry).
I've never seen a J plate E36 M3 (not saying they don't exist though!)

I used to rave about M3s being the best and how I'd love to own one, they were a dream car for my fantasy garage. I wish I'd kept it as a dream because after driving the latest model it was a bit of a disapointment. Sure it was fast but not blisteringly quick, certainly not worth the pain of spending that much money on one.
I can believe that a mod'd scoob can take a badly driven one and perhaps give a well driven one a close run.

I was in my 94 uk Impreza classic, which i wrote off on friday morning.I hit some black ice on a bend and span out,it was a good job there were no cars coming towards me in the other lane.I ended up smashing into someones front garden pillar, well, the first one span me round and the back end hit the second pillar. My car is a total wreck.I had just spent around £1000 on wheels and seats, absolutely gutted.
Well,i dont care about the M3 argument anymore cos i will be drivin around in a mk2 fiesta from now on and the only thing i will be racing is Mrs Thompson on her electric wheelchair!

being flat out in 4th means you were doing 120mph? that is a silly speed to race an M3 at! a well sorted scooby only seems to give an m3 a run for its money to 80 (or first three gears), beyond that forget it (unless you have a Spec C
)! that's why i only race in the first three gears, because thats where the fun is at ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I know my STi8 will give a NEW M3 (four **** pipes, he werent goin anywhere and yes, he was trying on some really tight (private) roads)a hard time. But the point that we are all missing is... He paid about £50,000 for the abillity to get troubled by a car worth HALF that!!!!????? Makes him a bit of a mug in my book.

Maybe the M3 driver valued his driving license, i know i wouldn't go more than 30mph above a speed limit unless i new the road was safe to do that, i couldn't afford to be banned from driving for 6 months (which is automatic at 30 or more above a speed limit)
Why dont you stop all the bragging and settle it by organising a trackday between yourselves and the M3 drivers??? and while your at it why not invite a bike mag along so they can embarrass you all, as they did to EVO mag (December 2003).

Little Clanger,
Very shortly expect a post from one of the usual M3 fan club (who hang around all the time on a Subaru board - go figure) telling you that the M3 is a more complete car and other such b0llocks.
Just thought I'd let you know what you're in for.![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Having sold my 330 sport earlier this year and bought my first Scoob I know which car really is "The Ultimate Driving Machine" and it doesn't start with B![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
I've had a little play with two M3s one on track one on a road (private of course). On track I beat the BMW hands down. The BMW was frustrated as he couldn't use the power to it's best as I was too quick thru the bends and my car had better traction. In the afternoon however, I did have to let him past as my tyres had gone and I was then the one struggling to keep up. Still 4 out of 6 sessions aint bad![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
On the Private road he just couldn't handle the twistys like I could and backed off. The sad part is he cut across another driver to get to race me. I know I shouldn't have bothered but the temptation was just toooooo much![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
In summary as I've owned countless BMWs including both the M3 and M5 nothing compares to the thrill of a Scoob at full chat. There is not a huge amount of difference between the cars and driver skill often is the deciding factor.

Tiggers, dont worry my freind, I have broad shoulders and can take the "german cars are best" bull-****. I know Scoobs loose a little power through the transfer to 4-wheel drive, but, going to the dizzy heights of STi8 with PPP, I fail to see how 340bhp through THE BACK WHEELS ONLY can be better than 305ish through 4. Sure, on an air field there are a number of (more expensive) cars that will duff the scoob but A to B accross country? Assuming driver skill is the same, I very much doubt it. We all know but may not admit this (beemer clones wise up). I strongly beleive that the ONLY thing in the price range or not that is a serious contender is Mitsi EVO and Skyline (although v. heavy and a bit more of a handful at the limit on bends (and yes, I have experience of this))
Also, I have yet to drive a normally aspirated performance motor that has given me as much of a grin as a turboed lump.
Finally, S Page. You are wrong mate. There is no automatic ban for speeding - only totting up (and this does include speeds in excess of 100mph). If you can show that a ban would bring undue hardship (i.e. loosing your driving job meaning no food on table for wife and little Johhny) you wont get one. The ban is never AUTOMATIC. Check this up in Road Traffic Act if you wont have it. I am right, this is not what I heard from turkish John down the pub but lets not divert the thread, I want the beemer boys to get on board.
