easiest way to tell a pukka M3 is by the exhaust backbox. Very big and ribbed (on all except E46 which has two lots of two, a bit like a big german wheel barrow). But then again, you are more likely to see an M3 in your RVM. (tee hee, off we go again)

And another thing to keep the furher wagon boys silent. I gave an E36 M3 a SERIOUS fright in a (get this) MG Montego Turbo. OK the monty was tuned. Carb fiddled with, IC fiddled with, huge exhaust, induction tampered with AND turbo pressure up to 27psi (cost about £250 to do). 282bhp at the flywheel. Beemer gimp went straight to the dealers for a service I reckon. I bet I get called a liar for this. I will admit, it didnt like going round any type of bend, or stopping but in a line, once grip obtained, v. fast (done a few scoobs n all). I hate M3's. They are the typical "walk into a wine bar and throw your keys on the bar to impress" saying "my car is fast even if it never gets driven above the speed limit".

Heh, though I love my Scoob dearly (and it's predecessor) and consider it one of the best cars I've ever driven, if I find myself more flush (or the company car tax situation gets sorted) I'll be back in an M3 quicker than you can say "dankescheun". In an ideal world I'd have both though

If you hate the M3 out of hand, you've probably never driven one
If you hate the M3 because of some of the nobbers that drive them, you're sad and/or jealous

dunno who thats aimed at deano, but it cant be me. I aint jealous and I could certainly afford an M3 (E46 not some 6-year old service-historyless mank tank). Paid cash for my 03STi and only use it once every couple of weeks (its strictly a toy). I didnt want to combine two purposes in one car. I bought two cars instead.

I still dont like BM's

It was really just a light hearted comment to see if I could get anyone to bite, and maybe start justifying themselves. Good job nobody did

Seriously, everybody has the right to like/dislike something, but to point blank say M3s are complete sh*te ranks along with the trolls who come to SN and say the same thing about Imprezas - just another group who don't know what they're talking about. Maybe I just can't be doing with the sort of small minded people who make generalisations

Little clanger i was talking from experience not from anything "Turkish John" has said at the pub, 2 of my work mates have had 6 month bans imposed on them in the past and we drive 30-40 thousand miles a year to our different clients, so the little jonny and food on the table and driving essential for job plea didnt work for them, a couple more have got off lighter with only 56 day bans, luckily our employer has been good and given my work mates clients they can visit via public transport but they have now changed the rules and it is now counted as gross misconduct with loss of job.
My personal experience was from what i was told by a traffic cop when i was caught doing 89mph in a temporary 30mph limit in road works on a dual carriageway, he told me anything over 30mph of any limit would put me in court and from his experience all had been given upto 6 month bans and very large fines, lucky for me it was 7.30 am on a bank holiday monday and as no one was working in the road works and there was no else on the road he let me off with a fixed penalty notice for £40 and 3 points (lucky it wasn't a speed camera that caught me). Maybe the Traffic Cop was trying to scare me. That bank holiday weekend was a bad one got stopped by police 3 times but lucky to only get 3 points.

Sokay deano, no offence taken. I respect Beamers but do not like them. I have a few freinds who drive them and I have driven their cars. Yes they are nice but I am told by their owners that after sales service needs much to be desired. They are arguably over priced to buy and service and build quality is not what it was (although not to say they are badly put together). I was never keen on the statement they made about the owner. I believe most who buy them beleive it to be a passport into some exclusive "club". Very pretentious.

S. Page, sadly, I speak with experience as well (from both sides of the law). I was banned for going over 100mph on motorway, and have studied law at a few different levels for 61/2 years. Unless you are really naughty (89mph in a 30 is pushing it) there can be a light at the end of the tunnel (although a no-ban punishment will result in a mega heavy fine instead). Best not chancing it in the first place, especially in your line of work.

Glad to hear it - I never meant to cause any offence

I suppose the way I look at it is that a great car is a great car, no matter who makes it (or how much it costs). Whether one great car is worth £25,000, or even £125,000 more than another is something only people with £120,000 cars have the luxury to be certain about

I agree with you about some people assuming their car gives them some sort of image boost - that's back to what I was saying about people who come to SN slagging off Scoob drivers for having a "superior attitude", and the way we often reinforce that with our snobby comments. I think in some peoples perceptions BMW and Scoob owners might not be that different.

I'd never let a driver stereotype put me off a great car though, some people seem to, and that's what I'm really having a moan at

Each to their own or it would be a very boring world.
P.S I bet I get more smiles to the pound in my 9k scoob than anyone in their 40k M3.
Would have an E30 M3 on classic insurance if I couldnt afford the scoob.
