talizman if a muaythai boxer went into a grapple i would have thought the average street fighter would more than likely end up knock out, either by a knee or an elbow.
mauythai is probably one of the easyer arts to learn as there is'nt alot of moves, like in kung fu etc so it probaly easyer to pick up.

Just take a look at UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). No rules fighting. Nearly all fights go to the floor within seconds and its then down to knowing how to twist parts of your opponents body to maximum effect. The best people are the jiu jitsu types.

Not sure where in Kent you are W69 but theres a cracking teacher, Guru Lee Banda who does private lessons for £25 a go which you can split with upto 3 other people. He does Jeet Kune Do, Escrima (stick fighting) and a few others.
I'd personally recommend the Jeet Kune Do which is a form of self defence 'good for the streets' cos it teaches you grappling moves. As most 'street' fights end up on the floor this IMO is the best form of self defence. None of that Karate 'crap' - thats no good to you once you're on the floor is it!
I've seen quite a few displays from this guy and hes top drawer - he can black someone out in under 4 seconds and I've also seen him defend himself against 6 much larger blokes during another display. He was Escrima World Champion in the mid nineties (95 / 96??)
He used to own the ICE gym in Tonbridge with that Karl Crompton bloke that won £9m on the Lottery.
If you like I'll get hold of an email address or mobile number if you like as I going to be contacting him about having lessons for my daughter and myself very soon.

I'm biased because I've done Tae Kwon Do for over half my life, so I'll always recommend it, but....
For all round self defence there is no definitive answer as to what art is better.
For street fighting, my advice would be to study a few arts and combine their strong points into a "Mixed Martial Art" and see where that gets you.

Muay thai incorporates full upper body contact plus lower body contact eg, knees, kicks, using the heel etc. Far more appropriate for modern day life, its more like a street fighting style.

Scooby96 the gym, never had any problems with Lee, only chatted to him a couple of times, my sister knew him and his mates at the time. Didn't get on too well with the gym though and wasted a whole years membership on just a couple of visits and they wouldn't let me cancel

Or you could get out on a mountain bike like I started doing recently - all I need is one of those farmer giles pillows to sit on everyday at work

God now everyone knows jujitsu. There was a time when only the elites have it. Oh well, time to look for the next level. Perhaps I'll learn how to do the secret Kamehameha technique.
