Personal websites quite often list all the valuable items installed in a car, audio, mods etc. The last thing I would want to do is inform a wouldbe thieft what's in my car ! I spend time making my audio 'stealth' so that it sounds great but isn't obvious. Why bother if I'm gonna advertise the contents on my website ?
That's why I blank out my plates.

If I wanted a clone plate for a Subaru where might I go first ? How about www.subaru.co.uk, you don't even need to squint at the pic they state them in text.
It's the same reason I have decent home security. It's not impossible to break into my home, but it's a darn sight easier to break into next door.

I would have thought its to stop cars being identified by thiefs cos they've got:
a) a nice big ice install
b) they know it hasnt got an alarm, tracker, stop lock etc
c) they get an idea where the car is parked and can identify said car from its reg plate

I think most people do it to prevent the car being identified, for various reasons, one being theives. If you take a picture of your car, parked in your driveway, and your plate is shown, and the location of where you are happens to be mentioned, it would be rather easy for said scum to come up and nick your car. OK, a bit extreme of an example, but I think it's a good one.
The other factor could be due to warranty or insurance issues. you may have modified or tracked your car, but not told insurance company or dealer. Therefore if your dealer or insurance company happened to look on here, and see your reg number, and you make a claim, they could void it as they would have possible evidence to prove you had invalidated your policy or warranty.
