i think everyone (both ssc and scoobynet peeps) agree's that under no circumstances is a standard vts going to beat (<- not keep up with but BEAT) a standard scoob turbo.
But, having now owned a VTS and a modified classic Impreza (and driven many other scoobys) I can categorically say that the difference isn't as much as you'd all hope (especially between vts/bugeye). I have also noticed that a lot of peeps on this board (which you all know I love ) do sadly seem to think that standard scoobys are massively quick. They are not, I've got one! Only 10 minutes ago I was accelerating hard from 20-100mph coming off a roundabout and its by no means untouchable - its positively lame compared to when it was modded
I know you're all thinking, 'SB's banging the Saxo Drum' again but thats not really the point I'm trying to make. I'm just trying to make the point that some of us seem to think that standard UK scoobys take a giant dump on the entire hot-hatch platoon. This is a flawed attitude IMHO

On the subject of UK vs Jap Scoobies, there is definately a world of difference. I test drove both and the misses swore she would never get in the car with me again if I had the Jap import. Damn so why did I buy the UK turbo lol

Sorry to bring it up, but the M3 debate is a prime example. When my car was standard, my mates M3 Evo made me feel like I was going in reverse...Now I can put up a good fight to 80-90.

The thought did cross my mind, but not been able to find what I was looking for. Am happy with the UK for now, it does the job. Besides it could be messy peeling the dog off the back windscreen in a jap one!

It seems a few of us have had VTS's myself included
They are good cars, But apart from the Idle problem. Had to keep going back to Citroen for a new map upgrade every month!!
The VTS is very nippy. But it would not beat a scoob.
Rob.

I had series 1 R98 VTS. I think there were a good few people with the same problem back then. Citroen could not find the problem. Instead we all used to go to our local citroen garage when they called us with a new download was available.
The revs used to go up and down when idleing 500rpm to 1900rpm
up/down up/down.

Hi lads, its the chap who started this thread on the SSC here. I had no idea it would be such a popular topic of conversation!!!
Believe me i was as flabbergasted as you lot to learn that i had a VTS beating imprezza, so after a hard day in the world of kitchen sales and having faced a torrent of abuse from the SSC and Scooby net i decided to take the car round to my uncles house, who owns a 01 scooby WRX import to test my theory that my rather nippy 130 bhp VTS could infact live up to my claim of "BEATING AN IMPPREZZA EVERY TIME". Against my uncle we had numerous 0-100 try outs on the A413 and while he obviously had me off the line i was always right on his tail and could overtake him after the ton mark.
so whilst not being able to "BEAT" off the line every time i still feel this car is more than capable of racing and beating an imprezza should the need arise.
Thanks for reading

What i don't understand is that these "saxo" guys say they can't afford a scooby etc but then spend £10-20K on modding their cars to make them faster (still only worth £5k when they come to sell them), why not just spend the money on a faster car?
Can't wait to hear about the first citroen C2 vtr owner bragging about whooping a scooby or the likes, especially with a 0-60 time of 9.5 sec's, mind you they could beat a scooby sport.

LOL @ beating a scooby to 100mph Even without a launch and crap driving a bugeye will still do 0-100mph in 18s. A good vts on a good day might make 19 dead. As for passing after 100mph dream on!!! The VTS very noticeably runs out of puff after 95/100mph.

I had a VTS a few years ago and completely standard it did the 1/4 mile at the Pod in 15.94. Which I reckons quite good. I had a right laugh in it...till the head gasket went...... A Turbo'd VTS will do 1/4 mile in approx 14.5 I believe. Only 200'ish bhp but weighs nothing.

You can do better than 15.9 Also a 200bhp saxo should be able to do better than 14.5 no problem but its got a lot to do with the driver as putting that power down won't be easy

No its faster than that...what I'm saying is you could make a total cods piece of it and still put in a faster time than a saxo. The only chance a vts has of looking respectable is to play with a bugeye from a rolling start where 4wd is a hinderance rather than an advantage
