Make's you want to buy a Saxo !

ello sir_neemz,
I suggest you get out from behind the scoob (see above for reference) and tell your Uncle to:
a) start trying
b) stop humouring you
c) try harder
d) carry on after 100
Yes you can beat anyone in a road race as there are people who give a damn about laws/public safety etc and will back off...
I dont think you quite grasp the concept here. You can only beat an Impreza if:
a) we let you
b) we hit something
c) something breaks
d) we have a couple of hundred weight of concrete blocks in the boot that you cant see, thus thinking you have beaten an Impreza in a fair race
e) you decide to break the law and go over the speed limit to justify your "beating" when infact you've already been beaten to the limit and you're just taking a little too far in an attempt to prove your totally pants point: "VTS Beats IMPREZZA every time".
Have fun,
~Jules
PS. I have nothing against Saxo's
Edited coz BBS codes are pants

The highest speed ever achieved on a bicycle is 268.831 km/h (167.043 mph), by Fred Rompelberg (The Netherlands) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA, on October 3, 1995. His record attempt was greatly assisted by the slipstream from his lead vehicle.

so whilst not being able to "BEAT" off the line every time i still feel this car is more than capable of racing and beating an imprezza should the need arise.

I can't believe you lot are still humouring him, I bet he's pissing himself reading through these 5 pages so far.
There is absolutely no way that a Saxo VTS with the only modification being an induction kit could overtake a Subaru WRX (import with speed restrictor taken off) at 100mph if they were both racing.
That is fact, end of story.

right...i think we all know what the result will be...but..it think the suggestion of sir_neemz turning up at the next meet to show his mythical warp powered vts "BEATING EVERYTIME" the scoobs is a good one.
what say you sir_neemz?

guys dont label saxo owners geeks because, well , most of them arent. at the age of most of them are its impossible to insure most other things and rest assured the guy that posted that thread on the ssc got absolutely ripped to pieces, as people always do when sh*te like that is posted...
but... by and large i reckon more ****e is talked on here that any other forum i have ever been on, mostly because you seem to have a 'im driving an impreza, im king of the road, nothing is faster, nor pulls more women and makes me look hard' attitude. and whenever i post anything at all on here i always seem to get some ars*hole posting a 'wity' remark about it, seemingly jealous that a 18 year old 'geek' may have a nice car. i apologise to all you reasonable guys on scoobynet who do give reasonable responses to questions but there does seem to be populated by a load of d*ckheads and i would love to see the heaps of sh*ite most of you lot were drivinbg at 19-23 years old.. enough said

I have just read this topic and find it funny yet insulting. I know the VTS is a quick little hatch but beating a impreza in the wet and near 70-100mph mark! No chance. It also seems a little harsh on the bug-eyed impreza which i have recently purchased. previous car Pug 106GTI. Same mould as the VTS). I know the Bug-eye doesnt rate well against Imports or Modded impreza's but to consider it in the same breath as a standard VTS? Dry or Wet? Hmmmm.

Assuming 20s dead to 100 for the MKII VTS and 7.5 to 60 that gives a 60-100 time of 12.5s
The bugeye 0-100 time is about 17s and with a 0-60 of 6 that gives a 60-100 time of 11s
Thats a difference of just 1.5s from a rolling start which is pretty close. If you also factor in that these figures are derived from a situation where the scooby is launching and thus gaining a disproportionate(sp?) speed covered v distance covered (at the start) and you'll apprecaite that on the road the difference won't be that much (in distance terms) at all.
I realise that last paragraph isn't well explained and I don't have the physics knowledge to help so look at it this way: When modified my scooby would do 0-100mph in about 12.5-13s. In a 1/4m event I would travel a 1/4m BEFORE an E46 M3 and with a terminal speed of 103mph. The M3 however would at the exact instant I crossed the line being doing nearer 108-110mph and would be closing in fast. This is a perfect example of how 4wd can **** up the time figures relative to the distance travelled and is exactly why from a rolling start the 1.5s time difference will be even less as a distance difference. I a) hope you understand and b) hope a physics buff doesn't prove me wrong

My girlf's got a standard P Reg VTS. (And I even drove it to work today as the wagons betting a bumper repsray).
I would agree that £'s for Smile's, the VTS is actually pretty good value.
But I don't think that its up there with the imprezza in anyway. It's good for a nice comfy 90+ cruise, but the acceleration does not blow me away. (Driving it home from Warwick when we'd bought it I did half wonder why I'd spent £13K and she'd only spent £2,300, Its a chicks car, but its nippy enough round town.)

'It also seems a little harsh on the bug-eyed impreza which i have recently purchased'
unlucky...at least a vtr/vts looks nicer than a buggered (the amusing slang for the model) scoob...mind you...nova sri's with genertic lump of fibreglass #3983472.1 thrown at them look nicer than the bug eyed ones.
id sell it to warp drive vts (sir_neemz) boy before he gets intelligence (could be some time) and buy a nice looking scoob.
its like...having an RB28DETT inside a nova.

Glad to hear some sensible arguments comming from the saxo chaps, was expecting a virtual brawl!
Saxo's are a fab car, they remind me of the origina mrk1 golf GTI affordable performance for the masses, I have driven one, and 1.61 6v does pack some punch, chassis nice too. If you wanna buy new, then there isn't much you could get cheaper seems they through in free insurance as well. But personally I would rather spend that money on a second hand jap monster!
Dont trust french build quality.

Dont worry about saxo`s, its those new gsi astra turbos, with a re map, scoobs where awsome when they came out, std uwe already have....
civic type r 197 bhp
astra gsi 200 bhp
A3`s
Audi tt`s 225
Golf r32
and so on
Skoda at 175 i think,
The above will go well into the 200 bhp zone with no or little mods,
Scoobs are not that light also

Shall we end this whole stupid arguement here?
Saxo equals diddlysquat as far as an Impreza is concerened. Even quoting stupid mods on either side there is no contest and never should have been.
Give it up... I have been feckin bored to tears for days because I have not yet found a way to turn of email support for this feckin thread let alone the other 200 I recieve daily. Im visiting my profile now to see if I can turn it off.... which I doubt as this forum ensemble is from the Ark!
Call me hormonal by all means but enough is surely enough.
He says they are good you say they are ****e.. then meet the fu cker and sort it out once and for all!

Yep. yep. yep. Played with a supercharged saxo in my my00 classic uk a while ago (no power mods to mine save ss zorst), he had 2sec's head start and he did pull well at the start. I changed up early from 1st (say 5k rpm ish); still had him by the time we were getting near 60-70ish.

If you are prepared to spend the money you can make most things go quick.
I know someone who builds customer Beatles, these things are doing standing 1/4's in something like 12 seconds...
But the engine mods are possibly £10K !
But a 40 year old car doing 12 second 1/4s is something to see.

Oh yeah - U can tune bugs up very nicely. Had one as my first car, bored out to 1800, twin webbers, extractor zaust etc. Not a mega machine but enough to fly up and down the motorway and surprise a few people in the outside lane (most people are used to seeing a bug doing 50 in the inside lane).
Guy who did mine had a beach buggy that he used to run at Santa Pod, OK it weighs about the same as a wet dish cloth but that really used to fly.

You know the really funny thing about scoobynet is that the women (I'm sort of pointing at soulgirl here ) tend to be the most deluded about Impreza's and think they are some sort of supercar and hot-hatches are ONLY for spotty 17yo boys I remember AJ thought they sucked as well until I convinced her to test drive one! Just the other day eClaire told me she'd rather have a classic shape scooby (standard) over an e46 M3 Women
The scooby is a low end, cheap, poorly built four door saloon with lots of bangs for bucks. The saxo is a low end, cheap, poorly built, 3 door hatch back with lots of bangs for bucks. The TVR cerbera is a low end, cheap, poorly built, supercar-coupe with lots of bangs for bucks - in this regard they can be mentioned in the same breath as they all have something in common

All in your opinion of course, but then you must be bias with a username with Saxo in it! Does this mean you own one?
It's not all about the power of a car anyhow, its what they look like that inspires you to buy a scooby. Well for me anyhow.
If i wanted a small pocket rocket then i'd buy Yaris VVTI thingy as i think they look nice, plus they aren't all over the place with Neon lights and sun strips that read MAX POWER or the like. Saxo's have had a tarnished image because most seen have boy'd up trick bits on them. Most i've seen crawl accross the floor and have boom boom coming from them with what i would call kids wearing baseball caps twisted sideways on their heads! All you see from the rear view is them tailgating you trying to prove something, totally sad imo. Standard saxo's are nice cars.

It can be a struggle to tell if Saxos and the like are actually trying.
Even if I don't drop two gears and use part throttle I still can't tell if they are trying!

Danny its not an argument.
John your car doesn't count - it can kill saxo's using just 4th gear!
So do scoobys Yes my name is saxo boy and yes I owned a standard VTS which was a brilliant car. I now own an MY99 impreza which is also a brilliant car. I won't hear a bad word said about either of them
