Too harsh Rich - this is a great thread ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Scuba - a suggestion for you. Check out the next track day that Mr Felstead is doing and come along for a ride. You are picking on the wrong guy. I've known John for a couple of years and it has been my privilege to have been driven by him on a few occassions (including a few nutty laps of Donington in his old turbo-charged Cosworth Westfield
).
John as a completely self taught driver is one of the most skilled I know. He will show you how to drive a car properly and put to bed once and for all, the notion that because one car has more bhp than another, it is somehow better or quicker. Put John back in his old non-turbo sport and pick just about any car on this board - on a track, my money would be on John every time.
I've also been out with John in his RA - a truely mind blowing car when driven by somebody who really knows what they are doing.
My point is say that whatever car on paper 'looks' better because of its figures is daft when so much has to do with driver ability. A P1 is a stunning car, make no mistake and to be honest, just about anyone with a reasonable level of car control can drive it at speeds that will leave most cars lagging well behind. It takes real skill to extract the full potential of any car, even more so from a real high performance car such as a P1 or Spec C.

Don't know whether anyone else notices, but the later model shapes, don't really draw any attention at all compared to the classic. My '98 car still attracts as many looks and positive comments today as it did 3 years ago, whereas the later shapes sort of just....well, blend. From Mk 1 the real Scooby legend sort of died really, to leave a car that had to tussle with the CTR's, Cupra R's etc, where as previously it would have blown them away, to be compared to M3's, and go on to worry all sorts of exotica on a rainy day. From this I would suggest that the true height of any Scooby ownership would be the 22B. It's the "right" one, from PS2 to street. Cutting through the performance figures, it's more than enough go for most posters here, and combined the individuallity of a 2.2 engine, and spacial body work. The others are more than very good in what they do, but none capture the the essence of the Impreza at its very peak.

Why a P1? They are slower than some Impreza's.
Maybe so Jonno, I had an on paper faster impreza (sti5typeR). There were a few reasons why I changed over to a P1, (a few pointed out by Chris above, but there are other reasons
) with absolutley no regrets ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Cant fault a diff control impreza for a track weapon driven by somebody who knows what they doing.
I would say that real world decisions made me chop mine in for a P1, and my status as not a track God, I prefer my wheels of choice nowadays.

Not knocking anyones choice of a P1, it was in reference to scuba slagging off Impreza's so i thought i would point out his choice wasnt the ultimate. ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
The problem with the TypeR/RA was a lack of information about how to use them, they have much higher grip levels and better balance than a P1 in any type of conditions if you get the diff setings correct. Hopefully i have helped some people get more out of them and as a result shown the real performance they have if you just apply yourself a little. The DCCD-A in the Spec C has gone a long way to taking away the mistique of the DCCD system and is pretty much idiot proof now.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Cheers Chris, you know how to embarass someone.![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Incidently, I'm not on John's payroll![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
JKJ2 - not sure how true that is. I've had more comments about my new MY01 WRX than I ever had about my old MY00. I've been stopped in garages and the street on many occassions. I still get comments now. OK - mine isn't entirely standard looking, but I am still surprised at just how many comments it gets (almost all are positive).

but there again, in Milton Keynes with its fast roads and roundabouts, the ability to switch from sideways action to ripping round roundabouts is very easy
