nice emotional topic this....

I thought local authorities were now duty-bound to advise the local population that a convicted ped was living in their area..???

IMO its an illness, so custodial 'punishment' is doing no good whatsoever....something has to be done to remove these people's sex drive....

They still shouldn't be allowed to walk the streets and carry on with their vile acts. They should, at the lightest sentence be locked up for life ...and life meaning life not less! If there persistent offenders then death is the only way of securing an innocent kid wont get affected through their sick perversions Its hard to believe the "LAW" in this day and age is still so "outdated" ...next there will be a fine option instead of Prison

If convicted paedophiles were locked up for life they would not be able to re-offend.

Simple.

What does everyone think of the paedophile that never offends?

Thinking and doing are two completely different things.

Society needs a way to help prevent thinkers becoming do-ers.

I'm more concerned with stopping these people offending in the 1st place rather than going on about what should be done once they've offended (I think nearly everyone has the same opinion of them once they've 'crossed the line'). Everyone seems to shout, vent anger and use smilies a lot but that's not getting us anywhere.

You can thank the Internet, and the fact that almost every house has access to it, for a dramatic increase of people with paedophilic tendancies..... they now all have relatively easy access to something that was once quite difficult to get hold of.

Not the thing you want to hear.... but there are more people like this than you care to know about

chemical castration - as offered in the USA, if that doesnt work then surgical castration, and then hanging if they still persist

Paul

I stand corrected - maybe it was just wishful thinking...

IMO it is a 100% dead cert that a convicted pedo will re-offend, so releasing them is effectively the same as not locking them up at all...

I dont think a lobotomy would be effective.

Psychosurgery is based on a flawed vision of the relationship between brain tissue and psychological disorders. It is unlikely that any paedeophiliac tendencies can be located in one so-called 'abnormal' brain region.

I'd prefer they opted for this method of lobotomy:
In 1936, Walter Freeman, an American physician, with his colleague James Watts, performed his first lobotomy operation. He was so satisfied with the results that he went on to do many thousands more, and in fact began a propaganda campaign to promote its use. He is also famous for invented what is called ice pick lobotomy. Impatient with the difficult surgical methods pioneered by Moniz, he found he could insert an ordinary ice pick above each eye of a patient with only local anesthetic, drive it through the thin bone with a light tap of a mallet, swish the pick back and forth like a windshield wiper and -- voilà -- a formerly difficult patient is now passive.

Freeman recommended the procedure for everything from psychosis to depression to neurosis to criminality. He developed what others called assembly line lobotomies, going from one patient to the next with his gold-plated ice pick, even having his assistants time him to see if he could break lobotomy speed record. It is said that even some seasoned surgeons fainted at the site. Even Watts thought he had gone too far.

BuRR makes a good popint re the internet, this has to be the biggest downside to it is the freedom and ability to exchange pictures and communications by Pedos. Up until the internet thius must have been much more difficult and restrictive.

BTW i was doing a search for cheats for Toom Raider a couple of years back and many of the links it found where for **** and many for 'young ****'. That is sad and depressing!

If a lobotomy is not the answer then locking up for good or the death penalty (for child killers) is then.

I seem to remember reading a while back that the age for consent in Victorian times was 12, not sure when it changed to 16 but 12 is surely too low. I think 16 is a good starting point and do not see any need to change this.

Ship them all out to some remote island, with no way of getting off there. House them in huts, let them be semi self-sufficient and only drop off necessary supplies once a month. Like some sort of leper colony.

I do not envy your position, i have a 10 month old daughter and will/would do whatever it takes to protect her from any harm. If this man is roaming arond your community then try to get the press interested and get him publicity so peiople know who he is and what he looks like and to advise the Police if they see him or know where he is.

Question

jjones, what qualifications do you have to state that it is BS to say that some paedophiles cannot stop themselves? Obviously they have mental issues which might make rational thought more difficult, so why is it necessarily BS?

I must be in a minority here because I thought it was dreadful that a 73 year old man was beaten to death. What sort of society is it that people can say they are "glad" that someone, however vile, is beaten to death.

I do understand the concern. A few years ago I heard a rumour that a person I knew was a paedo. I thought it was just a vicious rumour but tried to find out more. Eventually, a family member got access to the files. They told me over the phone "I am not allowed to disclose any information to you whatsoever but please do not let my young relations anywhere near that person ever!"

She rang me back later and said her supervisor had found out why she had accessed the file and threathened her with the sack. She was able to smooth it over and I confronted the "paedo" for his side of the story. His version was that he had had a relationship with a person "just" under the age of consent. That can be sufficient to get someone on the register. The trouble with all sorts of offenses is that there are varying degrees.

I appreciate that B20 might want to hang all child sex offenders but where do you draw the line? Everyone feels disgust at the media portrayal of "kiddy fiddlers" who prey on small children and nobody (myself included) has any sympathy for anyone guilty of these crimes. However, IMHO, there is a big difference between someone who rapes a child and someone who has a consenting relationship with a person just below the age of consent.

Flame suit on!

A slight aside, but did anyone think it was a bit ironic that the Sun, editor one Rebekah Wade of "burn the peeeeedo!" vigilante fame, ran a picture of 14-year-old Peaches Geldof in a miniskirt with a rather unsavoury caption?

I think certain sections of the media winds up the stupider members of our society so much that it's inevitable that peolpe are going to get murdered, paediatricians attacked etc. It's being demonstrated rather nicely on this thread, in fact.

But they did, the last time the NotW ran their ****.

It was in Wales, admittedly, but there must be similarly idiotic people this side of the Severn.

And anyway, why "not too many"? Why not none? How about no-one gets attacked?

I think he may mean that paediatricians should not get attacked just because the sun/mirror want to sell more newspapers.
