Sport + Turbo Owners (this is not a dig)
#32
Just like to say, I have owned both.
I dont think they should be compared.
Buy either of them for what you want out of a car.
Now driving a JDM WRX, and its a different world, performance wise.
To drive a sport hard enough to keep anywhere close to a turbo performance, will not do the engine any good.

Gav,
It was me who posted the Focus story.
It wasn't wet but not sunny and dry either, sort of 6am cold with a few damp patches.
The Sport is going to be quicker in the wet but I also posted only if you loon about in the wet. How many people push ten tenths in the wet and rain?
If you drive a Turbo you soon learn the best way to corner is slow in fast out. If you enter a corner to fast you just understeer and scrub speed. Get the entry speed right, balance the car in the corner then blast out the other side.
Just in my opinion of course but the sport likes the same sort of driving and yes you get on the power earlier in the corner but the power at the wheels is probably less than a 1.8 Focus so the blasting out the other side is not on the cards.
To be honest for years I've been used to having a bit of power under the bonnet and the Sport left me a bit underwelmed. As I said before it's a well built and very good handling car. But for me if I wasn't getting a turbo I'd look elsewhere for something with a bit more go.

Gav,
Have you had a look at salsa-king's turbo in the for sale section.
It's the newer classic shape MY97, has FSH and just had the cam belts done. Has the later 4 pot brakes and runs full P1 suspension thats only a couple of years old.
I've driven it quite a few times and it drives like a 30000 miler.
Salsa Car
Cheers

edited to say, major services are every 45000 miles, and even the sport has to be serviced every 7500 or 6 months whatever is sooner...
