It was crime stoppers that were offering a reward last year between 50 and 500 quid.

http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/news2.asp?newsID=31

Not convinced myself that grassing is a good way to deal with drink drivers, would be better if more police hung around the pub car parks doing random tests, putting my tax money to good use.

ScoobyChrissy must be a wind up merchant like PSLewis - Nobody could seriously advocate defending drink drivers, drug dealers etc unless it invloved their own lifestyle! - or they were a solicitor - as for the term 'grass' we are not on the school playground now! - what other names could people call us to make us do what they want? err.. 'Stool pidgeon'?

Teasing on 'Gold Wheels' is fun, SC obviously doesnt understand where to draw the line on humour

Thought it was a good pre-xmas post - serious subject/good banter Nothing wrong with occassional wind-up, but Scoobchrissy is totally out of order.

Stand by for thread lock I hope
and surely blatant, unintelligent insults warrant a ban?

I tend to agree with scoobchrissy, drinking and driving is not acceptable (although I suspect at some point most of us have been guilty of it the morning after a heavy session).

I do get grumpy however at the Police / Government expecting Jo Public to do their job for them. I have no issue with being helpful, but the thought of intercepting a drunk or "grassing" them up and the potential repocutions don't bare thinking about. If the guy is dumb enough to get pi55ed and drive then he is dumb enough to come round and torch your house.

If the guy is dumb enough to get pi55ed and drive then he is dumb enough to come round and torch your house.
hes probably also dumb enough to drive into your car too...
then you dont get a penny in compensation...
worse still he injures a member of your family... your kid or something... and you found out he just left a pub, no one stopped him or tried to report him...

in my last car (celica) I got hit up the backside by a drunk driver... whe as not impressed that i decided to call the old bill as soon as i smelt the drink on him. tried to nab the phone off me, then did a runner...
phone 999, 30 minutes later, cops roll up and say which way did he go? as if he was waiting up the street for them to turn up! about as much use as chocalate tea pot, unless they catch you speeding!

in the end was an untraced driver... i got f*ck all and bad whip lash too go with it...

personally i would stop a mate who was thinking of driving whilst only slighty under the influence...
for anywone else, and i knew they were over the limit... and got their plate, then i would report them.
would not be interested in any reqard...
cuz if it turned out they killed someone or even a kid... and i did nothing about it when i could have... well i would never forgive myself

the world is full of too many people who stand by and do nothing...
Somebody Elses Problem syndrome!

anyway... hope u all dont drink and drive and have a good christmas... and a safe one

All this cr#p about "grasses", the main point of the discussion should be to make the roads safer, if this means grassing some one up for drink driving, do it, anyone thats been in an accident with a drunk driver (i have) will understand.

So if its the opinion of some on this thread that informing the police about a drink driver is grassing them up, is it the same opinion if you saw someone breaking into a house you wouldn't call the police because you would be grassing them up???.
Get real!!!!

And the mark up on soft drinks in pubs is usually 92+% (the highest catergory of all drinks types sold)and around 60-65% on beer. And i'm sure that some of you will notice that virtually all pub/bar chains actually have a retail price increase around mid to late November ready for the captive christmas market.

Unfortunately due to the reduction in police pulling people over these days, many people think it is worth the risk of drink driving, however if there was the possibility that they were to be grassed up by the general public, then it might make some people think twice about doing it.

We all have to agree to disagree here, and respect other people thoughts & point's of view. everyone of us know's what's right & wrong, its down to personal choices.
Drink & drive & any other activity that may have an affect on an individuals driving ability,is just as bad. Tiredness kill's, how many of us have driven being shattered.

Anyway let's not lose sight of what this site is about & get back to being Subaru owners.....

I'd have to agree with 'what would happen if you saw a drink driver who then went on to kill a child'

It is the same idea as 'if you saw a house being broken into you wouldn't just walk by'

So if you're unwilling to 'grass' the only thing to do is stop the idiot yourself.

I am of course talking about a driver who is completely skulled.

Quote,

'am i to presume you're a baseball hat/hoodie/tracksuit bottom wearing pr**k who thinks its ok to endanger other peoples lives cus its fun?'

Looks like i'm not the only one not reading things! Do i actually call you anything or ask you to make a point defending your thoughts (the words 'am i to presume' give it away). Perhaps i am a touch stereotypical but that comes from life experience, i deal with these types all day long and they talk a lot like the way you've been portraying yoursef, 'you shouldn't grass, i don't like grasses.' No-one asked you to like them mate, this aint about grassing this is about saving someones life from a drunk. Ever seen someone killed by a car hit? If you have you should know better, if you haven't perhaps you should think before ranting and raving.

The biggest detterent i can see is to show film in college/workplace (not schools, it is to early to have an effect, show to those actually driving) of people who have been hit by cars. Then show someone (it's been me as well) telling that childs mum he is dead. Then show how that effects everyone, from the doctors and nurses to the families to the officers dealing. Perhaps then you'll be a little less inclined to cheer the guy making off from police. Perhaps then you'll be less inclined to come over all tough, inviting all comers to 'come and talk'. And perhaps then i'll treat you with the dignity you think you are entitled too.

Perhaps i was too strong in my reply, if anyone else feels i was out of order i apologise but the fact is there are people who deal with this day in day out. And i'll tell you what, it hurts a hell of a lot. So if one person is saved that agony because someone picks up the phone and lets us know someone is drink driving
that will do me.
As for grassing well i guess its your conscience if someone gets killed.

Nuff said, far as i'm concerned thats done.

Some of the biggest criminals/drug dealers in this country have grassed up people. So lets not get all high and mighty about "geezers dont grass".

You are pissed in a car. I call the cops.. hard luck. Not worried.

As i've said before "shop a drink driver", if anyones not sure what damage a drink driver can cause then i can post some pictures on this site of my mates car after we had been hit head on at 60+ mph by an allready banned drunk driver, this was after he had knocked the motorcyclist off that he was chasing, the police said had we not been driving in a diesel escort (heavier/stronger engine) then we would be seriously injured if not dead.

I can only assume in my opinion that anyone that thinks its bad and not the right thing to do to report (grass) a drunk driver is possibly guilty of drink driving themselves and doesn't want to be caught.

Sorry i have strong opinions of this matter and dont wish to cause offence to anyone on this forum but after seeing first hand what devestation a drunk driver can cause i think you would all think the same.

I can't understand the "No Grass" thing.

If I see kids causing criminal damage or vandalising I'll call the police.

If I see someone breaking into a car or house I'll call the police

If I see someone getting mugged I'll call the Police

If I know someone is dealing in drugs I'll call the police.

If someone is drink driving I'll call the police.

So am I a Grass?
Does this somehow make me a bad person?

case in point ...

Daily Mail today ....

Drunk driver hit and killed someone. Got £150 fine and banned for 12 months.

The law is an ***.

You get more for doing 31 mph in a 30 (particularly in Wales ) or having a dodgy spaced number plate.

last 10 years = 7 drink drivers not recieved a penny... but got that feeling like peeing in dark trousers! It gives you a warm feeling No one knows. Two of my mates were killed by drunks so it makes you think a bit. And doing 50-60k per year makes you notice how many arseholes are kicking about. The thing is, if one of them killed a member of your family then they wouldn't give a toss! Like what seems to be an ever increaing amount of people you have absalutly no respect for others lives!

I saw a guy 5 years ago 10pm drive over a roundabout on a dual carrigeway. he was in a old granada it blew the two OS tires out and he carried on. I followed and watched this nutter drive from Wakefield almost to Bradford with sparks everywhere. I was on the phone the whole way to the Police who were busy dealing with another drunk driver who had just killed someone in leeds so they had no cars available, finaly got the chopper overhead when the guy mounted the curb clipped one young lad and just missed about 10 of his mates. i already had the flashing lights on the van roof, headlights on full beam as he was using both lanes. He made it to his house! 9miles... i boxed him just as two traffic cars arrived. They pulled him out of the car and he couldn't stand! pi$$ed his pants, the lot.

Now if someone tells me this guy or many like him have any regard for your life at that moment in time; then thier from mars! at that moment in time he had no regard for anyones life, he could have driven striaght into you comeing the other way, killed your family and not given a toss.
At those times thiers no need think about the word grass!
Think of this the next time you worry about shopping someone!

i would class a grass as someone who tells the boss about someone at work not doing there work,or a friend who tells yours misses you've just been with another lady etc.

a grass is NOT someone who pulls a drink driver over, that is something that has to be done for the safety of the public, its not needed.
just my opinion
