I'll try to explain. If I am NOT the only one who understands this, then please someone else explain in their own words also as I may be explaining it badly.

The reason for the ban will (I would put money on it) DEFINITELY NOT be "for using freedom of speech".

It may WELL have been for saying something, but not specifically for actually using freedom of speech.

Analogy. A murderer gets done for shooting someone dead in his front room. And then says "this country is a disgrace. I got put in prison for firing a gun in the privacy of my own home".

That is not the case. He got done for killing someone, not for firing a gun. He just happened to fire a gun whilst killing someone.

Regards

Simon

As an attempt to be more constructive...

Right, it's clear that this last trackday at Bedford was a major bummer for a lot of people and also for Mr. Palmer, due to complaints.

Things were further discussed, some people got a refund, some didn't, some people were sent away for reasons that are at least arguable.

But...

I'm not British, but I do visit UK tracks reasonably often. I have an Impreza, and frankly, it's quite loud. Not because I'm a boy racer (bit too old) but because I have a decat.

That exhaust caused me no problem at:

. Donington
. Elvington
. Brunthorpe
. Brands Hatch
. Zolder
. Francorchamps

Fact.

I can understand that every businessman has to protect his investments.

I can not understand the recent emails, as the list seems to be inconsistent (but I could be wrong). I also don't understand (sorry Pete) why the SIDC has chosen to use that list and tell people they are no longer welcome.

So it would be good to find out a) why this list was put together and b) why the SIDC decided to accept that list and warn the people on it.

Come again? LOL

Simon, in his opinion he was banned for using his freedom of speach. Saying that shouldnt be a problem, it's his opinion. He isnt saying JP is a ******, which is something entirely diferent and could be construed as a problem, even if its true.

I don't have a problem with being banned, fair play it's his facility to do with as he wishes.

What I don't understand is why have these e-mails been sent? The whole situation had calmed down, it had almost passed from my memory as I'm sure it had for most. Surely a more subtle way to do it would just be the sorry it's full routine.

I'm all for keeping this thread open, if only for those who feel they've been wrongly banned and want a reason. Me, I'm banned, I can live with for the reason stated in the first para of this post.

After reading all this drivel it appears to me that you are no longer entitled to your opinion on scoobynet.I thought that was the whole point of the board to share opinions, clearly im mistaken.Pity really this place used to be good.

[Edited to say i'll probably get banned for that ]

Agreed... I had forgotten all about it. Now I think this whole matter will be fresh in everyone's mind. Wasn't there a saying: 'there is no such thing as bad pulicity'.... you sure about that??

I'm banned so won't be attending ever again, though even if I had not been banned this thread would have prompted me to consider alternative venues in future.

you are no longer entitled to your opinion on scoobynet
Does anyone else feel this is the reason for my posts, or this is in fact the case?

Is scoobynet going to get attacked now after spending all this time trying as hard as possible to keep this thread open?

If you feel that the above quote is unwarranted, please speak up also and give us a bit of support, and show that not everyone is against what we're trying to do here.

Why do you think I reckon it should be kept open? It'll be near the top and has nearly 2500 views at this point.

Simon, FWIW, I do think you want to keep this thread going. I do not know your reasons, and I certainly don't always agree with things on here as you know, but I do believe you want to keep this thread open.

FWIW.

Theo, thank you.

There are no reasons other than to do the right thing.

I will give you some hard facts so that you can see that I have absolutely no ulterior motive to stopping peoples opinons, etc or for keeping this thread open or for protecting anyone or anything else.

1) ScoobyNet has been named in all of this, and regardless of the content, it (IMHO) bring ScoobyNet's name in to disrepute. I would certainly have rather ScoobyNet was not named in all of this. So it is against my personal interests for this thread to even exist.

2) I personally (this is not the view of scoobynet) feel that this situation appears to have been handled badly, and think it is important that the whole situation is clarified, and those who have been wrongly treated are granted an apology (I also think those who directly insulted Mr Palmer should offer him the same -that's just common decency).

3) At the time of the original thread Lee from SIDC posted comments aimed at scoobynet and this community which I considered to be incredibly insulting and unprofessional. I requested a public apology from the SIDC for this and it was turned down. I have no personal benefit in supporting the SIDC.

Having read the above facts, please go back over my posts and think about what possible motives I could have had for posting what I did, except to simply support the scoobynet community and in particular, anyone who MAY HAVE BEEN wrongly dealt with in all of this.

Regards

Simon

Interesting, very interesting.

For the record, I was not there, however, I have quite a few friends who were, and thus I have had many reports of what occured on that day, plus I did read the threads and I may have even commented on them.

So, technically I should keep my nose out of this.

I can understand that SIDC has to respect the ban, they obvioulsy want to keep the bedford track day, which is a good thing, it is a very nice track indeed, and thus they need to respect Mr Palmers wishes.

I recall that Mr Palmer did post on the original thread, and I think that everyone concerned would welcome his return to clarify who is banned and exactly why they are banned, and I think that this is why there is such an uproar at this.

Excellent. We have someone who knows the exact reason why they were banned. Please tell us all how you came to find out that this was the reason?

Cheers

jjones - funny, but not really the kind of thing Simon needs on this thread.

What I am very interested in is how someone can be banned on their ScoobyNet user name? How is that name tied up to their real name? AFAIK you don't have to provide your user ID when you register for a trackday. Ok, so Craig's SN name is somewhat more obvious and maybe looking at someones email address may reval a little more, but for others, hmm.

If this comment serves no purpose then delete it or ask me to edit it, I'll do it quite happily, as said, I'm just curious, and I know what that did to the cat.

Well,

Craig and Dingy have both told me about this issue today on the phone. I hadn't checked my personal mail until I arrived home (i.e. just now).

I think its a shame after all that happened - especially after having a 15-20min chat with Jonathan @ last years autosport trade day.

Yes - we were upset after the event - but it was entirely acceptable to be so as we had all worked so very hard to get the car working for its maiden trackday. Ok, so we had a more interesting debate with our car having only just passed an SVA and MOT noise and immissions test - but thats beside the point right now.

I don't recall making any insults and I certainly remember Jonathan being perfectly ok at the autosport show.

I am confused - but I would still like to understand why this ban is a blanket/everyone ban.

Webmaster,

I haven't been given the benefit of an explanation, just a ban,so i'll be damned if I'm going to waste any of my time trying to figure it out.I am also not at all bothered, and i will respect your request for only constructive comments in this thread, which i don't have.

cheers

what's really pissing me off is my email at work was offline for a few days and i don't even know if i am lucky enough to be banned.

can someone who has access to the list please let me know ASAP.

i can't be arsed checking the old threads but would bet my bollocks to a barn dance that i had something pretty derogatory to say.

if i am not on the list can i apply to be added to it, thanks in advance

Russell Vicary aged 28 and a half.

Markus, I'm imagining somewhere there is a list of real names (for the day) against e-mails/userIds that booked. Some as you say are a tad harder to get round eg JohnFelstead (sorry to pick on ya John).
