Both great cars for different reason IMHO. If someone was giving a car away well the Porche would be fine. If I was loaded I'd have something different than a Porche, probably an AMG Merc 2 door - but definately would there be a nice Scooby in the 4 car garage "for a bit of fun at the weekend sir!"

I'd have a 911 Turbo of all porkers (except the Carrera GT)
It may be a little less powerful than a GT2 but in the wet the turbo with it's 4wd would be a lot better.
Though an excellent 911, you can't really compare a GT3 to either Turbo or GT2 as both are far superior. IMO

I did a few laps as a passenger in this 4S Cab @ Silverstone last month and there is no way in the world that I would want any Scoob over this beast.
The car to the left is a GT3, that ride was just unbelievable, stuck to the track like excrement on a blanket.

I'm sorry, if in my scoob I pulled up parallel to a Nova and decided to give him a beating and he beat me, I would not be amused - and I think many people on here would not see the funny side, especially knowing the Nova driver will be laughing his *** off. I'd feel like a **** for pulling up next to him, provoking him, and trying to show him a bit of scooby power and then getting flushed!!
Now, I would bet that's how the Carerra 4 driver felt.
Also, I have raced many a car in short bursts. Out of the several tussles I've had off the lights or rolling with, say, Boxsters (and beaten them all clean) - they have not been impressed. The expressions on their faces say they were mighty p1ssed off!
Finally, my mate came to the Ace Cafe meet a couple of months ago in his M3 Evo. On his way back on the A406 a scooby tore him to shreads. He has been mentally scarred by this and admitted that even a new M3 would have had no chance the way the scooby pulled off. It's humbled his badge snobbery somewhat.
Finally again, might add that my mate with a Supra got beaten off the lights by a Renault 5! They even filmed it and stuck it on the net. Now someone was not a happy chappy!

Sounds like you lot know a lot of people with fragile egos!
I am always ammused when people say "He spent 60k and I still wasted him, blah blah", and "if I had £60k I would buy an Evo and a Scooby" - well I bet you that you woudn't!
Car ownership is not about the cheapest way to go fast, which most of this frankly pathetic threads seem to end up.

id, a client of mine has just sold his 911 Turbo for an STi 8 PPP and couldn't be happier. From 400bhp to 300bhp and he tells me it is faster on track days. I think the point is that while owning a 911 must be tremendously rewarding there are also problems if you drive it like a nutter and lose to a budget jap car. I dont see too many 911 drivers who are not losing their hair and those are usually the ones happy to let the badge do the talking - fair enough. But those who are petrol heads and lose out to the likes of us are undoubtedly piisseedd!!
Trust me. Buy a Noble if u have the dosh...

UUrrrggghh a Noble! Expensive unreliable kit cars with low rent ford engines. I would only ever get a 996 GT3 if I wanted a track oriented car.
I suggest your mate cannot drive for **** if he can go faster in a STi8 than a 911 Turbo.

The wisdom of Imlach. So good his posts have to be edited so much.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
In any case, give me the typeR (which is faster) and id spend the rest of the money on something worthwhile.

STI8 PPP faster than a 911 turbo?
There must have been something seriously wrong with the 911 turbo!
I don't think it's about wanting a scoob over a 911, I'm sure that if we were all honest, we would all choose a 911 over any scoob. Nor is anyone saying that a scoob is better, it's just good to compare.

Torque is nothing when talking about acceleration (well except that torque equals horsepower, but it's power that counts).
Honda S2000:
Weight 1450Kg
Max Power 237bhp @ 8300rpm
Max Torque 153lb ft @ 7500rpm
Mondeo TDCi:
Weight 1260Kg
Max Power 130bhp @ 4000rpm
Max Torque 220lb ft @1800rpm
So with it's massive torque the Mondeo should be quicker, easily overcoming the 190Kg extra weight? Nope, 0-60 in 9.5 secs compared to 5.7 for the Honda.
Power = acceleration - the torque explains how that power is produced.

D'oh I got the weights mixed up, Honda = 1260Kg Mondeo = 1450Kg.
BTW Just to clarify my point, if torque equals acceleration (or even top-end performance) there wouldn't be a performance car on the planet running on a petrol engine cos diesels are miles ahead in terms of torque.

Oh dear oh dear... sinking to new depths on a thread - taking the pi$$ about the number of edits made.. whatever next!?!
What I love the best about these sticky threads (i.e. I just beat a jet-fighter, and my car only costs a fraction of the jet) is that the evidence that that other guy was really trying had is that the boy-racer always manages to spot that 'other guy' looks pi$$ed off as hell... ALWAYS... LOL
Reading the thread it seems you both were waeving in and out of traffic, racing. That says two things to me:
1. You (both) are utterly stupid
2. Maybe he didn't get away because of the traffic, rather then your car's power

LOL
Makes me chuckle this.
I really doubt the guy in the 996 C4 was really too bothered, after all hes got a 996 you haven't.
As for a new STi being quicker than a 996T, LOL LOL LOL. My brother bought a 996T a couple of months back
(quickest thing i've been in by far
), and there is not a cat in hell's chance that it would get anywhere close.
In fact he's from round that way, if you wanna put your money where you mouth is lol.
Cheers
Iain

I think he was saying the guy found the STi quicker on a track than the 911T, as opposed to a straight line dash, which even my granny could do.
The 911T may well be faster on a track for skilled drivers. But perhaps for the moderate/average driver they can take the STi around quicker.

Indeed. Quite why someone has a gripe about editing posts, I do not know. If the only problems he can find in his sad & pitiful existence is to criticise that, then god help him!

Why do some of you have to get so heated about things like this? I enjoy the banter on SN about 'my car's faster than yours' etc. It's meant to be a bit of harmless fun, as it doesn't really matter one way or the other. But as soon as it gets personal, and people start attacking one another, it takes all the fun out of it.

I do not wish to open up this silly argument again, BUT yes Akshay thankyou for being so observent. The idea that a 911T would lose to an STI in a straight line is frankly ludicrous. However the bloke i was talking about does a track day every month, he is not a proffessional driver like most people contributing on this thread and therefore finds the cornering capabilities better on the aforementioned Sub. Going fast is one thing, getting round the corner fast is another...
