Are Gold Wheels Getting A Bit Naff..?
#38
I'm afraid to say this but the gold wheels are just the tip of the iceberg, the whole car is now naff IMHO,whenever I tell people what car I've got they always say thats a bit boy racerish isn't it and until now I've always defended it.But that was then.... Now look at the evidence loud exhausts, dump valves, induction kits its all gone pear shaped, not to mention recent threads on this BBS about whos got the fastest car etc.
But here is the real clincher yesterday in the Wembley car park I saw I swear a WRX with a Max power sticker in the windscreen, face it peeps image wise the Impreza has had it.Granted it is a great drivers car and maybe you shouldn't worry what people think but I'm glad I've sold mine sorry.

Kramer, you are not the first person to say, or to give the impression, that "it's time to move on."
What puzzles me is... to what? What betters a Scoob in all-round point-to-point performance, ability, and reliability for the price of 22000 pounds (or less for import)?

thats a bit sad really kramer if you've sold a good car cos u think its image has gone downhill ???
i didn't buy my car cos of its perceived image. i bought cos ive always liked imprezas and for the money i dont know what else comes close for sheer grin factor ?
there will always be people who want the fastest car of any type, want more noise from it etc etc
does that mean we should all sell our imprezas and buy something no ones (yet!) written about modifying with loud exhausts, induction kits etc ?
i think not. most of us owners surely are just happy to own such a gr8 and desirable car.
in fact i'll go as far as to admit that i even read Max Power !!! :eek (nice scooby in the latest issue i thought ? although the drivers driving ability leaves a bit to be desired !)
i'll be interested in what you are gonna (have?) replace your scooby with ?

Ok call me whatever you want but I just feel the Impreza is moving into a cruise type scene, big burnouts in McDonalds car parks,Southend etc... Theres a Southend post on here today ooh that was below the belt !!
I don't mean to come over all elitist its just this type of thing doesn't appeal to me, or am I too old is 29 too old ?
As for cars I've been looking at, I sold one of the best cars ever IMHO to by an Impreza four years ago, the car...An Integrale Evo 2, better build quality than both Imprezas I've owned, a uk and a jap import.Elises come into it as well as does a 911 C2.
Or sod the cars and by another bike, a Ducati 916 this time, Hmmmm.

Yep, agree with Steve.
Whatever car you buy, buy it 'cause you like it, not for the image. This sort of thing has happened to a lot of 'drivers cars' over the years (Renault 5GT Turbo and 205 GTi come to mind).
Whatever the max power brigade do, it doesn't stop the cars being great fun to drive (isn't that the reason we bought them in the first place?).
Personally I've just bought my first Impreza (I'm 28, so no, you're not too old ) and I think its the dogs whatsits. I've thought about putting the SS backbox on and maybe some new alloys, but that's about it. What you do is a matter of personal taste.
Enjoy your new car (bike), but I don't think the Impreza is dead just yet.
(PS Judging by the Integrale's I've been in, you must have been bloody unlucky with your Scooby's - great car though).

Oh, OK. There was a thread about Integrales here a week or so ago (was that you?) and I must say I'd LOVE the Impreza in "hot hatch" shape. It's the first saloon I've had, and despite the fact that I've had it for eight months, I still can't get used to where it ends! (and I've driven all from 205s to a 7.5t truck). But your comments on reliability don't follow the usual route, from what I've heard of Integrales. "Too highly tuned, therefore knacker themselves easily" was the impression I got. Nice to hear it's not perhaps correct!
I also looked at a C2, but thought they were a bit overweight, and don't trust a car that Porsche only build for 4? years; I hear servicing costs are a nightmare. Also, I get 26mpg out of my MYUK scoob, and I dread the thought of going to Tesco at 21mpg or less! Same but different with the Elise; some of us can only afford one car!
Hey, whatever you've got; hope you enjoy it!
(perhaps I should look at that Integrale again!)

well again as chris says everything i've read about the integrale says how fragile it is ? think u must have been real unlucky with your uk scoob (imports are another ballgame altogether if u get the wrong one !)
still i've never been in one but would love the chance at even being a passenger in one with all the good press its had over the years.
i didnt really consider anything but a scoob.
maybe an Evo but slighty more than i was happy to spend, as i'd have wanted a uk car for 'peace of mind'. certainly cost of servicing etc and reliability was also factors in favour of the scoob. i dont wat some high powered car which breaks down every 100 miles !
sure if i had the money for a 3rd car, i'd luv summat like an elise or caterham or westfield but i aint (well not now i've stopped contracting and gone 'straight' 1 )
i'm hoping this is my first of several scoobs and am awaiting with anticipation some 'real' info and shots of the 2001 scoob.
til then i'll just enjoy the permanent grin i've got with my 4 week old today MY00 scoob

I hear what you say, unfortunately this goes with the teritory of an iconic car that is ageing and depreciating within reach of the max power reader, I think Subaru owners have been fortunate enough to enjoy a longer period at the top than most, mainly due to rock solid residuals, but hey! welcome to the real world....you may have sold yours at the right time judging by the endless imprezas co-habiting the pages of Top Marque, just waiting to line you up at the next set of lights..
I have to say though without spending a lot more what is going to come close.
