Cool

like a lot of peeps, I've set mine to around the 6K mark as this gives me plenty of time to change up before the power starts leveling off. I find it's also good setting it to a lower as I tend to completely ignore the change light so imaging setting it at 8K and I still wanna keep your foot depressed...

I used to have the beep set to come on at 5,500rpm. Soon got annoyed with that. Make do with just the red light at the same revs now. Don't want any noise to get in the way of hearing that exhaust tone!!

Question

Ah, get rid of the bright light and put a beep in there instead
I agree whole heartedly with you Pete, why the hell do you need a beep to tell you to change gears, you should be able to go off the engine note to start with (as the radio's suck and the engine drowns them out quite easily )
Now my new STi doesnt have a beep beep beep because it doesnt need one (its called having confidence in the driver to change gears, and also why do you think that Subaru put a rev limiter on there )

Thumbs up

Pete, you should direct your "joking" question to the boys at Subaru. It is a feature of the STI cars so why not use it? So believe what you are reading

What do you think of the shift lights? These are even available as mods from companies such as Blitz and HKS. Instead of taking your eye off for that split second, a light would tell the driver the rpm they've hit and for added measure a beeper can be set to sound at the desired rpm...

I think that if you need lights and bleepers and folding mirrors and boost guages then you are not fit to drive one of the best cars the world has ever seen ............... great drivers like Tony Burns (above) and me become part of the car when we buckle up, we feel it, we smell it, we sense it, we know its needs, its desires - we know when to treat it carefully and when to let the reins loosen .............................. we do NOT need to worry if we take our eyes off the road to look at the rev counter, because we KNOW what revs we are doing!!

But YOU use aids if you need them, I suppose its like stabilisers on a pedal bike? When you grow up and become a complete driver you will laugh at what you needed to support you!!

Wink

You will actually find that the likes of F1 drivers dont use the change buttons as much as you think, these are also set and not "i need to see where the best rpm to change is"
Its a device thats as useful as the bright button and gives you all of 10 mins worth of joy figuring out how to set it to the best rpm available to you (you may as well set it to 1000rpm for the good that it will do you).
If people cannot figure out that when you feel the power dropping off like all cars do towards the red line, you change gear well.... god help us all

Tony

Cool

Tony and Pete "Solberg" are in bed together

Onto another serious note I do know where you're coming from (as I'm sure most of the peeps who have replied to this post will also know) in regards to feeling when it is necessary to change upinstead of waiting for the beeper sound or light to light up ...but it's just a feature of the car and like I said and people are free to use it
