AC/DC's Back in Black -- now the 3rd best selling album ever
#33
DBA...I agree as well. Strangers in the Night made it in at #8, and most of the others were in the top 20. Though #4 was Zep's "How The West Was Won". I treated myself the other week and bought "Made In Japan" on CD, bonus disc and all.
The biggest crime IMHO, was the lack of Rory Gallagher's "Live In Europe" from the top 10! Sounded like it was recorded in a tin shed with my grannys mono cassette deck, but what guitar playing playing! He is right up amongst those sadly missed

Agreed Mr Spigot,
Made In Japan is easily the number 1 imo.You only have to listen to side one,and that alone blows away At The Budokan.Blacmore rampant, nuff said
and its still available NEW on vinyl, ive just renewed my old worn out one

Am working my way through some of the more important albums that I have on vinyl and replacing with the silver beer coasters. Latest addition is "Strangers In The Night"-most definately a band at their peak, and prior to that it was "Unleashed In The East". Both classics.
Now where did I put the air guitar? (Steering wheel bongos fitted as standard in my Legacy LOL)

Strangers In The Night is a personal fave of mine as well and i also got it on CD but i still prefer it on vinyl.I think there are a few versions floating around, on CD.I saw them on tour, but not with Schenker, just like i missed Lizzy with the best line up and ACDC with Scott.I was bloody luckyt to see them in their prime but missed all the really great line ups.I have seen Cozy Powell (rip) which sorta makes up for iy.

Saw DC with Scott a couple of days before Xmas 79...with the Pirates in support. What an awful band they were! Never got to see Lizzy but remember seeing UFO @ Bham, and Phil Mogg getting dragged into the crowd and having his belt nicked after he said he would swap it for some bloke's t shirt, and then he didn't! And the crowd refused to leave until they played "Doctor Doctor".

Rock Bottom was always Schenkers track for me,although i'm sure Chapman made a brave attempt.Rock Bottom BBC sessions version better than SITN but i still prefer SITN,for nostalgic reasons mainly
#41
SITN was dubbed "controversial" when it came out....never found out why-the cover maybe? I know they toned down the cover artwork of TWTWATI for the US market, due to the blowtorch/naked flesh proximity
#42
dunno, never heard that one.I know a man who will know though, will pm him
Schenker was always pissed during that time though and he was worse for wear on Rock Bottom,so the techy guitar duded tell me,he missed several chords apparently

Personally I think they're sh1te.
A load of screetching crap that all sounds the same.
That terrible song by Elton John about Di is the biggest selling single ever, but that's sh1te too.
Big volume sales don't make it any good. They just mean a lot of people bought it. I bet over half its sales are from people replacing their knackered vinyl for a cd anyway.

fatherpierre...I agree with you about elton John but your defamation of one of the great pieces of work in the rock genre marks you as someone whose musical opinion is to be glossed over and promptly forgotten. Harsh I am afraid but fair
ps listening to Awaken by Yes at the mo. Sublime.

We're all entitled to our opinions, however misguided they may be.
ACDC is just not music to me. Pub rock at best LOL.
I bet many of you ACDC fans think The Darkness are pretty good too

Have been away over Xmas and am back! For a few days anyway. I got the Cat Stevens one too-good album. My hi fi is currently ringing to Martin Simpson's "Righteousness and Humidity"-stunning folk/blues playing.
CITW 97-awful version, tho it did capture the mood of the nation at the time.
Nazereth, now there's a name to conjure with, though they seemed to fair better with other people's songs tather than their own.
Live-Bursting Out is arguably Tull at their finest, following on what was their best two studio albums-"Songs from the Wood" and "Heavy Horses".
Roll on June, when Marillion hit the road again. One of the best gigs I saw in recent years was them, unplugged, at the Bass Brewery Museum, Burton on Trent. We even got a free bottle of "Racket Fuel" beer at the end. Sad to report the beer was not as good as the band. Actually, this will now probably start a whole Fish v Hogarth debate.....

I go along with the person who said that you just have to listen to Hayseed Dixie doing their Hillbilly Tribute to ACDC.
No idea what they are on but it gives me a laugh every time.
