This is how it is.......

My mate owned a 20v Coupe', he reads this BBS as he also owned a scoob, and his bird has still got one.

So Oliver back me up.

A 20v Coupe is faster than a MY01 Wrx from 0-145 in straight(ish) line, by about 15 car lengths over a mile or so. Me in a Wrx, him in the Coupe.

But when its wet, his tractor was quicker.....plus he had it for a couple of weeks and had 12 clutches .....OK two!

Isn't it funny how easily adults can be reduced to children.

I like the scooby in all its forms and guises of which there are many, quite confusing actually, I like the Fiat Coupe in its single guise 20VT, no point in confusing the conversation with NA.

Someone stated earlier in this thread while (making a point) that the scooby - quote "a subaru is a rally bred car, not designed to be beautiful. it's designed to get you down b road's f'kin quickly, thats it. not designed for top end power"

In reply to that comment alone - guys there is a big difference between a WRC car and a production road going saloon, is a corolla or Focus or a 206 or citroen ...........a rally bred car - well no, they are safe road going passenger vehicles and that includes WRX and Coupe 20VT's designed to be driven on a public highway.

So some of us then deside they don't like the safe understeer or the spongy springs or the lack of power and decide to spend a little to develope our cars to handle better (in the right hands) go a little faster "in the right hands" and not on a public road, the nice thing about scoobies is that they can come out of the factory like that, P1, Sti, RB5 etc etc, us poor coupe drivers have to do all that stuff ourselves, like I have said before, I have been on a track under race conditions and seen first hand how all manner of scoobies compare to a standard and a slightly modified 20VT, I am not going to disclose my findings all I will say is that this argument/discussion is pointless both from a 20VT and a scoobie perspective, we are not driving WRC cars, the guy that thinks his WRX is a WRC needs therapy quick, oh and the coupe is not an "ENZO" :-) or WRC.

We drive roadcars guys some are slightly quicker than others or handle slightly better or are quieter or smoother softer or whatever, but make no mistake "they are road cars" we think these guys have ***** driving a WRC down a country road at 100mph plus, well I rekon it's not too bad considering they are in a structural cage that will withstand almost anything, so when you guys are hammering down a country road at 100mph remember you're missing two things, a cage and empty roads. The point i'm making is get the cars on a track and you will be surprised just how slow fast or indifferent we and are cars really are.

G

I never read over my post so I hope it makes sense and adds some value

geoff the last comment about the rally bred car is a pile of s**t, the impreza was originally brought out for homoligation...and became a road car same as the audi short wheels base coupe and the rs200 although the 2 later ones never became much the audi became the normal road going audi turbo coupe but the rs200 went to rallycross and a couple became garage eye candy...the fiat coupe was introduced to be a flag ship sports car for the range and is a very good car in most way including handling(in the dry) in the wet its a totally different ball game....the impreze is an all round performance car in all conditions bar ice and snow.

darren

ps when it comes to sti's and 22b which are standard ltd editions then the coupe will not come close in any way under 100mph.

lol, your all crackers !!

Your comparing 1 car Coupe 20v Turbo against about 15 different Subarus ranging from the std UK model......

......up to the Top end TypeR/A's with all the fancy running gear.

If people do have to compare, stick with the Scoobs to Evo's and the coops to Focus RS' etc...

Anyway, My 1.6 Ford Cortina is quicker than than my brothers Zonta when Michael Schumacher is driving it!!!

2000 model 0-100 16.9 secs
LOL That the sort of time you'd achieve if you didn't launch with a car that has 1k on the engine. Any classic shape turbo will be much much faster to 100mph than that. The most commonly accepted 0-100mph time is 14.9s

Of course, the other thing to bear in mind, is that the Scoob can carry passengers without degrading them by getting them to duck down to get in the back (of course, in some cases, especially the laydeez, this can be a good thing!!!)

But personally, with kids, I came from a Peugeot 306 3dr, and it was a nightmare!!

[flamesuit ON] Plus the fact that I'd never buy a car that looks like it was designed by "Captain Bogbot", Kryten from Red Dwarf!!!![flamesuit OFF]

Performance wise the Scooby's and Coupe's are very well matched, in wet or dry conditions. I've driven both and lukcily had the opportunity to race several around tracks.
They can both be modded from the base models, and of course the STI RB5 P1 models are like that from new.
Two friends have Scooby's , one an STI Prodrive, and another a P1, oddly, they both feel my coupe handles better??? ,well I disagree but the Coupe has a very predicatable chassis, and can develop high cornering speeds wet or dry. What also suprised me was that there really was little difference in the straight line speed between all three cars, the Coupe having the edge once above 80mph. On the track there seems little difference between all three.
Of course My coupe is non standard and with uprated suspension engine etc so similar to the mods PPP would do on a Scooby.

The Subaru IS an icon, it is superb in what it does, I have to say I actually like the looks. My expereince of driving is they are better handlers than a standard Coupe 20vt, you can take more liberty's with them, and better built (by far), but I'm more than pleased with my Coupe and how she drives etc.
But as usual on forums there are guys that rate there cars as quicker as anything else, and have never had the opportunity to race them in competition condiitons hard round a twisty circuit in the rain, and see for themselves how good/bad indifferent there car is in there hands.

ps the originator of this thread has contacted me, so should meet up for a drink and chat :-), and have a comparison of two different routes to car pleasure:-)

Joe

personnally, anyone who i know and want's to talk to me about how fast me car is, is always greated with the same first line, every time. it's a 0-60 mph car and not for 100 mph upwards. that's the way i prefer it. i don't want to have to be doing over a ton every time i want to pass another quick motor. over 100 mph you don't get that push into the back of your seat like you do when you floor it in first and second gear....unless your in a scoob with over 400 bhp(which is mightly scary might i add). lately i drove a volvo t5 and tbh, first and second gears were pretty lame, but at about 80 mph it came alive. not brutelly fast, but still faster than me(roughly) 290 bhp scoob, but you know the funny thing........I DON'T CARE! give me first and second gear acceleration ANY day!

bring on me uprated fuel pump, fuel regulator and link ecu and say hello to 320 bhp(or thereabouts

you lot make me

its not about the twisties, and whats this racing above 100 mph, pick any gear but first

But in reality the performance really are similar, both 2 litre turbo charged cars. Its no wonder its close.

But one definately looks better doing it and thats no crock.

What about the crap turning circle? Guy at work had one and used to go red when he couldn't take a right on the mini round about without hitting the curb

okay what we all have to remember is that they both are general sports cars, the subaru hailing from the rallye side, the coupe pulling in influences from the italian stalions, but with no race history of its own...thats that part..

the 20v coup is a damn fast car and it sounds great, but so is the subaru, which also sounds great, nothing like a flat 4 at about 2-3 grand pulling away..mmmmm

the coup i belive IS a faster car than the UK2000, but thats your own fault for buying the old gentalmens version....heheheh...you knew the power would not last long, a half well tuned RS turbo will leave you...heheh.

I personaly have a very pokie jap WRX, some what tuned you might say..hehehehe..okay its had the ***** tuned out of it by RC Developments, and not much will cause it trouble, yes ive raced a porsch and i had a blast with Teddie Sheringhams ferrari a few months back on the run in to the M62....and it wasted me top end, but in a straight line....even stevens, bit me, bit him, gave me a quick grin and carried on the 62 towards liverpool.. but park the two together.......well next question...its the italian that gets the looks.....not TWISTYs so i cant use that BS claim

As for the twistys, go up against an EVO with that wonderfull AYC and see how good the old Subaru does then........different story altogether.....a well driven porsch or high powered M class BMW will also be right there with you....there just not that good of a car anymore....its a fact...

my friend refers to mine as a "Japanise Mondeo"...lol....he drives an MR2t so he shuts up quite soon..hhehee

for all those who have posted the " iv raced a porsch or whatever"..most of the time they will have been backing off..accept it, replacing a front pannel and a headlight on a Subaru is cheap as chips...a 15k front end for a porsch is a different matter..hehe...divorce material

enjoy your car i do...just remember "21 jigawatts"........its a fantasy just like most of the posts...heheh

merry christmas

First up....I would never compare a sports car with a touring car There's just no comparison as they are built for wholly different purposes.

To stop all this arguing (although is has been v. amusing!).....let's have something we can all agree on. If I was racing a Scooby (even your slowest models), I'd come last every time....

--Sarah

PS Hello Gedi....long time no speak....we never got around to that race !!

U are using other marques under the same brand to win your argument.

If thats ok heres 1 thats from the same company that owns a marginal share in subaru/is held by the same mother"company"

You bring in the ENZO , so we bring in this , and it sure as hell will beat your italian car

You might like to add gearbox drive shafts and diff's to your wish list.

Everyone knows that drag type starts in a 4wd car is for fools!
