met, check that the dipstick is seated properly, this can spray oil about. Check water pump whilst cambelt is being done.
New engine is easy to come by or a 1.9 - lots of people swapping them out on 205gtidrivers.com.

Oil could also be blowing back through dipstick (and everywhere else) onto engine if the oil breather pipes are blocked or kinked.
Also remove nasty induction kit - they lose power over standard induction!

if your doing the plugs and leads, do new dizzy and rotar arm too.
I've also stuck some syntrax in the gearbox which has helped as I have a 3rd gear crunch until I get chance to put my recon box on I've got........
Its also worth getting the injectors sonically cleaned as this has been know to help cold starting

..and make sure you check whether you've got a bosch or ducelier before you buy! And don't buy your ignition leads from Halfords, (they didn't fit mine - leads too long). Lumenition ones fitted pefectly tho..

i bought all my stuff from autofive the gti people in the back of evo magazine autofive
there is mayo in the breather & the rubber bung on the dipstick is missing so this explains the oil over the engine, there is a split in the water house which explains the loss of water, the head is now off & the gasket doesnt look too bad, the head is going to be skimmed but first check for any cracks, i'd rather just get a new head to be fair though.
I have a very rational view on this car that was meant to be cheap fun & that is i got it cheaper than perhaps i should have & had i paid £1000+ for a decent one then i would still have had to do the belt & a service, this way ive paid less then £600 & although i'll put in another £600 at least i know its done & done properly, the next question is do i lay the wrx up & take this on track instead also whats the general consensus in lowering springs? are they worth it as i intend to use this for track days?

If the oil filler still has the metal gauze in it - whip it out, most owners have and it helps a little with the mayo, it serves no real purpose.
If you're tracking it then you will do much better on springs (and adjusted rear torsions) though an all round sus setup not just springs would be best.

You could always try Colin @ Motorsportworld.co.uk, got all my pug tuning bits from him so far (ok so just a Magnex BB but still!!). The eibachs are pretty good on the 205 i hear. Nothing wrong with Autofive either - another good co.

Definately go for a lowering kit. I just fitted a Spax -50mm kit to mine (front springs and shocks all round) and reset the rear beam to match the ride height. The difference to the handling is great, definately recommended for track-days.

if i decide to keep mine (1.6gti) im probably gonna stick some of these on it - from autofive website..
Suspension kit - Bilstein Gas 'Streetline'-Top Quality at a very reasonable price! Front & Rear Dampers, with front lowering springs (-30mm)- full kit 189.00
least then, if ever want to have a go at rallying with her, bilstein are an acceptable make, you can only use std. or bilstein.

No offence , but no-one would recommend a -50mm drop on a 205 - max drop is really -30mm. -50 ***** the driveshafts and totally f*cks the handling - lift of oversteer... :0
Several Stock hatch racers are now running -30mm (ish) drops at front and standard ride height at rear to reduce the **** clenching lift off probs. But obviously also depends on what torsion bars, dampers and lb front springs you're running

£230 in total with delivery, ordered last week.
Really keen to fit them all now, but dont have time with Xmas etc, will have to wait til 2004. Then its on to the next phase, fixing the bloody engine
