controversial topic - DRUGS
#61
The irony of the whole cigarette/drugs debate is that the government is allowing the sale of the most potent and addictive drug of the lot. Even crack is not as bad as nicotine.
If you look at how much crack you need to take to get a hit it'd probably be in grammes (probably a quarter of a gram to hazzard a guess). Nicotine on the other hand is taken in micro grammes as any more would be dangerous. Ok so crack probably gives you the buzz of all buzzes but gramme for gramme nicotine is one dangerous **** of a drug. So much so much of the world has been hooked for years.

However legalising drugs would make them more accessible and would that then mean more takers who then "might" want a bigger buzz?
If we legalise charlie and weed would buzz hunters then be looking for lsd, crack, heroin - will the government legalise those? I doubt it - so then the crims still have a product to market.
Unless the govt legalise every drug then there will always be a big market for other stuff thats illegal. Alternatively there will be teams of chemists formulating 'new' drugs all the time - that would be a nightmare to control legally, amending laws to include new drugs etc etc etc
Personally I like a bit of white but havent done so for a long time.

i have probably done more Extasy in my life then alcohol
becuase IMO
drink = fighting and trouble
extasy = loved up and frendship
i shall give you a small example
i used to goto loads and loads of "raves" back in the days
now your talking a lot of "young" people going there and you would expect the police to think "trouble when they come out"
i never ever saw a police van/man ever when i left these events
why?
because they were all being used to break up the fights @ the "drinking" type clubs
i was clubbing a few weeks back @ a place i have never been before, when i enterd i knew it was a "drugs" club and not a "drinking" club
guess what was outside when i left @ 4am?
no police what so ever
i have more chance of crossing the road outside and being killed, then being killed by extasy.

‘Ere man, 'ave got more chance of being eat by a shark, hit by a comet, being bummed at a Barrymore pool party....So ****! There are more concerns over the long term effects of pills rather than just people 'chipping out' on them. The fact is the drugs that are sold as ecstasy are very neurotoxic and they just don't know whats going to happen users in later life.

gay point to make imo
theres one thing that human beings were really designed to do without failing
and thats dieing a death
no getting around it, id rather die knowing i had lived a proper eventfull life, instead of doing everything perfect in the hope of living for a extra year or so

The thing that differentiates drugs from alcohol is that drugs make you think whilst alcohol prevents you from being able to think.
IMO it's better to have a more active mental state but this does have it's drawbacks and I know a fair few casualties from 'back in the day'. Unfortunately I've even lost a mate as a result of long term drug use and the onset of paranoid schizophrenia. I personally don't have a problem with drugs but you do need to be pretty headstrong to beat the downers etc.
At the end of the day I think something needs to be done to reduce drug related crime i.e. legalisation, but then something also needs to be done to regulate drug use so that we don't end up with a country loaded with casualties.

MDMA has been around since the '70s, so there is some evidence of the long term effects. t5he evidence is that the evidence is inconclusive. long term users have lower seratonin levels but there is no evidence that they feel worse or are less happy as a result. i'm sure i have done (and continue to do) more damage to myself with alcohol then all the other drugs i've ever taken. there's a new year's resuolution for me
however much people rant and rave about the effects of drugs, people have taken them since the stone age and IMO will continue to do so, regardless of education, laws or anything else.

--The fact is the drugs that are sold as ecstasy are very neurotoxic and they just don't know whats going to happen users in later life--
Thats if they even contain any/much MDMA. The precursor chemicals for MDMA are tightly controlled by the government, making MDMA both risky and expensive to produce.
At the same time, consumer demand for MDMA is high. In order to cash in on MDMA's high demand, unscrupulous arseholes and manufacturers will sell substitute drugs that are less less expensive and/or less risky to produce, such as PMA, DXM, PCP, ketamine, methamphetamine, etc.
Unfortunately, many of these drugs are more dangerous that MDMA, and have been responsible for numerous deaths. This is simply the nature of the "war on drugs." Because prohibition means zero regulation, organized criminals can make huge profits selling fake drugs to unwitting consumers who are afforded no protection under the law.

He's a sound bloke, we both grew up together, I've know him since we were 5, and perhaps its better if you get any info over a 'secure' line.

carl and mj, it was wrong of me to say that i have never taken drugs, but never illegal ones. i have never smoked because i dont see the point in paying £4.50 a pack or whatever to comit a slow and painful suicide, the drugs i have taken i have not had any option, take them or die. i am talking about chemotherapy, i've been having cysplatin, methortrexate and doxrubicin for 6 months, other than that i have not taken any drugs. this has made me realise how valuble life is so seems like the most stupid thing in the world to gamble it just for a 'trip'

I probably have as much experience of drugs as most people on this BBS, and not just because of my job. Its a pity I cannot incriminate myself any more atm and tell you the full story, some of you may know why but as far as letting people know my true views I'm afraid this has been compromised recently by one individual.
At the end of the day this is one of those threads that will either be locked or serve so little purpose as far as experiences are concerned that the true picture will be as cloudy as the UK weather.
For what its worth the word drug comes from the Dutch, droog, meaning dry, and AFAIK I have no problem with a plant, that for whatever reason was put on this earth for a purpose. It’s up to each individual to decide for what this purpose was/is.
I have friends who have glaucoma who tell me this is a benefit that they clearly see (pardon the pun), I have friends with mental health problems who should definitely do without it, but again nothing is as simple as right or wrong as far as drugs are concerned.
I have opinions on other drugs but that is all they will seem.
