scooby or escort cossie????? discuss

Another ex-Cossie owner here...!
(4x4 Sapphire - last of the red top ones. The Escort was never more than a Sierra chassis with a kit bolted ontop )
I prefer the scoob because -
When driven sensibly day to day it's like driving a normal car, not a Transit van!
You can buy a new one with a warranty.
It sounds much better.
It doesn't break down.
Having said that, if Ford made a Cosworth now, I may well have bought one!
*Edited to say, I don't know why I mentioned a warranty... mine was out the window after 4 months anyway!*

Well Kev, dont think you need my opinion....
If it were me, i'd go for the Escort hands down.
Love the Scoobs..but there's just something about the cossies.
Why not sell the Escort and buy a "not so clean" 3 door for having fun in ?

the transit van statement is rubbish
to make an escort sound like a scooby i,d have to disconnect a couple of plug leads
plenty of scoobys break down.
johnny..i dont need an old car to rag round the track...you,v seen my escy at knockhill

partly right..the floorpan is 6"shorter than asierra also much lees overhang on the front and rear wheels...anyone who has been able to compare driving a sierra and an escort will telll you the escy is far better ..it has a much better turn in and the bodyshell is much stiffer as it was a properly developed for motorsport use ...not just a floppy 80,s family saloon with a cossie engine shoved in it
the transit van statement is rubbish

I suppose at the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference...
... I just decided to quit living in the past
Oh, and if you want a garage full of appreciating classics, would you not be better with a couple of Jaguar E-Types?
You'd make more with a savings account than you would with any old Ford, unless of course you have a GT40 tucked away .

Hey
Pete
I wouldn't say it was your Paddle i would just say it was the Cr1p Driver
LOL @ T-Uk
Just watch out for the stank cover's :P
Taz
Well there is a blast from the past, Got any new animals yet ??????
As for the question. I own a Scoob and I wanted a Escort Cossie for 3 year's and Diana managed to change my mind and get a scoob with in a week. But if i had enought money i would still want to get a Mallard Green or Aubergine Escort Cossie though for a play joy.
Cheers Dougie
They still look the dog's Bo11ocks though.

wrx,, you must have no feel for a good handling car if you prefer the floppy saff cossies
the mt75 box isnt as bad as some make out ..more often than not its worn out gearlever cradle bushes that make them feel sloppy..anyway i replaced mine with a proper GRP A 7speed
i,v already had an E type V12..but old classiics dont do it for me as i,m still only 33...i prefer the cosworth just now because when i,m an old codger i can go and look at them sitting in the garage and marvel at all the good times i had with them blowing away scoobs and evos!
edited to sort my typo,s

Kev,
The first box I had was as much use as a chocolate teapot and burst quite quickly due to all the ragging it was given on the strip m8. N0.2 broke through excessive 6K launches, No.3 broke through excesive 5K launches, No.4 lasted a fair whilst (25K)
once the paddle was removed and I stopped shock loading the gears through launching. No.5 lasted 30K and died due to a serious misselection of gear at high revs (driver brain fade) No.6 though has been well behaved (upto now) and I`ve changed driving to suit But yeah now u come to mention it maybe you`ve hot a point bout gearboxes
Doug, 2 words m8 "ave it" ya cheeky git

KEV,must say scooby isn,t that bad a car ,the problem is a lot of the owners buy them more as a fashion acessery,as many probly did in the late 80,s early 90,s with cossie,s,.maybe we come from a diffrent era and it,s the fact we where bought up with cossie,s.rwd, flares, duran duran etc etc,one last question y dont you ever hear the same debate between cossie and intergaralie owners

I chose my scoob because it was cheap and quick, if i could afford an escort i would ( although a R34 gtr would be nice). Although the escorts dont seem to be that quick, saw a guy at crail who even removed his top spoiler to cut drag but they were timing it with a callender which was fitted to time calders scoob lol.

Just to keep the arguement going. Just sold my Scooby road car for a BMW 330D mega comfort , plenty of power and lots of toys plus 45 mpg . Also sold me mk1 escort rally car for an Escort Cosworth rally car. It is an ex-works recce car with a Mountune engine and would blow most scoobys away in the woods or on the road !
