MY03 WRX's road presence

Read an interesting Autocar mag article approx 18 months ago it was about Staffs Police selecting their traffic / pursuit cars, they marked the cars for space to put their kit in, performance, handling and Road Presence the scoob (which was a bugeye wagon) got top marks in all but the space/practicality one it came top for road prescense, the Octavia RS for example was marked down for this because it was a Skoda (Unfair i know b4 I start a tavia RS argument!)however they figured a tea leaf seeing the police scoob behind them would be suitably intimidated! This due to the performance icon the scoob is whatever the shape, this is based on many years rally pedigree and good motoring press and hello - who won the Rally GB and drivers championship - Solberg in an 03 shape so the legend lives on!

this is a crap thread trying to slag off the new shape and i'm surprised it has attracted these replies.
in my opinion as a 03 owner, the wrx has enough road presence to enough motorists. there are not sufficient differences between the STI to the WRX (any shape) apart from the big rear wing to your mr. average motorist so who's to say the 03 STI doesn't have enough road presence?
so what if it's in your mind that the 03 doesn't have enough road presence? who cares? i certainly don't! I'm simply replying because i too am another owner who bought the 03 car strictly for performance and not for looks and this is not bollocks. if i wanted a nice looking car i would have got the new shape E merc which i regard as very stylish car. getting back on the subject, i really like the classic but the 03 model is a step up in subaru motor technology and it is not at all in keeping up with the neighbours![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
moreover, if the 03 does not have enough road presence to the average motorists then the classic certainly won't either because its like asking someone who does not drink coke to see if they prefer coca-cola or pepsi? as the classic and new shapes will look no different to these people (as obviously to you with Hyundai/Subaru
)...are you in this category?
however you could be a BMW enthusiast and in this case you'd be right that the 03 does not have enough road presence but then again no other vehicle on the road has either!

kna im not debating there ability to perform but there looks dont match there performance.
"so add a new bumper and a couple of aerodynamic go-faster stickers and you'd move over? it could be a a hyundai you know?!"
them 2 pictures look like rice rockets, dont really do anything for me sorry. plastic looking if u know what i mean.

Each to his own I guess. I have a Mk 1, classic, (and to the earlier poster, that's what they will become, no question), but really thought the bugeye design, was just an American market driven disaster, which would turn my next purchase elseware. Better dynamically, but physically flawed. Now the Mk 3 has returned some of the "looks", and, thankfully, puts a replacement Scooby back in the frame. But why the low level spoiler, don't they look rubbish ?

I'm another very satisfied Hyndai I mean Scoob owner ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
What's with this road presence any way nonsense anyway. Could be like the time I was parking me scoob alongside a 5 series BMW and set its alarm off. He He. Thanks H&S/Xtreme.
