ajm - I must agree.... Nothing quite like the massive pipes of a church organ. Unless it's the sheeps intestine attached pipes of a highland piper!!

Luke - Wasn't Rebecca Pidgeon the lead in Ruby Blue, and also does a bit of acting in her hubbys films and plays ?
My two penneth......
Loreena McKennit - The Visit - Bonny Portmore - For vocal and harp, and the rest of the album.
Cowboy Junkies - Pale Sun/Crescent Moon - Pale Sun - For guitar
Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live - Chocataw Hayride - For dobro/guitar/banjo, and for finally outclassing Hell Freezes Over in the DTS live concert recording league
Tracey Chapman - Tracy Chapman - Mountains 'o Things - For percussion
Dire Straits - Love Over Gold - Private Investigations - For transients, and predictability
The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over - Hotel California - For the intro, and DTS
Heather Nova - Siren - What a Feeling - I could marry her voice, I won't say what I'd do to her body.
Sarah MacLachlan - Surfacing - Adia - For production, and voice.
Eddi Reader - Mirmama - What You Do With What You Got - For lyrics, and a criminally ignored recording.
I could go on..........

Last night i had Madonna's "Vogue" going on the new system. I know i've mentioned it before, but that track has more going on in it that almost *any* other i can think of. Simply amazing effects.

From my (massive) vinyl collection from old stuff up to current promos, the best thing i have found for clarity in a recording is:
Talk Talk-i believe in you
One of the best recordings i have ever heard
Stick it on if you want to hear detail
A good all round test would be Madonna- (drowned world) substitute for love...
William orbt production, and he certainly knows how to get a fantastic sound

Now that's interesting - Talk Talk?
I was playing their Greatest Hits last night, and i have to say, after something like Madonna's Immaculate collection, or indeed Ray of Light, Talk Talk is spectacularly unadventurous. True, it's a Greatest Hits, which are never the best quality, but even so, it just sounded "ordinary" to me...

so how does the chord gear sound, Tel? have you rattled you foundations yet?
maybe we could also have a thread on which records are unlistenable on a half decent stereo. i'll get the ball rolling with:
oasis - what's the story morning glory
must be one of the worst produced/recorded albums of the decade. which is a shame, as i quite like some of the tunes.

Fookin ace mate! Took about three days warming up before they settled down, but tiredness is all that's dragging me away from them at the end of each evening now. Makes you want to listen to every cd you own all over again, as you hear things you've never heard before every time - can't ask for more than that!

ProperCharlie - I'll second that on Oasis. Add to that the earlier U2 albums prior to Joshua Tree. Superb songs, truly awful production. They'd probably make a mint if they revisited them and tidied them up a bit and put them out as some special edition digitally remastered collectors blah blah ripoff.
