Remove the ECU,
and the HT Leads,
and the live feed to the fuel pump.
Then enjoy your christmas.
Best of luck,
astraboy.

Remove the ECU
...sounds like a good idea.

Going off-topic ever so slightly, I wonder if it would be possible to make the ECUs plug'n'play, like loading/unloading a cartridge (DIN-format configuration?). That way you could remove it for security purposes and/or have multiple ECUs with different maps. i.e. a 'fun'-mapped ECU and another for economy.

One we used to do.. place a headphone socket in line with the fuel pump... when the male phone socket was in - fuel pump worked - when it was removed - no fuel... simple

Just hide the jack female socket!

Thanks everyone for the support/advice. Have put the car on "Was it you" , phoned the old bill with the number. Tbh I thought the lads in the car looked very young to be driving an Impreza , I'm 30, so not ancient yet, they looked 17/18? Perhaps they were delivering stockings , but they shot off when they saw me , which made me slightly suspicous. Mind you I looked a state.....
Car has pretty good security , Cat1 alarm/immob , additional immobiliser , and Gearbox barrier deadlock.
Will keep the website posted if anything occurs.
Cheers!

If the ECU were removed temporarily (for security of other reasons) would this have the effect of resetting it? i.e. losing all info 'learned' from running?

Fatman, i would expect so

I've been in the process of knocking down and rebuilding the walls to my and my bros gardens, then levelled them all and made a long drive with metall fencing and big gates at the end, aint completed yet and was thinking last night its pretty safe around where i live and guess what happens christmas eve? not my scoob (had left that at work place locked up till i get insurance sorted) someone broke the window to bros peugot 406 and smashed stereo (couldn't get it out) and this is on christmas eve
Made me more eager to get the drive way paving in and the gates padlocked, i know car can be still taken but daarn hard to get to scooby which will be at the end of three two other motors make it as hard as you can for em the only way to deter them really.. or a baseball bat as a presy would deter nicely

Similar thing happened up here (Leicestershire) the plod had heard that a gang of car theives were due to come from Birmingham to swipe high performance motors from around this area over crimbo, the police then took it upon them to drive around looking for high performance cars and warn the owners.

They knocked at my door as they spotted my STi on the drive way, told me to make sure I garaged the motor and kept my keys in a safe place.

Since this warning I have fitted a CCTV camera and the garage is now connected to the house alram plus the scooby had 1K of security fitted (Tracker & Clifford)

Also purchased an Alloy baseball bat and a can of pepper spray!

So bring it on!!!

Garage the car sure but surely they should be advising you to keep the keys in a prominent place downstairs and to not confront them and let them have the car if they break in!!!!

Matt.
