no, he said uk cars are disapointing.

Owned mine 18 months, big grin every time i drive it.

I know a jdm is more powerful and quicker 0 - 60 etc, does it bother me.

NO

I am not bothered if you have more BHP or sprint is quicker, when i bought mine i got excactly what i wanted, could have bought a jdm (girl friend did) but bought my uk turbo with full subaru history, prodrive bits etc, dont give a sh*t if yours is faster.

Then again i dont rwad Max flower either, so BHP is not important to me.

As i said, personal preference.

If i want a good thrash down the lanes, jdm is superb, motorway prefere my uk. Thats me

i will gladly take on "any" standard JDM in my UK scoob and wipe the smiles off your faces, I only have a grands worth of mods and can save that in a year in insurance and octane booster, think before you type, also consider why these JDM's are here in the first place cos they are the real deal but have to be imported, like a fine wine, we cant produce the stuff but can import it at a premium.

Here we go.....

First Scooby i test drove was a UK 2000 turbo, after a year of driving a GSI Vectra (did i say that out loud) i was most dissapointed by its performance. It did seem to dig in a bit better but it didnt have that 'edge' that i was hoping for as it was my first scoob experience. I almost kept the Vectra
2nd test drive, also a UK car but this time a MY00 model, this did seem a bit better than the vectra but still left me wondering if the extra insurance was worth selling the vectra.
A local garage got a 96WRX in stock and i thought to myself that i had to have a try before i decided totally against getting a scoob....
Was the best thing i could have done, It had the edge that i was hoping for... Everything i was looking for that wasnt there in the Vectra was there in the WRX...
2 weeks later i picked up my own WRX...

No Doubt there are going to be some people that dont like me comparing a Rep car to a Scoob, but that fact of the matter was that if i had not test drove that WRX... I would probably still have the GSI.

Yeah you can Mod UK cars to Jap spec, But what's the point?? by the time you have paid for and declared the mods to your insurance the costs must be close to the Jap premium?? Not so in every case but... you get my point..

More dealers are supplying parts for Jap cars now, and although the Jap cars dont come with the same warranties once you have decatted/Non Subaru upgrade the warranty is invalid.

How many UK owners have bought a UK scoob because they want to have the peace of mind with a warranty?? how many have invalidated that with mods not long after??

If you are looking for a standard car with a Warranty, a UK car is perfect..

Shoot me down in flames but i have so many friends that have bought UK scoobs and are gutted they didnt go with an import.

Rant over

Rob

p.s. it is well n good wanting Subaru UK to sort it out, but it isnt going to happen... why should they when they can charge a premium for jap performance in a UK car..

I've driven UK standard, UK with PPP , P1, UK WRX, UK WRX with PPP, STI Type UK, JDM STI Type R and 22B, all of them were great but different in more ways than one although anyone who's into scoobs will probably know that before they turn the key.
It would be pretty sad if all models/people were the same which is why i find some of the replies on this thread a bit strange (should we insist Subaru only do one colour in future ?) Everyone has different priorities and want different things from their Scoobs.
I am more than happy with mine as it's an allrounder even though there are faster examples out there.

Cheers Simon

I have to agree with the inital poster to a degree: out of the box the UK spec classic is a bit lame, compared to it's JDM counterpart. My first spin in an Impreza was of the JDM breed and the back of my head was velcro'd to the head rest.

A decat and Tek 2 does do it some justice though

The recipe is...take one UK MY00 Impreza and decat it. Add one very decent driver and place on twisty, bumpy Cambridgeshire B roads and then eat the oppostion.

after years of lusting over the impreza, when i finally had a test drive in a std uk car iwas very disapointed and wondered what all the fuss was about, tested a few more but still got the same feeling.
i then saw a jdm and it took it for a spin....wow..felt totally different and how i thought it wouldsold
at the local meets we go for a blast and i can't see much difference between mine and a std uk until you get in 4th and 5th gears....but it still isn't much in it.

Hello everyone, just got back from work! so merry christmas to you all.......even if you don't rate uk scoobs!! But.... there's always a but isn't there, A uk scoob with mods will more match a standard jdm, and still be easier and cheaper to run and insure. Mine- uk my/00 every PPP mod available, declared L&V £485.00. Whats your premium for a std jdm?

To all the people criticising the original post, re-read it! He isn’t slagging off the UK car, he is merely comparing the differences between the models.
All the cars are good, some better than others. He is talking about the comparisons between a standard, non modified JDM and UK car.
When I was looking to buy one, I was initially unimpressed with the standard UK car I test drove. A few weeks later, I had the opportunity to try a JDM. I couldn’t believe it was essentially the same car. It wasn’t just the fact that more power and lower gearing made it feel much faster than the UK car. The equipment level is also superior etc. So, in my opinion, I didn’t even consider buying the UK model when I could have the real thing.

I love all Scoobies, JDM, UK from Mars, whatever. We drive them for a reason. Its like going to school saying My dad can beat up yours. lets all grow up a little.
I'd love to have my car now, but some uninsured tosser drove into me last on Monday and now I have a Loan Vauxhall Corsa....I got My V2 pipe on Tuesday monring as they were loading my car onto transporter

One thing about imported cars, going to see R34's for a mate of mine, when you start seeing little stickers hidden, 0-400, 0-800 and circuit stickers you get a bit worried about how many times these things might have been raced.Lets just hope your cars havent seen too many miles of Suzuka..

Having read all the replies it makes me laugh, first off Gedi wasn't saying the uk is crap he was merely pointing out maybe Subaru could have offered a bit more to us, I don't agree with the Alfa bit but that's my choice.
The really annoying thing is all the other people that come out of the closet and start slagging off UK cars, quotes like "UK cars are gay" etc. Get a life! At the end of the day we all drive cars WE have chosen and if we were not happy we would change them. People also drive cars for certain reasons, yes I've got a UK and it's a wagon. I'm more than happy with the car, fair enough it may not be the quickest or the fastest but I'm happy with it.
I've driven in runs and I think that the difference between a UK and JDM is not worth mentioning, in standard form, was behind a Type RA on a fast run and kept up no probs, fair enough at over a 100mph he might pull away slightly but how many roads can you sustain that kind of speed for a significant amount of time.
My next car will be a UK and strike me down with a lightning bolt it will be an STI 7 bugeye but again that's my choice.
So why can't we all live together and stop slagging off each others cars, at the end of the day I thought that most Scooby drivers were adults but almost every day my thoughts change when I see some posts.

Dave

Hope everyone had a great christmas and hope everyone has a great new year!!

PMSL @ UK cars are GAY

Fair point about the insurance, my WRX in std spec was £600 to insure, but does your UK have aircon? Does the PPP give you uprated suspension?? does PPP cost £1600?? working it out... say you pay £200 per year less than me for insurance (for ex.) that is 8 years of motoring before you save any money.. dont even get me started on PPP (**** poor package)...

Anyways, i have been quoted £1500 for insurance one my type R... But you pays your money... Plus my Type R isnt quite how subaru intended

Really dont mean to slag the UK owners off, but it really does seem like Subaru UK take the **** when it comes to costs. It also seems like a lot of UK owners hide behind the Myth that you are much better off with a UK scoob... Fair point about Insurance, cant argue with that.
But...
Like others have said, facts! Lets not Compare a Type Ra with a UK scoob unless we are gonna talk realistically here... Laugh.. I nearly pissed myself

Merry Xmas

I did and brought the RA. There is much more than just power, the matched gearbox to fully utilise the engine. As for a UK STI PPP is more powerful. @ 300bhp, yep I can go with this but it needs to lose 250kgs kerb weight against a Type R/RA and 200kgs against a P1. Power to weight boys . My car with mods is banging on the door off 235-240bhp/ton, or about the same as a new M5.

I must admit my UK when I had it felt quick and was a superb car but my RA is different, more hectic, more noisy, more powerful. Is it better, well made be for some, maybe not for others.

Oh yes Tween take a look. PPP, Prodrive suspension, Prodrive 330mm brakes and calipers, Prodrive 18" wheels, Prodrive quickshift. And still only £485.00 to insure!!!
