That was price for PPP at subaru - but on one of my bookmarked car websites it was highlighting how quickly the 330 had appeared after people buying the 300 and that £500 was a great buy for existing FQ300 users only. Will try and find link for you.

nope i'm wrong - you're right.

The FQ330 retains all of the FQ300's distinguishing features and to produce a further 30 bhp, two specific modifications are made:

1. A supplementary ECU is hard-wired to the cars existing engine management system, the unit controlling ignition timing and air/fuel mixture.

2. A revised waste-gate actuator ferrule is installed, which increases turbo-charger boost to 1.4 bar at peak pressure, which falls well within accepted engine and turbocharger tolerances.

Both of these modifications can also be carried out by Mitsubishi Ralliart dealers, allowing existing FQ300 customers to upgrade without having to buy a new car. All FQ300 owners can upgrade and have the extra 30bhp for £1500 (incl VAT) + fitting charge. Ralliart dealerships can fit the upgrade in just two hours.

To visually distinguish the new FQ330, its package will include black Alcantara leather seats, complete with in-set Ralliart logo. Cars will display FQ330 identity and, as with the rest of the Evolution VIII range, each will be individually numbered.

Unfortunately the car costs £31,995 Ralliart supplied.

Spec C is £27995 I think.

Is it 4K worth. Wonder what 4k of mods would be like on the Spec C

I'd like to see an out of the box Spec C go against a FQ330.
Does anyone have the faq's of a STANDARD Spec C?

I should imagine the Spec C that was tested had 4K spent on it!

When something go's wrong with the Spec C and your left without a Subaru warranty, you'll know where the extra 4K went.

Cheers mate, I've got that copy. It makes for an interesting read. Especially those in gear times!
Don't want to sound like a broken record, but, that Spec C aint standard.
I know that there is a difference in price, but that's not the point. If we start talking about modin', then the EVO is gonna win every time.

I'm just interested in both cars and how they perform in standard guise.
As yet, I don't know of any test of a Spec C that wasn't a Litchfeild car. Not knocking Litchfeilds, he's doing scoobs and scoob drivers a service by bringing the Spec C to the UK and for bringing attention to the Spec C via the incredible amount of motoring press coverage.

The thing is, Subaru UK does not even have an answer for the FQ300, let alone the FQ330 and MR.

Subaru UK really need to get their act together by introducing the Spec C (or similar) to the UK and by making sure that the 2006/7 Impreza is not another but plug, uglier than the banjo playing kid from deliverence.

(IF you aint seen deliverence, you aint gonna beleive how ******* ugly, weird and down right freeky the kid with the banjo is )

Some info for you..

Mitsubishi Motors is pleased to announce that it will launch the new Lancer Evolution VIII MR in April next year with pricing starting at £27,999 for the standard 280 model. Mitsubishi Motors UK will, of course, offer FQ-300 and FQ-330 models for those customers who still want that little bit extra under the bonnet.

New Lancer Evolution VIII MR to be launched in the UK in April 2004 £23,999 entry-level Evolution VIII to join the range in April 2004

This isn’t the only Evolution news. Joining the range in April will also be a new Evolution VIII, available for just £23,999 on the road. Called the Lancer Evolution VIII 260, this model will really take the fight to Subaru’s doorstep and is expected to help double Evolution sales during 2004.

Mitsubishi Evolution VIII Line-Up (on-sale from April 2004)
Evolution VIII 260 £23,999
Evolution VIII MR 280 £27,999
Evolution VIII MR FQ-300 £29,999
Evolution VIII MR FQ-330 TBA

The FQ330 MR has got to be putting in times of 4.stupid to 60mph and 10.stupid to 100mph.
It sounds like the Spec C's reighn is over.

The EVO (car) in EVO (magazine) was a FQ300 and not a FQ330. the FQ330 was only released on December 1st.

I've heard that the EVO MR will only be available with 280bhp.
I don't think they are gonna do a FQ300 MR & FQ330 MR.
I've heard the EVO VIII Extreme kicks *** with 337bhp.
I'm sure we'll have a EVO VIII RS Sprint soon too.

I wonder which will be the fastest? Does anyone know what the different spec on all these different EVO models are?

Hi Dougie - back on the 5th of Jan, bored of my brand new motor after having it since July this year, always liked the EVO 6 but fuel tank was something like 47 litres. EVO Extreme sounds nice but will probably take a hit on depreciation on mine. Also seen a nice import in White of a year 2002 Skyline GTR34 which has put the cat amongst the pigeons.
Look forward to seeing/hearing your new toy.

That's one ugly ******* car!
Given that the car is "276bhp" is a re-map and exhaust the only things done to reach the claimed 335bhp of Litchfeild's car?

I really want to like the looks of this car, but I can't, it just doesn't look as good as the EVO.
I think I may have to set my sights on a Skyline GT-R 34.

Wonder why they all have WRX spoilers instead of STi or SPEC C carbon fibre wing.

Have to agree R34 is sounding sweet and looks sweet - and more gadgets than NASA mission control, G-force meter, 0-60, 0-100 timers, sat nav, 550bhp for very little little extra outlay and is still meant to be reliable at this power. Can go to 1200bhp if you have the cash.

You just don't look at a Spec C and say wow. You have to respect what the car can do, but it aint' no stunner.

Is it right that a 500bhp Skyline can do 0-100 in sub 9 seconds?

Think the best i've heard of is Dave Jones' Hyperlemon - 1000bhp r34 and it is something like 8.23 secs. Cost £110,000 apparently. But he can afford it - wrote lemmings, GTA etc and then sold company for £35 million and still runs company. He also has GT1, GT2, GT3, Diablo, 355, 360 etc etc. All with DMA 1, DMA2 etc number plates. He used to sell me cracked games for the amiga computer when he worked in Timex in Dundee - how things change.

I thought a 1000bhp Skyline would be quicker than that, not that it's slow!
A 4.5 Cerbera (420bhp) can hit 100 in 8.3 and I saw a 750bhp GT-R33 take the Cerbera apart.
That was on one of Clarkson's programme's a few years back.

A nice 500bhp GT-R34 V Spec I or II in bayside blue would do me just fine.

Remember the video well - also remember a certain capri which left the cerbera for dead - think its an aston martin tickford, no spoilers or fancy alloys.

EVERY YEAR the 0-100-0 throws up surprises, but this year it surprised even us. We didn't know what the Stealth B6 was really capable of before it appeared at Millbrook. After it beat the yardstick Porsche 911 GT1 to the fastest time of the day, we could only begin to speculate what it might do once its development is complete.

We intend to retest the Stealth once owner Louis Davidson has fitted some grippier tyres. But for the time being he'll just have to be satisfied with the second-fastest 0-100-0 time ever.

Back in the more real world of hot hatches, the Renault Sport Clio finally showed a clean pair of heels to its nearest opponents. In the group above, the £22,000 Camaro proved once and for all that there ain't no replacement for displacement.

In the £50,000 category the Caterham ruled supreme, but the biggest upset was caused by the Audi RS4, which comprehensively outgunned the Evo Extreme and Lotus 340R. Not bad for an estate car.

Up among the rarefied ranks of the ultimate production machines. Porsche proved once again that there is only one marque to think of when it comes to going and stopping fast, although the fact that the 360 Modena beat the 911 Turbo will be much appreciated by the folks at Maranello. Special mention should go to

Dave Jones's Skyline GT-R for one of the most dramatic 0-100mph runs we've ever seen.

But in truth the day belonged to the Stealth B6, undoubtedly one of the most impressive sports cars Autoear has encountered in years. When it breaks the McLaren Fl's 11.S0sec record -which we strongly suspect it will - we'll be there to report on it. You can count on that.
