Put the effort in, the rewards will eventually come. You seem to be suffering from the misconception that life is fair ?

There is loads of stuff you want to buy and do, but you dont have the cash therefore you will get the 10k a year job and subsidise it with a fantastic line of credit and then wake up in three years 20 grand in debt like the rest of the country seems to have done.

You dont need designer gear, the latest phone, a Scoob, an Ipod etc etc. look at what you actually need and it aint much, shop at Matalan, Aldi etc if your skint, I know this may not be good enough for you and you have an image to keep up but you are a jobless lad of what about 18 ? try and forget about the bullsh1t put the hours in, its the only way.

Just because people on here seem to spend wads on nice stuff, think its either not theirs (credit), they have inherited or they have put the effort in got the qualifications and earnt some proper money (or all three, or the last two like me)

If you live at hone 10 grand a year should be enough if you are sensible.

DONT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET INTO BIG DEBT !!!!

I think Cha0s has got what seems common with the youth of today.
These kids just dont have the get up and go about them like people used to. They just dont use their innitiative.

They expect everything to be put into place for them then cry foul when they dont get their own way.

Ive got a few in work with me.We call them the handcarts because unless they are pushed and steered into doing something they would stay in the same spot all day.

Cha0s,
Just for once in your pathetic little life. Grow up.

I would echo what J4cko says.

I really messed up by trying to live a lifestyle that my salary didn't support.

Hence 8 years after leaving college I owe a huge amount of money (see previous posts!) and have a very limiting monthly budget.

Think about it before you live beyond your means.....

chaos. - I've got a certain scenario in mind. I'm in a fairly influential position in a multi-national oil company. When I interview, I usually ask about car preference. So here's how it goes ...

Numptie - So what car do you drive ?

Chaos - I don't drive, I aint passed me test yet like.

Numptie - OK, that's fine, so what sort of car do you aspire to ?

Chaos - One of them Scoobaroo Imprettssa turbo ones ... they're the dogs' !

Numptie - Excellent, I happen to have an interest in that particulat model myself. Have you ever seen the ScoobyNet website ?

Chaos - Yes, I post under the username 'Chaos' ! - that's really cool man that we visit the same BBS !

Numptie - Security, please remove this little oxygen theif from my office !

Be careful of the internet boy ! - you **** !

Chaos, I have a suggestion.

Go and learn to cut hair. I am serious. You're what, 16? Get in there and learn how to do it well. Train with a really good salon where they actually pay quite good wages while you train.

When you're qualified you will earn good money, and you can also do home haircutting for extra income.

It beats working in an office. You meet lots of people. And it's creative which is more than can be said of being an accounts clerk or something equally boring.

I will get flamed for suggesting this, but who cares?

That's the trouble with the youth of today, they think the world owes them a living.

Why don't you go on holiday and on the way back, destroy your passport and claim asylum. You'll get a nice council house, and £16k in your pocket tax free. You'll probably get a voucher booklet as well when you sign on that entitles the bearer to:

All the satellite channels/Sky +
Free Beer
Free ****
Random old white goods to put in your front garden
A MOT Failure (which you ARE allowed to drive)
A Screwdriver set to take all your internal doors off
New furniture EVERY November 5th (when you burn the old stuff)
Full decoration service every 12 months (including replacement of the doors which are now either burnt or laid in the front garden)
Random "weathered" child garden toys
An old motorbike frame (possibly even a rolling chassis)
A garden shed
A Moto-X bike of some description (or location of one you can nick)

Maybe I'm just bitter and twisted

And you'll get to meet lots of top totty, who won't be expecting you to come onto them because they'll assume you're gay...

Thought I'd get that response.

Chaos - go and become an accountant or a solicitor because it'll sound good when you're down the pub. You'll be bored to tears, but that doesn't matter, it's what other people think about you that matters most.

Hey, I know someone who became a hairdresser and said that one of the benefits was all the totty he could pull

Personally, I wouldn't have a problem doing it.

Well, it was just a suggestion. All I was trying to get across to him is that people are obsessed about doing something they perceive to be a 'good job', but forget they have to do it day in day out so it's vitally important to do something they enjoy.

I made the mistake of doing something that 'sounded good', but turned out to be totally unsuitable for me. Basically wasted 7 or 8 years of my life.

Actually i agree with chaos.
10k is crap, whatever the job and however few qualifications.....its pants.
And there is a limit where i would rather do nothing than work for crap pay.

As for the M3......niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice motor.
Was at the video store last night and there was a beatiful dark blue one, last years model, parked outside.Spent most of the time not looking for a film but trying to guess who it belonged to.Ended up a really nice looking girl around 25ish.

Fantastic motor....

Personally, I couldn't own an M3. Whenever I see one it makes me think "w**ker", particularly an E36. And, to anyone other than a petrolhead, it just looks like any other 3-series.

so what would you like to be paid in these circumstances? the thing is, there's a market - jobs are advertised at 10k and people take them. if it's above minimum wage, it's legal. i don't agree with people being exploited, but i think 10k is ok for someone living at home with no expenses. my first job paid £7,800, with no sick pay (not even SSP), and 10 days a year paid holiday. that wouldn't be legal now, but i still got on with it.

Hey, my first job paid £6,600 (in 1994, after graduation). Followed a few months later by a vast jump (when I left) to £12,300
Left that job after about 3 years on £16.5k, then started another on £21k. By the time I left that (another 2 years, IIRC) I was on £32k. Been contracting ever since, so not easy to compare.

As they say, you have to start somewhere. The experience from the few months at <£7k got me the interview for the next job. The experience from there got me the next job, and the experience gained there allowed me into contracting.

It depends on the job i guess.
If it leads somewhere then okay, but there are jobs at 10k that lead nowhere,.......except to another 10k job.

Not for me.
