Luke , yeah what would a security proffesional know about these things i'm sure you'd show em the way to go,

Terrorism is the new "Buzz word " at the moment. But if Airline security is under a major threat and they feel the need to put a team of marshals on a specific plane. Then I hope the captain has the sense to cancel the flight for all concerned.

From personal experience I can fully understand the attitude of Balpa to the idea of carrying Sky Marshals. I know that rounds have been developed that are less likely to puncture the aircraft fuselage but nevertheless it would still be unbelieveably dangerous to have a pitched battle going on in the aircraft. So far the Sky Marshals have not demonstrated their abilities in a real situation as far as I know.
As the aircraft Captain, I would be loth to lose any authority to the marshals either. The Captain is always the final authority on an aircraft, or a ship for that matter and he is the best person to command the situation since he has full knowledge of the operation of the aircraft or ship even.
As was suggested, the best way at the moment is strict security at the airports before the aircraft has even been boarded. It can't be denied that it is a very difficult problem to prevent or to deal with should it happen. Maybe the knockout gas is a good idea if it could be installed in full safety.

Its just more posturing by this dumb **** government of ours! I can imagine Blunkett and co sitting around thinking.
No it isn't.
It's a simple fact that the yanks wouldn't let British operators fly into the states unless it was introduced.
