Became the typical boy racer when a bad accident forced me away from motorbikes to cars in early 90s, the uaual gti's r5 turbo 325i etc.I took notice of Subarus (imprezas) when they started winning the rallies but they were well out of my league.I grew up a bit did the house/wife thing and put them out of my mind for a long time, but started buying the trader every week for a dream,I would turn to the Imprezas 1st every week,I remember my gaffer saying to me just after I got married 3 years ago "what are you looking for?" and replying "just dreamin about these Imprezas, there getting cheaper but Ive got no chance," he assured me that you never know and he was right much saving and sweating later 2000AWD Turbo in the garage.Had it 8 months close to being obsessed, love it to bits the only car I'd swap it for is another one.

COLIN McRAE. What more do I need to say. The man sold the Impreza for Subaru. He sold them to me anyway. So much so that I now have an RA, cause its the closest you can get to a rally car without buying a rally car.

Went on a track day with UDrive, which use STi7 and EVO 7. Never liked the look of the Scooby bugeye, but loved both cars I tried but EVO 7 was stupidly fast.
Decided that the Scooby WRX would be more sensible for a road car. Bought one 5 months later (once loan on existing car had completed). Had it one year now and still love it, but already planning STi8 as my next car.

Always liked the look of em',and heard about the decent build quality and reliability.

Made my mind up on the first test drive i had , completly different to anything else i had ever driven and that was it,i was a instant scooby fan.

Had my Scooby for two and a half years now and never had any problems with it, apart from replacing tyres and wear and tear items.

Will most certainly have another, mine is a classic MY00, i'd like to think in a couple of years that i may be able to replace with a brand spanker.

The owner let me have a test drive in my MY94 STI. At first with the flat four exhaust note I thought it would be a bit slow when we were on a side road. as soon as I booted it initially and then took a corner I know well, then it took about 2 seconds to decide I had to have it!

I must be a bit of an oddity then... I watched the rallying and fell for the Impreza there.

I got a lift in a workmates for all of about ten minutes.

Something was planted in my head though because one day I thought I'm going to have one... and I did.

People grin at the colour and used to laugh at the lights (Green MY01) but now most people just gasp at the mileage and comfort me over the resale value!

I love the Scoobs I would have nothing else...

My girlfriend used to live and work near to our local dealer so I used to pass the forecourt most days. I was already into the rallying side of things and from the first time I looked round a classic I really wanted one. It took me years to get to a position where I could afford one and as soon as the facelifted MY03 came out I had to have one.

Took it for a testdrive (knew I would love it and sure enough I did!) and bought it the same day. 10 months on and its far and away the best car I've ever had the pleasure to own. Add to that the fun I've had on days/weekends out with other local owners from the SMACS group and its all I want from motoring at the moment.

I used to commute to work by motorbike but was having too many near misses on the M25. Decided that a scoob was probably the best and safest way of getting to work and back.
I bought a MY00 last year spent a small fortune getting it to it's current state of modification and now I enjoy every moment driving it.

Sometime back in 96 or 97, was up on the Cat and Fiddle road driving some old Cavalier or something. Something green with a strange hole in the bonnet came up very fast, sat behind me briefly, then overtook and just vanished. Was a lot like a UFO experience

Didn't know what the **** it was, but something got stuck in my brain that just wouldn't budge. Put two and two together once I started following Mcrae and co in the WRC. Had as much chance of buying one back then as sending a probe to Mars. But, quit my job in 98 to go freelance, and in March 99 took delivery of a 4 door MY99 in DBM. Soon after that, everyone had one - but who gives a **** when you're at the wheel

Thumbs up

Take it that was me then Haxzer - That was a fun drive (Apart from a slippy moment on that right hander )

I was into rallying anyway so got my Love of Scobbies from there.

The company wouldnt give me one as a company car when I was 21 so went for a Saxo VTS (insurance issues ).

Then Dropped out of the Company Car scheme in '02 and bought an Astra Club, saved some money, turned 25 in Jan 03 then in March 03 found and bought a DGM MY99 and still

My next car will be a Scooby for definate.

Did the Pug GTi 1.9 game back in 90's - then slid down the responsible family man route with 405 diesel estate, company motors (various sizes/shapes of Fords)etc. Family grew, need for 2nd car developed. Then saw smart Impreza Wagons at Silverstone leg of Round Britain Rally, and reminded me of fun drive I'd had in a Catalunya at Fleet Car Show. Four determined months later owned a 96 Turbo Wagon, then July last year traded up to WRX03 PPP.

Well and truly bitten.
Been away for 10 days - just had to go for a blast last night.

Always liked them since they first came out, to expensive at the time, been just a pipe dream ever since due to new house, growing family etc.

Then in May my wifes best mates husband bought a Sport which made me a little bit green, then 3 months later he realised he had made a mistake and bought a Turbo, I took it out a couple of times a week after he bought it and that was it, had to have one even though my wife is on maternity leave and we are financially strapped, she starts back in 2 weeks though, so we should be back on a even keel sometime soon.

No regrets at all even though it costs a small fortune to run, will keep it as long as I can and if things are going well trade up to an 03 model.

Cheers

Bought a GX in 2002. Perfectly good car, drove well, felt secure on the road, but not quite right.
Changed it for a MY01 WRX wagon earlier this year, after persuading the wife that needed a bigger boot.
"No dear, I'm really not sure what the funny scoopy thing in the bonnet is"
Love it, smile every day when driving, buying one for the wife later in the year.

I have had quite a few "fast" cars.. MkI Golf GTI, MKII 16V GTI, Series 1 & 2 RS Turbos etc, then went for a 325I Cab after gettin rid of that, I went and looked at an L reg WRX but couldnt afford the import insurance price tag! So I went for a VR6 which I kept for the longest time I have ever had a car.. year and a half!! Traded that for an Audi A3 1.8T Sport. Nice car but no real get up and go. Anyway, a few weeks ago, I was driving past a Citron dealership (wouldnt normally pay too much attention u understand ) and there on the forecourt was a silver scooby, what I thought was a WRX. The second time I drove past it, I stopped for a closer inspection and realised it was a UK model. So later that day I called the garage for more info, the minute the salesman told me the mileage (28k), I booked a test drive there and then.

I picked the car up last Monday and Im still grinning like a cheshire cat now. It kinda makes it easier to get up for work in the morning knowing I have a 60 mile drive there and back :-) ;-)
