CTR...great car. Come on, almost 100BHP per litre from an NA is pretty good going. But, please lets not compare it to the likes of an M3 (E36 or E46), nevermind a 911.

I spanked a CTR a while back in the MR2 a couple weekends ago. Ok am not standard, but there were bus lengths from about 40 to 80 odd MPH.

CTR is nothing but a grocery getter. And a VERY FAST one at that.

Actually guys as a bimmer owner I'd like to fight for the bimmer, but in truth have you driven an E36 3.0 M3 lately? hardly a rocket ship fellas.

I don't think on the road in a drag (excluding a standing start) say from 40- 120 or so CTR might not be too far off a pre Evo E36 3.0 M3 or E30 M3, I can't find the power to weight ratio of an E36 3.0 M3 but using "EVO" mag figs a standard E30 M3 (220 bhp version) is only 178bhp per ton, a CTR = 166.

Yes the E36 has 280 somat bhp but its a lardy sod at somat like 1500kg, I don't think the power to weight ratio is that much greater than the old E30, not that much torque on 'em either.

A 3.2 Evo is higher at 215bhp per ton & new E46 M3 at 219bhp per ton (CSL 255bhp per ton)all of which- esp the CSL, should indeed sod off into the distance rather more easily.

Hmm, a CTR being spanked by a MR2, i guess it must have been a turbo to "spank a CTR" either that or the driver of the CTR was a 5 year old
I have no delusions of grandure about the CTR but to call it a "Grocery getter" is a bit harsh. The looks are in my opinion great, dont forget its all about personal preferences. The Subaru is a family 4 door saloon that could IMO be a proton with big spoilers and a scoop
Ok, dont get me wrong here please, i really do like Scoobys and have a lot of respect for them on the road too so dont flame me.

Back to the original part, what mods have been done to you MR2, i'd gladly put my CTR on a strip against it, though mine isnt standard either

I am sorry, but the post about the CTR Vs. 911 just makes me laugh. CTR's are a hot hatch and against the other hot hatches like a a Saxo will probably kick it's ***, but against a full blown sports car like a 911, no chance, they are a different league. I own a very highly modded WRX which i always claimed/thought to be hugly powerful and it is against other cars in it's class (scoobies, evos') but i got the chance to have a go in a Ferrari F40 on a track day i was at and they are just in a different league, sure the 0 - 60 times of the cars are only 2/3 seconds apart, but there really is NO comparison

I dont know, I came across a new 911, I assume one of the GTs cause of the bodykit. I was behind him, and he was waiting for a car to get out of the outside lane, and we were doing 70. Car in front moved, and he left me like I was standing still. I think its about the only time I have seen a car like that actually have its power used.

Turbo...1.5 times the HP and double the torque (for sure)

i think most petrol heads (me included) know the limitations of our cars and it is just the few that think that they can beat anything and everything. Put a UK Civic against a UK Imprezza and the CTR will win, put the same CTR against a slightly modded or Jap Imprezza and teh Scoob will say goodbye/adios amigos to the CTR. Its all horses for courses. My CTR will get spanked by most Scoobs and anything the same such as Evo's and above, i just love my CTR

The M3 3.0 weighs 1460 KG. BMW quote their kerb weights with a 65 - 70 kilo driver and 7 kilos of luggage.

With 286 HP, it makes a peak power-weight ratio of 194 HP/1000 KG.

At any speed, a stock CTR will not keep up with a stock M3.

A supercharged K20 coul;d be putting out atleast 260BHP, coupled with a car that is lighter, might be quite a side by side battle.

I think the CTR is very underated, I don't like it, but a well driven one, is very quick, my old 1.6 CTR gave a lot of scoobs modded/standard a good pasting.

I doubt he whooped it. Don't like either car BTW

I picked up my CTR today as a replacement for my RB5 due to loads of problems i've had with it from day 1 anyway the CTR is very quick once its in VTEC but nowhere near 'whooping' an M3, i love it!!

Nice to see someone sticking up for the BM Iguana but I've gotta disagree-I take it you dont actually own a 3L M3 or an E30?

In standard guise the 3L is 286 bhp and 236lb at 3600rpm against the Evos 321 bhp and 258lb at 3300rpm. Different on paper but in the real world? In tests on tracks and on roads the standard 3L is neck and neck with the Evo up to approx 90-100mph when the evo will slowly pull off but then theres that restrictor at 155 that the Evo hits whereas the 3L keeps going.

The Evo is slower on paper up to 60 as well. Dont get me wrong I'm only saying that non-evo owners shouldnt be slating a car just cos it hasn't got the Evo tag. Also, figures are for stock 3L, thats not even considering a de-cat'ed 3L.

A cheetah can accelerate to 60mph in about 3.5 seconds, highest record top speed 71mph!

Just thought I'd share that useless fact. Accelerates faster than a CTR, M3, Evo, and Scoobies, but not too sure about on twisty wet road though

Only has room for one, ie itself. Should be able whip a Hippo through the twisties even though the hippo has greater pulling power.

Ha ha you have no idea You proberly havent even seen one let alone drive one so how would you know.

Actually you might like to ask some of the Scoob owners who I used to go on SIDC track days with, they may tell you a different story, many of them good friends who own Scoobs who don't have there head up there oriface

Oh and Im not one for racing on the roads, I leave that for the muppets, I prefer to drive at speed in safety with other like minded individuals around tracks & airfield.

I would offer to take you out for a drive, Im sure you would be pleasantly surprised but unfortunatly I sold it a year ago.

I can vouch for Matts old 1.6 Civic. A truly fantastic car that did indeed kick Scooby *** on UK tracks and at the Nurburgring. It was certainly very impressive, and most people that rode in it couldn't believe that it was "only" a 1.6. Ace car!

New CTR's are very nice if ragging the backside out of a car is your thing. I've spanked one in a straight line in my 330d, but then if you're not in the right gear in a Civic, you're nowhere. I've also outdragged an ITR in my old 330d on the Autobahn. Both these examples really mean nothing in either case, as we're comparing with an M3.

It's extremely unlikely that a CTR would kill an E46 M3. Certainly wouldn't happen unless the M3 is running in and restricted to 4k rpm etc etc. If anyone with a CTR thinks their car can open up a can of whoopass on an M3, a scientific meeting can be arranged!
